How does it add a new level of gameplay to the game? Calling it a "bit linear" is a real understatement, and above and beyond that, claiming all maps are linear is just ludicrous. In answer to your question, no, they aren't

The map does look great, but if it wins then there will be a lot of pissed off people. In their last contest Valve had the good sense to pick something that is playable (rapidcore) as the winner, so hopefully they will do the same again.

Finally got a hold of it today and played it for quite a few hours. I really like the mix of gameplay styles it has, and it pulls off some adventure elements typically done badly (eg. stealth) in novel and successful ways. Definately well worth getting a hold of!

I've been trying to get my hands on BG&E for months now, but every time I got look for it either online or in the shops, its outta stock Gonna have another try tomorrow, I've heard too many good things about it to let it slip by me.

Wow, looks really fucking nice! I hope for your sake it gets there on time, as while I can't comment on the playability, on looks its certainly in with a chance. Best of luck

Oh, and sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but remember that you have to send off a signed entry form as well You could always fax it to somebody if they are willing to send on your level though I guess.

Its all a bit grey, and the lighting really doesn't match up to the fixtures. Pretty nice brushwork though, and as said, quite nicely textured.

I'm not entering any other map, if that is what you are asking. I currently don't have any pressing plans for other levels as I've just come back to Uni, though I'll be making something for the AG2 mod when I get some time.

5000 dollars would be nice, but there was no way I could get it into winning (or placing) shape by this morning, which was the latest I could have sent it. I'll continue to work on it and release it at some point however.

I think there is a point entity with a name that suggested it deforms displacement surfaces somehow. I haven't looked at it at all, but you might wanna have a little search through the point entities for it and see if it helps you at all.

If you are taking screenshots and want to have a clear screen, you don't need to do so in HL2SP. Just use "cl_drawhud 0", "crosshair 0", and "r_drawviewmodel 0" with cheats enabled ("sv_cheats 1").

Argh I give up Still got about 20% of the map left to build, let alone detailing those areas, and polishing and optimising the whole thing. I'll release this in a few weeks probably. Best of luck to all the other entrants

I don't think you will be using more than 1 Bank Of China building in any given scene though I guess if you were to be using something this low poly at all however, then 8 polys might be worth saving at the expense of such a tiny detail loss.

I really need to get around to doing some modelling at some point. I once made a crappy knife, but it was hardly something worth posting

Gonna be really tight to finish this, really ought to be sending it tomorrow morning at the latest, and I'd say I have 70% of the LAYOUT complete, let alone detailing, optimisation, and weapon placement. Will I get sleep tonight? Doubtful!

I might be forced to do the same Ferret, but unfortunately most of what I have has been rushed over the past couple of days and I don't think its up to a standard worthy of placing Best of luck with your entry, I take it you are using rebar?

I bitched at them on the VERC forums about making the same mistake with soundscapes as they made with materials.txt in HL1, but they didn't seem to pay any attention. I just think they shoulda made the game search for soundscapes in .txt or something - doesn't sound too tricky a job to me.

You get 80-90 people hanging in IRC?! On the #snarkpit channel we get 20 if we are lucky, despite having around 2000 members on the website. Insanity...or something else to that effect.

You can change the mouse between mouse mode and pen mode - only in pen mode is it relative to the location on the tablet.

I think its something to do with the alignment of the texture on the face you are placing the overlay, or at least thats how it used to be with decals.

No, I read the interview, then the replies, and then posted. I therefore didn't realise it was a fake while reading the interview, which I would have done had I read the replies first.

I read the interview before reading these replies and as such believed it to be true. I was left quite speechless - not only is it overly patriotic and for the most part full of shit (the PSP shaped like a giant penis...ummm, ok), but in many ways it is self-contradictory and big headed. Perhaps I'm just biased against cocky people, but the whole thing left me with a feeling of dislike for the man. The main quote would have been a ballsy move and, regardless of what it was used for, demanding or respect for being so unorthodox, but as its a parody I guess its not really worth the imaginary paper its written on.
