Bought a couple of games recently. Try to keep up with older games for the xbox 360 before i start to invest in the newest ones.

The Darkness (finished it already, great game, really enjoyed it)

Assassins Creed (got bored after the first level will try to get into it again later)

Viking - Battle of Asgard (love this game. can't understand the low critic scores. reviewers are full of shit these days)

Rez HD (only had time to play the first couple of levels. expected something more interesting. the gamplay is very trivial)

    PES 2008 (not played yet)

    Geometry Wars (not played yet)

That's fucking insane. What i don't get is: If people are so poor that they kill someone over a 100$ saving on a shitty ass chinese HD Ready TV at 5am shouldn't they be more bothered about important things? Getting food on the table or a shelter at night for example?

  • Editor tools what to learn next?

They are both similar but Hammer to Radiant is like Wordpad to Microsoft Word. You can do similar things but Radiant is way more advanced and versatile. But of course also harder to learn.

But it's not about fancy custom maps. He want's a better chance on the job market! I would learn the cutting edge technology rather then something that is kinda outdated from a technical and work flow perspective.

I would go with Sandbox if you want to widen your horizon to something that is modern and not based on bsp trees. It should also be easy to pick up. I checked it out and its very similar to what i use at work (Diesel), which i had no problem at all to learn.

Radiant and Hammer belong in the same category as Unreal Editor imo, you would learn a new tool but no new method for level design. It sure would make sense to learn one of these tho if you want to apply at a company that uses them!

Olympus is a good less expensive alternative to Canon. You don't need the newest models if your budget is limited. Buy a used camera that is a couple of years old. The picture quality would still be superior to the newest compact cameras.

He had a talent to create good looking "scenes" for his portfolio. I guess all mods who hired him fell for that. You can't tell from screenshots that nothing else is behind that. You will only find out later when you never get anything playable from the guy.

fmpone was a mod hopper. don't think he ever finished anything anywhere. i remember the map he made for Insurgency was only a single room of a mosque made of 8000 or so brushes

I don't exactly remember this. Just too many things happend during my years on the team. But "political movements" inside the mod used to happen here and there, thats true. If you have a mod team without a strong leader this can be the downfall for the project in the worst case. But Jeremy never was a fan of too much democracy so these things usualy got dealed with even if some people had to leave the mod in anger. In the end it was necessary in order to bring the mod to success.

Thanks for the link barrakid. That was a interesting read. We faced similar problems during the development of Insurgency. At one point (summer 2006) Insurgency was very close to share the same destiny with Nightfall. At this time we lost our domain, ftp and forums, our leader was busy with real life, development was slow, the build of the game was unplayable for months etc. Our luck was that many members worked on at least one released mod before so we had the experience on board to sort things out. But it was very close.

Tanks are made of metal. They can get super cold if the heater isn't running. You can however sleep behind the turret above the engine. If the tank was in use during the day the engine will still be warm during the whole night even in the winter. No kidding i sleeped there for several winter nights (without a tent).

As for tent, I'd rather buy a proper sleepingbag, one that is light, water resistant and warm.

So true. A proper sleeping bag is much more important then a tent. Actualy you don't need a tent at all in the wilderness. But a good sleeping bag might actualy save your life in a cold winter night.
