I know that this game doesn't look like something to be proud of but i actualy am. All the levels, gameplay, cutscenes aswell as large parts of the assets and sounds were created within only 3 months due to heavy delays at the end of last year and only 3 weeks of them were crunch. The game doesn't let Grin shine as a developer of quality software but if you know the backstory then it tells a lot about the fantastic team of artists and designers in Stockholm/Gothenburg and the amazing capabilities of the Diesel Engine in terms of workflow and speed. I can't think of any other engine where pulling such a stunt would have been possible.

I really hope tho that Grin learned its lesson and stays away from such movie games. They are quite harmfull for the reputation and don't make sense financially imo. Grin should just stick with high quality stuff like the Bionic Commandos and then things will get better again in the future.

Also if you are still undecided if you want to spent your money on the game this review should help your decission:

What Peris said. Its purely based on when you got hired. We were ten level designers in Stockholm and they fired the last two who got hired. Same in the other departements. But i don't know whats more depressing losing your job or stay in a company that fired so many of your friends and lost some of the best people. It's one of the most sad things that i have witnessed in my life because the people at Grin were really close together. I think everybody cryed at least a little yesterday.

Awesome, I love the lighting and the little details like the barbeque grill!

The grill took him 2 months of full time work. It's the best grill ever!

I think they gonna have a hard time to justify the hype. Game looked great before this. It was their whole selling point. But now they have clearly stepped a gear down. Not really surprising. The PS3 just isn't powerfull enough to render a game in photorealistic manner.

In nearly 2 years in sweden i have only met two natives who couldn't speak fluent english. Hell even the drunk bums can tell you in perfect english how they traveled the Route 66 in the 1970's. I think the swedes even speak better english then the english because they don't have all the crazy accents that are so hard to understand.

I would have nothing against more american colleagues. It would be quite unfair tho if the american job market stays as closed as it is for eu citizens. I never understood how the hurdles can be so high for economies that are so closely tied together and the citizens share a similar level of prosperity anyway.

Guess that's the first time someone posts the release of a racetrack on mapcore

If you have rFactor and want to check it out here is the profile:

Quite the special week for me. Three big releases of stuff that i have worked on (Bionic Commando, Terminator: Salvation and this).

Took me about 5 weeks to build the track and to create the content. Bob's Track Builder is quite the powerful tool and a lot of fun to work with.

I really have a feeling that this might be my new hobby because i can't be bothered anymore to do traditional level design in my freetime since i do it for a living. But this is different enough to keep me motivated even after work.

Yes but it doesn't matter because you cant see it when everything is in motion. It's also cheaper performance wise. And then ther's the problem that from the cockpit everything looks a lot smaller then what it actualy is due to the fov and speed. It's way worse then in most fps games.

Some pics from my racetrack for rFactor. Will release it this week hopefully.

Thers not a whole lot of shadow in it because i decided against it. It hurts performance quite badly in this old engine and doesn't add so much anyways. It's more important that people can race with constant 60 fps.

Thief 1 + 2 are in my top 10 of best games ever.

Thief 3 still was ok but nowhere near as good as 1 and 2 because it didnt added a lot of new stuff to the series and the tiny levels were a step back actualy. The open worldness was a good idea in theory but did nothing for me. Infact the loading between the small sections did go on my nerves.
