  • Hammer deleting visgroups

    • ReNo
    • October 11, 2005 at 1:22 PM

Recently I've found hammer to be deleting my visgroups when I close a map and reopen it. Anybody who uses visgroups extensively will realise how much effort can be put into making useful visgroups, so to have them all deleted every time you close the map is a massive problem. Any objects that were in a hidden visgroup show up in the "check for problems" list so I can reclaim them, but its another annoyance on top of having to rebuild all my visgroups each time. It DOES remember the auto visgroups, but thats not really much consolation.

Another problem related to visgroups is that when I mass select a set of brushes by using the "replace texture" tool (use the "do not replace textures (select brushes)" option), bringing up the object properties box to add them to a visgroup doesn't let me change visgroup properties at all. Combined with the first problem I mentioned, this means adding my clips and hints to unique visgroups each time I load the map involves going round and selecting each one individually - a long and freaking awkward process.

Does anybody else have these problems? I've searched at the snarkpit, VERC and of course google, but there seems to be no mention of them anywhere. Does hammer just not WANT me to be productive?!

Man, this is one demo that is drawing varied reactions! I might have to try it just to see which side of the fence I sit on

I've the same monitor too, was a bargain

I was back at my parent's house at the weekend, so I took a few pics...

    [Blocked Image: http://www.snarkpit.net/pits/reno/random/bedroom1.jpg]

One half of my rather empty bedroom.

    [Blocked Image: http://www.snarkpit.net/pits/reno/random/bedroom2.jpg]

And the other half. Normally I have my TV, consoles and PC in here which makes it rather more "homely"

    [Blocked Image: http://www.snarkpit.net/pits/reno/random/study.jpg]

Picture came out crap, but here's my parent's study. Yay for free beer

    [Blocked Image: http://www.snarkpit.net/pits/reno/random/view.jpg]

And the view from the study window, which I like. If only my house looked like my neighbour's!

    This be the kitchen, arrr.

Plenty of sequels are made by different teams, but that doesn't mean they will turn out bad. Panzer Dragoon Orta for instance - awesome game made by a different team to the original games. Or Quake 4 for that matter.

Previews of PDZ have sounded kinda promising, but the screens and trailers haven't exactly been impressive. I wasn't a big fan of the first one (though admittedly barely played it) so I don't hold out too much hope, but its emphasis on coop gets it some plus points in my book

The game is Tales of Symphonia. And while I might have a lot of consoles, I eat off a table made of boxes - it's a trade off

Man you're getting good at this modelling lark Ferret! Sure it needs work, but for one day I am most impressed. Tail section needs work and the blades do look a bit odd (not BAD, just not normal) but otherwise it looks pretty sound to me. I wish I had your penchant for actually DOING things - I'm just a lazy slob these days

I think all 3 of the next gen are looking great, but the 360 is the one I'm looking forward to the most. Live is a great online system, the way they have further developed the media integration with games (like plugging in USB mp3 players for game soundtracks or steaming from a PC) is awesome, the controller looks like an improvement on what was already an amazing design, and of course I'm a bit partial to many of the games I've always been more of a console gamer than PC gamer, so I've no qualms about the fact it is a console - thats a plus point in my book!

Why won't you buy it because its a console, by the way?

Maybe a picture of my disk will clarify why I like yours so much

    [Blocked Image: http://www.snarkpit.net/pits/reno/random/desk.jpg]

And the other half of my room...

    [Blocked Image: http://www.snarkpit.net/pits/reno/random/bedroom.jpg]

And finally the console room, complete with table sculpted from boxes...

I'd post more, but its even more depressingly untidy and unfurnished I was going to post pics once I'd actually gotten around to putting up posters and what have you, but as time goes on, the more and more it feels like its not worth it as I'm only here till may or something.

I think the "lighting sucks" version looks better actually It actually means the model has shadows. Obviously this is a problem in most situations though, like those plant models.

I'm personally against the idea of signing up to third party sites to use this one, but I'm not so bothered about it that it would stop me using the place or anything.

Post a screenshot of your settings too. Some of them are quite possibly designed for 512mb graphics cards, and might drag down performance on a 256mb card.

Played Anzio and Avalanche for quite a while each, and had a ball. Gameplay is pretty much exactly the same, but like CS:S, the new assests really breath new life into it. I also seemed to be a damn site better at this than the original DoD, which is nice

I proclaim Anzio to be one of the best looking source maps I've seen. Love the axis spawn to bits. Can't wait to see how the allied one looks!

Rhino isn't really designed for games modelling, so if thats what you are going for, I really suggest you move into another package. Easy to learn or not, there is little purpose in being wonderful with a tool nobody uses. Keep up the modelling though, pretty good efforts so far given you're using rhino.....*shudders*
