That second screenshot brings back nice memories of ICO and Vagrant Story, and for that I give you some mad mad props
Lovin' the floor design in the last shot too; the star shaped column bases rock.

I don't think dev's should be pissed that Epic are "holding back" technology for future engines - most people's current systems can't run UE3, let alone what they most likely have in store for UE4.

Just to put this into a little context by the way, it was his entry into the Snarkpit's surrealism competition - the point of the contest was to avoid any real world / sci-fi / fantasy settings - so I guess that goes some way to explaining why it doesn't particularly resemble anything

That is one stylish head
Looking forward to seeing what you do with the armour and things, as the body is definately bringing it down at the moment. -
TGA is the best format for them if you ask me - nice and easy to get them into any game. Then again, providing your example VMT's and VTF's would keep people unfamiliar with compiling HL2 textures happy, and the "tricky" part (the VMT's) won't exactly bump up the distro file size given they are just some simple txt files. Thanks for sharing these, I'm sure they will be very well used given that HL2's choice of cliff textures isn't particularly wide. Welcome to mapcore

It really is worth going over to firefox - there are next to no major changes and you can use it just like IE if you like, but as well as the security benefits it does have some useful functionality improvements too. No need to worry about losing your favourites or anything either, as those can be transferred from IE.
I recommend that on top of running your usual anti-virus/spyware cleaners, you grab a registry scanner like CCleaner, which can analyse registry entries and weed out anything that is either unnecessary or malicious. Its also a nice fast way of cleaning up temp files, unlike the disk cleanup built into XP that takes about 10 minutes to estimate how much space you'll save if you compress files...something I don't want to do.

Hehe don't worry about it D3, I did already know about it

I like how your warning about spoliers contains a spoiler

I'm at a games tech course in Scotland, but I wouldn't say its really worth doing. It is worth doing from the point of view of getting a degree that is wholly related to getting a job in the games industry, but you could learn more in your own time if you are dedicated and take the initiative. Maybe the one you are going to is different though. I've learnt a lot on my course that I wouldn't have otherwise (ie. all the programming), but I'd be a better level designer and modeller if I'd just continued to do it in my spare time. My spare time productivity in games design has been reduced hugely by uni, currently to pretty much nothing.

Wow, I'd never have thought I hear the word mongo described as "trendy"
I dig the model, but I'm not too keen on the feet. To me they just don't suit the style of the rest of the mech. Looking forward to seeing it skinned

I'm sure they have Jynx - multiplayer was a tacked on part of Doom 3 but they are fairly pushing it in Quake 4.
Video looked good, and is certainly very reminiscent of Q3. I was always more of a UT fan myself but its nice to have a change
The map looked pretty cool from a gameplay perspective, but architecturally it was rather bland. All the walls seemed flat with a texture planted on it. Admittedly it looked very smooth and streamlined to play - a very important thing in a fast DM map and it worked well in Q3 - but it wasn't exactly wow-ing visually. -
D3 is actually 75% of this forum's population. I have it on good authority...and by that I mean its completely made up

Spellbinder loves ALL the countries

I'd say avoid sticking to purely vertical or horizontal planes koko; go for a variety of off-axis planes instead and it will look far less uniform and more natural.
-
I'm sure the game will be an enjoyable continuation of HL2 style gameplay, but thats a really crap trailer. Far too short, and doesn't really show anything new or particularly interesting.
-
Its certainly the weak point in your computer. I wouldn't have thought having 256mb of video memory would be any benefit on a card like that really; even 6600gt's come with 128mb memory because the video memory isn't the limitation.
-
Congratulations man, whatever you decide to do

Not so much of a ban, considering its just a limit imposed on minors, but its still a sad step. Then again, you do hear of quite a lot of MMO related problems in the East; overly long playing times killing people, distracting people from their babies, murdering their "traitorous" friends, etc..., so I suppose its understandable that measures had to be taken. I guess its also got its benefits in that older players get to play without the whining kids ruining their experience

Thats really cool - what an interesting roof

I love it, great use of the textures and a really interesting design
