I'm a 360 man just now. Love the Xbox controller and the new 360 ones are looking to be awesome updates on them. Wireless 4 teh win - all my current ones are screwed due to the wires. New Live changes sound to be pretty nice, and with PGR3, DOA4, Gears of War, Ninety Nine Nights, NFS: Most Wanted, Losty Oddysee, a new game from the CoR: Escape from Butcher Bay developer and more, it seems to have the games to appeal to me. If it turns out to be fully backwards compatible then I'll be a very happy man since me Xbox is pretty dead (damn thompson drives!), but even if its only partial its still a reasonable plus point.

PS3 has some incredible looking games but most are sequels to games I never seem bo buy anyway. MGS4 huh? The third looked great and is sat in my flat, but its not mine and I never even got tempted to play it. DMC4? The third is sat in my flat, but its not mine and when my mate was playing it looked like a poor man's Ninja Gaiden. Killzone 2 and MotorStorm look absoutely jaw droppingly gorgeous, but are they even real? I doubt it.

Nobody said it was ONLY for Xbox 360 - it will almost certainly be for both it and the PC.

You can run HL2 on highest DX8 settings on a ti4200 (I have done), but the performance hit is too significant to be worth the visual increase for the most part. For single player I think I used medium model detail, max texture detail, 2xAA, 2xAF, high shadow detail, high shader detail, simple water reflections. Things look pretty funky and ran at acceptable levels. For DM I drop these settings by a bit (low shader detail, low shadow detail, medium texture detail) to get smoother FPS, but things still look nice enough. This was with a better CPU ([email protected]) and more RAM (1Gb) however, so you might not fare quite as well.

PS3 looks a bit retro to me. The overall shape with the system curving away from you is a bit old school looking (perhaps not just in the console sense, but including things like VCR's), and the indent for the DVD tray is kinda fugly. Not to mention that going by the dimensions I've seen, this thing is bulkier than the original xbox! Controller looks kinda laughable as well, though these things often aren't as bad as they look once you get your hands on them so we'll have to wait and...feel, I guess.

Of course its whats inside that really counts and they certainly make up for any shortcomings in the case with their power. They really have outdone MS on this front which is probably quite an upset for them. I found it quite funny during the Xbox 360 presentation, not even hours after the PS3 announcements, one of the spokespeople said the 360 would be the "most powerful next generation system" even though this had just been shown not to be the case Perhaps he meant in ways other than raw power though, so maybe it wasn't such a hiccup.

First impressions were good, but they faded too quickly. As Defrag said, it just got painfully repetitive after a short time. For all the bad things people say about HL2's vehicle sections, the break up the gameplay and give you a bit of time with something new. Doom 3 was just endlessly getting attacked from enemies...in the dark. Atmospherically it was pretty cool (particularly playing the dark with a pair of surround sound headphones), but plain and simple, I stopped playing and uninstalled because I got bored.

As mike said, using so many textures for a single mesh is hugely inefficient. You really wanna try and keep it to a single texture per mesh, as this way the graphics card can cruise through all those triangles in a single batch as opposed to stopping and starting at each mesh sub section because it needs to switch materials.

Break up that top line with something perhaps - chimney's, aerials, etc... Looks pretty convincing as a set of block apartments though, keep it up

Bricks looks plenty detailed mate, at least judging by the shots. How many textures, and what sizes, are you using?

The intro section is really well done, but, as Mikezilla said, that is one hell of a poor mario. Looks like some unholy combination of him and Luigi, and animated by an untalented 7 year old! The human model used when demonstrating the headset also looked pretty unnatural when he moved, not up to the standards I'd expect from Nintendo. The console itself - the first full shot of it I thought it was a bloody toaster That thought was backed up when they put a DVD in one of the two slots, and in "only 30 secs" it's....well, what exactly? Cooked to a nice, golden brown?

Despite these shortcomings, I'm kinda inclined to say real. The presentation was just too professional quality for some fanboys to create. Nintendo seem to be throwing in the towel with gaming in its current form, and this is one hell of a way to make a change. I think if true its going to be a rough ride for them - cross platform titles appearing on the Nintendo Revolution would be even rarer than those on the Gamecube if its VR, and third party support at all would be a tough one to pull in, particularly past the novelty of the first few games. The themed skins also looked both impressive and convincing - thats nintendo mentality and quality there.

Ooooh, looks pretty sexy tequila, thanks for that Didn't realise there had been any news about it released either. Not sure I like the step backwards allowing the player to race in any car they have (forcing cars for challenges, or at least groups of cars, means you get to experience all the different styles without feeling your are debilitating yourself picking something that isn't your best). That said, I trust them to make good decisions. I've loved all the games since MSR, and while some changes made the series easier, its not like the games have ever ended up lacking challenge (screw getting all platinums, some of the golds were hard enough!).

Insta, you're thinking of Peter Molyneux (spelling?), but to be honest those aren't the sort of games I had in mind. Admittedly he has come up with some impressive gameplay ideas in the past, but generally not ones up my alley. I tend to prefer Japanese games, and despite this, Xbox is my console of choice I don't really mean strange or experimental gameplay either, just games with less standard visuals and presentation. JSR/JSRF both look amazing and have awesome soundtracks, Otogi has incredible flashy effects and beautiful sound effects, Wind Waker took cel-shading to a whole new level, Okami is styled after Japanese drawings, Auto Modellista kinda sucked but was for once a driving game that didn't strive to look real, etc... I like a bit of style I guess. Give me something stylish

Yeah thats what I was thinking insta. Looks kinda like there might be a res evil 4 style aiming system or something, which I'd prefer to another FPS to be honest.

Personally I'm hoping for something a little more creative and zany from the Xbox 360 launch titles. Jet Set Radio Future was the main reason I bought an Xbox (I bought it with that, Project Gotham Racing, and Halo - that was one hell of a first set of games!), but nothing from the list of 360 games I've seen jumps out like that did. Its early days though, and very few of the titles announced have screenshots or even much info, so I guess I'll just have to bide my time.
