Grab milkshape and use it to get the model into the correct format for compiling.

Likewise I enjoyed the film but its not a classic. Its an entertaining diversion, but it doesn't leave much of a lasting impression. Too many occasions in which Mr.Cruise NEARLY lost his life, and every time there was some sort of line or barrier, him and his family were ALWAYS at the front. It was too much "him him him" - why did it have to be him he spotted the birds resting on the tripod, or him that used the grenades to destroy one? Why did it have to be him and his family alone that made it into Tim Robbin's basement, or had a working car? How everything around the plane wreck was destroyed...except their working car? Just a bit too contrived, conincidental, and overall too damn lucky for the family.

So yeah, enjoyable, but I think people are trying to turn it into something it isn't by making it out to be some sort of classic.

    Quote from Spellbinder

we let lots of Muslims stay in our country with same rigths and stuff as the "native" Swedes. They even builds synagogs here and there in this country. or Moscoe's or whatever they are called in English.

Errrr, that happens in most countries. The UK has a huge muslim community and there are many religious centres for them in every city. By no means does supporting the muslim community make you "safe" from terrorism, though I do agree that not supporting the Afghan/Iraq wars probably helps.

    Quote from Spellbinder

Also i would'nt be one bit suprised if it turns out that Bush and Blair is behind it all just to pump up the hostility towards the Muslim community

    Thats just crazy talk.

Might as well add in the EA batch - while they might have a bad rep, they are still a major employer in the games industry, and I doubt many people would particularly complain if it was through them that they got their foot in the door.

Yeah, and I totally see how that gives it soul I did play demos of the Spyro games and they didn't seem particularly bad or anything, but I wouldn't even have imagined somebody describing them as one of the few 32bit games that had a "soul"

First time I've ever heard the Spyro games described like that. What exactly gave the spyro games more soul than other 32-bit+ generation games?

The power surge explanation came after the first two explosions, but after another one in the subway, and the bus exploded, it was pretty clear it wasn't that. All 4 explosions occured in a fairly short time space, and I think it wasn't until after all 4 had occured that Blair made his speech.

Mojo, the G8 isn't quite "in the town"; London isn't exactly close to Gleneagles, where the G8 is being held. An Al-Qaeda group have claimed responsiblity, and threatened that Denmark and Italy can expect similar "punishment" for their crusade on Iraq and Afghanistan. Its yet to be confirmed that it was actually that group, but they are the only ones so far to claim they did it.

Kosmo, I really don't see what is wrong with Tony Blair acknowledging the fact it was probably a terrorist attack - better to tell the people what actually happened than wrap it up in nice, soft, cuddly lies. There hasn't been any panic and chaos, at least not outside the immediate effects of the explosions. I think people like a proactive leader who actually takes their place at the forefront of such issues - not sitting by at his "afternoon tea party" and ignoring anything has happened.

Did the Quake 2 mod have anything to do with the original "Gloom" for the Amiga? It was basically just a Doom clone.

Given the number of explosions that happened, their timing and nature, I don't exactly think its out of line for Tony Blair to say "Its reasonably clear this was a terrorist attack". 5 underground stations were hit, and a packed bus - what the hell ELSE is going to have done it other than terrorists?!

Adding in game development studios is a great idea, though it might be better to make a new list rather than putting them on the same map as the mapcore members. If you are going to, then here are a few in Scotland...

    Visual Science, Dundee, Scotland

    Real Time Worlds, Dundee, Scotland

    Denki, Dundee, Scotland

    Rockstar North, Edinburgh, Scotland

    Outerlight, Edinburgh, Scotland

Edgies (previously "Creative Edge"), Edinburgh, Scotland

    DC Studios, Edinburgh, Scotland

    DC Studios, Glasgow, Scotland

Some of them are pretty tiny companies (eg. Outerlight made "The Ship" mod for HL as a demo of their game), but all are proper developers in that they are run from offices and pay their staff I think only Visual Science, Real Time Worlds, and Rockstar North are the ones most people are likely to have heard of or played games by. VIS (one of the biggest game developers in Scotland, again Dundee based) recently went bust

There is a resource reload option, at least for textures. You can also use the "open source" button in the material browser to modify your custom VMT's, which is kinda handy.

Heard about this from Duncan "Finger" Moore, who started working for Insomniac about a year or so ago. He said it couldn't be more true and that its a wonderful place to work, particularly as his first industry job to get working on such a big series as Ratchet and Clank.

Just strikes me as odd, though I guess there isn't anything really "wrong" with it. Perhaps it would be wise to start up a general "recently played" thread where people can discuss any old games they are playing rather than starting up entire threads for a game most people have long since forgotten about?

I don't have it installed so can't check if its there, but its a reasonably famous little town so you never know. If not just add me in Edinburgh, which is my nearest city.

An engine doesn't have to remain stagnant - its perfectly possible (and common) for them to be changed heavily for other games. Check the Quake 3 engine, which went through loads of changes and was used in dozens of games to different effect. Or the Unreal or even Unreal 2 engine for that matter. Hell even the original HL engine (Goldsource as they now seem to be calling it?) began life as the Quake engine). Source is no different; Half-Life 2 is, by no means, the "best" it will ever necessarily be, and as skdr said, HDR is a clear example of that.

I also seem to recall somebody at Valve said they were interested in adding lighting previews into VHE in some interview, but I might be mistaken. I not quite sure how it would be handled given the way source does lighting, but I guess perhaps it would be done for only selected lights with a short (few second) generation period to calculate some example lightmaps.

Oh and Sin 2 - awesome. The first game was flawed but I loved the feel of the weapons and the hit reactions on the enemies. You always knew when you hit them and it gave a satisfying result. I bought it on release as the shop didn't have HL in yet, and while it hardly lived up to HL, it wasn't as bad as many make out. I'm pretty happy to see more being done over Steam as well, which so far I've had a pleasant experience with.

But this isn't cs_assault_source (which Valve are already making remember) - its cs_logistic_assault. If it just plays like Assault, then its no better than the cs_wannabe_assault_v2005k4's you mention. Too many attempts at accurate clones, its good if it takes a different approach IMO.

I can model Fritz, but I have no bloody idea what to model for this Even if I did model some things that fit the theme (flat coloured rocks, boats, logs, etc...), I don't know how they would look when placed in a world made entirely of hexagons

I'm going to play around and see how this approach works when using smaller hexagons - it should allow for more detail without breaking the hexagonal theme, but it might take away from the blocky charm it currently has.
