Rockstar North eh? My flatmate worked there last summer as a tester on San Andreas. They will probably be one of the first places I apply to once I'm finished with this uni malarky - Scotland ain't so bad for games development ![]()

He speaks the truth! This must be that maxwell dude from the egir forums

LOL, that is pretty damn stingy for a millionaire actress, but then at least she appears to be down to earth enough to actually approach a homeless person (I don't believe I've ever come across a picture of a celeb doing that before). As for calling her an ugly troll - that man needs to find himself a god damn penis.

Nah, not in HL or HL2 I'm afraid. It would probably be best to write shaders to do this for you, but CJ made up the technique for HL1 a good while back and it looks like he is using a similar one here. Here is his original tutorial on how to do it, though he said recently that he updated his technique a little...

Nicely put together, and obviously the content is good too. Music fits quite well - nothing obtrusive but stops it from being too lifeless. I'd go for something a little more upbeat personally, but I think the song you've chosen suits your portfolio and gives off the right atmosphere.
-
Remember Silver, that CJ's map is a mix of WoW and Jet Set/Grind Radio

Grin, this something you are thinking of entering into the Snarkpit's surreal map contest?

Mino, you've no taste

I watched "Drop Dead Gorgeous" on TV last night. It had Kirsten Dunst in it, and was about beauty pagent type stuff. I like Kirsten Dunst

Half-Life 2 and Far Cry weren't horror games though - if you wanna put it in the running for best done horror game, it should really be competing with the likes of the Project Zero / Fatal Frame, Forbidden Siren / Siren, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Clocktower, etc... I'll agree it was probably the most tense and atmospheric FPS I've come across, but it never lived up to the creepiness of Project Zero, that damn bunny in Silent Hill 4, or the intensity of being chased around by a giant, retarded freak in Haunting Ground / Demento.

I think the dark truths shots look fine personally, and as you said there isn't really enough content there without them. The second DT shot in particular is pretty nice (quite a nice busy scene, with lots of visual interest and good lighting), but the first is still up to snuff if you ask me. The last forsaken shot is the one I'd say is the weakest of the bunch - all it really shows is some triangle terrain, and you've demonstrated that you are more than capable at doing that in the other ones.
As klein said, it would really be in your favour to at the very least get a bit of work done in another editor or another discipline. You've said you its not something that is going to be particularly challenging for you, but SAYING you can adapt and learn other packages isn't going to do you much good in interviews if you can't PROVE it. Spend a week learning a new editor, or doing a bit of modelling. Your HL1 mapping skills don't need any more honing.

Unless Naigel also goes by the name of either Adam Hawkins (1st place by judges) or Campaignjunkie (1st place by votes), then no, he didn't win. All the entries to last year's comp are listed on the second link I posted.

You really capture the combine style in the updated combine base. Huge improvement there, and good work elsewhere too.
-
Yay he's back! Good to see you haven't forsaken us completely man. Get your ass back to the snarkpit - this year's comp has just started, and I've a feeling it could be your year
Love the lighting in the infested sections of ns_forsaken - its what xen should have looked like. -
Welcome, and don't feel you need to apologise - it was Maxwell's wrong, not your website's

I definately agree on point 1, its becoming crazy how many servers feel the need to have addtional sounds. It was the same with CS however. In addition there seem to be quite a few servers running crazy server side mods, like the warcraft theme where you have to choose a race, magic, and what have you. Shit like that needs to be clearly labelled.
As for point 2, I've never really had an issue with it. I tend to find bots are pretty obviously marked, and if not then the ping is quite a giveaway.
Point 3 is true for public servers filled with idiots, but I don't agree its a universally bad thing.

If there is only one outdoor area then they can use a light_environment, or if all the people working on outdoor areas can agree on the settings then one could be used. If not then people will need to rely on using workarounds like spotlights.

I think people would download it even if it neared 100mb - there simply isn't any custom HL2 content out there, and people will download any if it is good quality (and it might be somewhat similar for UT, I couldn't say).
Either way, I'm grabbing them. Good job, I'll let you know if I make use of them. The other guys on the AG2 team have been looking for custom textures to help get away from the realism that the HL2 set lends itself to, so I reckon they will love you for this

Oooh he's from Scotland. I'd threaten to go beat him up, but more specifically, he's from glasgow
What a piece of shit though, no respect for work thieves. If your short of skill, practice, if your short of inspiration, copy and tweak, but simply stealing the acclaim for something you played no hand in creating is low.Now the question that matters - do we allow the authors of the stolen maps to jump on this guy, or do we pile on straight away?
-
The angle of the screenshot makes it a cool picture, but the scene itself is really kinda empty. Nice composition, but when running around and viewing it properly, there just isn't enough to it.

Was wondering what was going on with this map. Get it sorted insta
