Graffiti art can be nice sometimes but most of the times i don't agree with it. It's either to make yourself a name which is completely fucking retarded because you are still anonymous except to your best friends or its because "this place is so dull and depressive, lets make it more colorfull". Thats even more retarded because with that shit you start to make your area actualy look like a ghetto and _then_ the people get even more depressive. Most places that we call "ghetto" in the western world would still look more or less acceptable if it they were not vandalized by the inhabitants. And graffiti is a very big part of that problem.

The map looks very flat. Give that church a higher tower, add pillars to the tomb and add a second floor for more verticality.

    Like this:

    [Blocked Image: http://www.the-nextlevel.com/reviews/xbox/thief-deadly-shadows/thief-deadly-shadows-b.jpg]

You also need a proper entrance gate/door for the tomb. What you have now doesn't look convincing.

The lighting needs more contrast, especialy in the tomb. Some dark corners where zombies or whatever could hide. It also looks like there are no shadows down there.

It was indeed a pain in the ass to get the game running. Had to install a couple of patches (which i had to search for on the internet) before it even would start. Then i had to look up on forums how to get Windows Live installed and running. The windows live website itself was offline lol. All in all took me about 30 minutes before i could play the first level _after the initial installation was done_. Reminded me why i prefer playing on console so much these days.

The editor runs fine as far as i can tell, although it feels like a penalisation to go from Diesel editor to learn Unreal editor. I don't like the general clumsiness, the unusual navigation and bad use of screen space (no fun with one screen only). But if i find enough time to wrap my head around it it should help me to improove my situation on job search in the future.

Started to check out Unreal editor a couple of days ago with UT3. But i'm more interested in the singleplayer side of things so i got this one today.

The game sure looks great. I'm just disappointed that they kept the silly dna backstory. I would feel much more immersed in a game like this without it.

This was quite one-sided. I don't think its a good idea to let prepubescent kids play first person shooters or other violent games. Honestly i couldn't care less if violent games are strictly forbidden for kids. What always pisses me off is when politicians want to censor or forbid it for adults.

Since both the games i've worked on pretty much bombed and i don't think many here have bought or played them i wanted to show you guys some gameplay vids at least.

First two vids are a walktrough of Terminator Salvation - Mission 6. It's the level that i was assigned to from the beginning to the end. I did most of that map in regard of level design except for the very first blocked out layout and the larger part of the gameplay scripting:

Next videos show Bionic Commando - Port Anderson 3. I did most of this map from layout to art passes to scripting. Only insta worked on it for a short while too.

Next video shows Bionic Commando - mp_highway. The whole destroyed highway cross theme was my idea. So i did most of this map from layout to art passes. I wasn't responsible for balancing tho:

The last video shows Bionic Commando - mp_island. Probably the least spectacular map in this post. It's worth mentioning tho that i came up with the idea to have an mp map on a island formed by fissures inside the destroyed city, hence the name mp_island. The idea behind that was to avoid the playable area being bordered by huge walls of buildings or radiation (buildings would take away the sunlight and radiation is expensive to render). The concept proved so succesfull that in the end most BC mp maps followed this scheme.

Besides these maps i've worked on a lot of other maps but the ones in this post are the ones that i had the most influence on.

Thats good news for the non french speaking people! 800 people too. They will need a lot of level designers. Might seriously consider this if i don't get lucky in europe on my job search.

So who are the level designers behind the maps? Any mapcorians?

I checked out all the maps. They are all nice but some are outstanding. I love how "alive" and detailed the skyline map is for example.

I got it for a cheap price. It's not that interesting/inspirational for someone who already works in the field since most games in the book are kinda outdated already. But it's full of pictures and theory, gives a good overview of state of the art level design/env art from the early to mid 2000's. I expect it to be quite hilarious to look into it in 10-20 years.
