We just started one of these at the Snarkpit too, neat little tool I didn't expect them to let me put my actual home town in before so I put Edinburgh, but this time around I gave it a shot and they actually had it. Inconceivable!

There is a basic normal mapping tutorial for source engine games in particular just up at the snarkpit. Not sure if it will be any more useful to you, but might as well point it out...

Wouldn't the level cap be upped to 70 for everyone, without buying the addon pack? I know you can't offer all the new content to people who don't buy the pack, but surely something like that keeps things fair while the new content is enough incentive to buy the addon?

I haven't actually played the second one, but the Max Payne games are certainly some of the better examples of a storyline being done right.

Some games have absolutely fantabulous endings though, like Ico and Vagrant Story. To be honest, I tend to find that Japanese games have stronger endings than Western games, and as a bi-product of that, its console games rather than PC games that tend to recieve them. I can't really remember the last time I played a PC game and was particularly enthraled by the storyline, but it happens quite often on consoles.

The lack of shading in hammer 4.0 is a godsend when working on flatshaded maps though

I adored the wet cliff textures near the sea - looked spiffy. Commentary rocks too, hope that feature is used more often in the future, both by Valve and other companies. I don't really see how people can say "not worth the wait" - the time would have passed whether Lost Coast was coming or not. Unless you mean the download time, in which case your point might have some justification.

/by the way the wall looks great, but again ingame it's going to suffer from source's bad lighting system.

I agree - things like walls should really be built with world geometry or your missing out on lightmaps. I get that you want to keep the detail along the top of the wall, but I'm not sure the increased detail will be worth the worse lighting. How much subdivision do you have in the wall? If there are lots of vertices on the front face of the wall then vertex lighting could suffice I guess.

I'm not sure that would help actually. At every point on a displacement surface, the texture coordinates are kept from the initial position. So if you move some vertices on your surface around a lot, the texture becomes distorted. Not a lot you can do about that I don't think, without reworking your displacements.

Lighting is too white in my opinion. You seem to be going with blue glows, so I'd be inclined to try out a more blue tinge to the lighting. Maybe try having a (subtley) coloured ambient light as well, to provide a nice "base coat" of sorts?

You'd think there are enough websites out there that use popup windows (I'm not talking popup ad's here - INTENTIONAL popups clicked by the user) to justify NOT using FF in one window mode I actually didn't know such a mode existed to be honest, but I can certainly see why popups would get annoying in your scenario. Is there any real benefit to using this mode? Why not just open everything in tabs intentionally and if something has to use another window, so be it?

It's got pretty obvious seams due to the fact your tiles are oddly shaped yet all "fit" to the edges of the texture. You should maybe try having some run over an edge and in the other side?

Will look awesome with HDR me thinks, particularly that first shot The cheap water somewhat detracts from the scene there, but there is little to fault otherwise. I'm inclined to agree that the wrecked sections of walls look a little too clean and could use some dirtying up with overlays or something. All in all great job though, looking forward to some new DoD:S maps to play!

I think you should have the links open in the same window rather than a new one. If you do want to keep it as a popup, try that javascript code Kreigore gave to make it a bare window with only the content, and shape it so it only uses the amount of space necessary, a la snarkpit's screenshot stuff (click a thumbnail and you'll see)...

No Soul Calibur? Thats crazy talk! Soul Calibur is the best of the bunch in my opinion, while DOA is probably the most "wow" inducing. Rival Schools was also awesome, but I lent it to a friend years ago and have no idea where it is now

I've read a few reviews about Doom, ranging from utter crap to the reasonable (6/10 sorta thing).

Sa74n, you tried watching FFVII: Advent Children? It's not too great if you haven't played the game, but those who have seem to enjoy it.

People will complain regardless of the price. People all over the place were complaining when PGR2 on the Xbox got "premium downloadable content", and it was only £3 for a new city and 8 new cars for god's sake. It was the same over at the snarkpit (and I'm sure other places) with Ragdoll Kung Fu; despite it's low price point people were calling it a rip off. I imagine this will go for a similar price (about £10?), but perhaps since this is less of a novelty title people won't se it as a bad deal. Then again, at least Ragdoll Kung Fu didn't use HL2 resources

I don't imagine, with a commercial product, you can really just say something like "We're making this alright mod, not much major new content or anything, but it should be cool"
