Here is a Review:
Watch the Trailer! (NSFW in America)

Quote from ShaDoWI took a look at an old "teaser" from the film, like the game the movie feels very atmospheric, the scenery seem well done. But most of the teaser was the three men riding a small cart on a railway, just filming their heads looking around for 5 minutes. Not the kind of movie most of us are used to these days, but its an old movie and I'm quite anxious to check it out.
This one? Pretty much captures the atmosphere and style of the whole movie.
Listen to the music. Its fucking awesome for a movie from 1979!
I dont find it disturbing. Its hilarious.
I watched this interesting soviet russian movie from 1979 today. There are definately similaritys. The zone in the movie is caused by a meteor or ufo. There is a stalker who guides a professor and a writer into the zone. Their target is to reach a room deep inside the zone where their biggest wish comes true.
In the movie the zone is a beautiful but very weird place. There is lots of nature but the stalker cant stop to warn the others about the dangers. To find what could be described as anomalies in their way they throw metal nuts on a bandage.

Opposite to the game there is as good as no action in the movie. Its a slow paced, surrealistic "art" movie with lots of philosophical discussions between the characters. For its age the sound design and soundtrack is awesome.
Definately worth watching but dont expect hollywood movie. Its more like going in a real theatre watching some avant garde piece.

even the yellow sky is in the movie
haha yes Ultima Underworld was scary as shit at its time. Don't think due to gfx. It was just that we gamers were used to use a lot more of our own imagination to get immersed by the games.
Its interesting to see how less has changed in RPG games since then. In the dungeons Oblivion is basicaly the same as Ultima Underworld 15 years ago (except better gfx and sound).
Interesting find. ![]()
Hey lets collect some gameplay videos of old games that you enjoyed back in the days. As a rule for the thread i would say everything older then year 2000 is appreciated.
Ultima Underworld (1992, PC)
Descent (1995, PC)
Turrican 2 (Amiga)
Lionheart (1993, Amiga)
Microprose Formula One Grand Prix (1991, Amiga/PC/Atari ST)
There is a mod for better textures and models btw.
Someone in another forum had the idea that it could not just be New York (Liberty City). Like in San Andreas it could be a few more citys with countryside between them (Chicago, Detroit, Washington or Boston for example). Sounds logic to me.
more like albanian...
I took a first look into modding today. Thought it would be nice to create smoother alpha maps for all the foliage textures since all of them are saved in DXT1 with only 1bit for the alphas. But here is the problem. The engine seems to override all 8 bit alphas no matter what i try. ![]()
Looking deeper in the Stalker textures it seems the whole games uses only 1bit for alphas which is a bit lame. I hope its not hardcoded and someone finds a solution for this problem.
Quote from buddy the designerhere http://minifiles.ag.ru/software/419/STA ... packer.zipShame You can't play the game anymore after the ending
Link doesnt work ![]()
Anyone know where to find the unpack tool for the db files? someone must have posted it on the gsc forums but the forums are down.
System Shock and Marathon both were released in 1994 so i dont think one game influenced the other.
If there is a influence then probably movies like 2001: Space Odyssey and the Alien films.
We are at mapcore here so i have to say one thing: Pripyat = best map ever!
Quote from duxAnd another thing, I don't understand peoples claims in saying stalker looks bad? Stalker looks worse than hl2?
Noticed that too. They probably play with static lighting and low settings on shit machines. Only things that look not awesome are the first person models (weapons and hands), some of the monsters in close up and the other stalker models. But thats probably something the community will fix earlier or later.
