For job safety the games industry unfortunately is a bad place.
Also try to not take too much stuff with you when you go abroad. Companies will pay relocation for you when they hire you but when you're out of job you pay for all the bills of moving back. With furniture and stuff this can get very expensive.
Moving to Sweden is no big hurdle for EU citizens bureaucracy wise. Biggest problem there is to find a place to live because most houses and appartements are not for rent. And the ones who are are mostly in the rather shabby areas on the outskirts. It can also take years to get something for rent.
You can buy something which is a certain risk because you don't know for how long you are in the country. If the house prices fall this could bite you in the ass when you have to leave.
What i did was to rent an appartement second hand from someone who studied somewhere else. Catch is: it was more expensive, but good thing was that all furniture, TV, Internet etc. was already there. The company helped me to find this place.
Culturally living in Sweden is not a big shock. Most things are similar to Germany. Some things work a bit better (taxes and banking for example), some work a bit worse (health system).

....nothing. Basically this was $2,000,000.00 that could've been spent on AIDS or Cancer research. Instead it was spent on letting some sick twisted f*** playing out his gross fantasy out on the screen. I'm not a better person for having seen it, I didn't learn anything, I feel gross. Good thing I got to see a bootlegged copy of it but if you pay to see it...well you've wasted your money. This just proves that the human race, as a species is pretty much doomed if this is where our imagination takes us. I'm not new to this type of movie. I've seen Audition, House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects, Saw, Hostel, Antichrist and this makes all of them look like Citizen Kane.

It's not extreme, it's reality. I quit my job almost 2 years ago partly because of this. And quite frankly I'm scared to consider another company just because of these politics (which is why after 2 years I'm still unemployed). Games are being made by a small group of people who have to work twice or even triple as hard to get half of what they imagined ingame because of the friction caused by other people slowing down the development (not just management). You end up with a lot of overtime which you don't get paid for and burned out to the bone (this is what you get for caring about the stuff you actually work on).
It really saddens me to read that a talented guy like you is discouraged by his experiences. I can completely understand tho. I would utterly HATE to live and work under such circumstances. But you know its not everywhere like that. I lived and worked only like 1 km away from you and my positive experiences far outweight the negative ones, tho to be frank Grin had some of its own shenanigans during the last half year or so.
I hope you find work somewhere where you make better experiences, maybe through people you know and thrust.

I haven't witnessed something as extreme personaly yet. Seems more a problem for studios who are owned by a big corporate entity.
I don't agree with him that artists and coders are everything it takes to make a game nowadays. Producers are important to stay within budget and for paper work and such. But i'm not sure that's the kind of management he means. I think some companys have actual managers for their creative staff who just sit there and overlook work like slave holders. This indeed sounds like a very silly and counter productive thing.
War is the easiest and most boring way to win Civ imo. I found cultural or scientific win a real challenge on king difficulty. If you don't get in trouble with your neighbors who will force you to focus on military then there is at least one other civilization somewhere else that stays ahead of you due to aggressive conquering tactic.
Is this your first civ game? It's been like that since civ 1. The tile symbols are wysiwyg. And why would you assume that a mine or whatever produces food?
What was this demonstration about? My dutch is not as good as it used to be.
