    Umm, that news post was from January mate. When did Bioshock get announced? I've only known about it from sometime this year, so could it maybe have been a precursor to that getting announced?

    The Happiness of the Katakuris

    Crazy Japanese film by the god of crazy Japanese films - Takashi Miike. Front of the box says "Love. Music. Horror. Volcanos", and if that doesn't have you sold then you're probably not the sort who would enjoy the movie. Silly clay animation, family camaraderie, zombie dances, and probably a whole lot more that I've forgotten.

    The Warrior

    Fantastic Korean film. If you like your movies to have big fight scenes, impossible odds, self sacrifice, and a varied cast of characters, then this is for you. Think Crouching Tiger meets Seven Samurai and you're not too far off. One of my personal favourites.

    Taxi, Taxi 2 (and probably Taxi 3)

    Ignore what was, I assume, a shitty American remake - these French movies are great fun. Over the top driving silliness with quirky humour. "Unlikely couple" buddy movie in the same vein as Lethal Weapon or Rush Hour, and in many ways inferior to both of those series, but they have merit and some genuinely classic moments. Considering here in the UK it costs about £5 to get the first two movies in a double pack, they are well worth hunting down. Sadly the third film hasn't made it out here in the UK yet, but given that the trailer I saw appears to feature rollerbladers, maybe that is for the best

    Infernal Affairs

    The first part of a big budget Hong Kong crime trilogy pitting an undercover cop who has infiltrated the triads against a young triad who joined the police force. Stylish movie, great ending, and great characters. And lets face it, who doesn't love Tony Leung? Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt are starring in the American remake - something tells me you should catch the original instead!

    Brotherhood of the Wolf

    Stylish French action film about a monster terrorising the French countryside, and the two men sent to kill it. Cool fight scenes featuring lots of weapons from Soul Calibur - including Ivy's chain sword Been a while since I've watched this, but I'm gonna have to do it again soon me thinks.

    Casshern

    The first half of this movie is awesome, but it kinda drags as you get further into it. Almost entirely blue screened, there are some really neat visuals in this film, and it's style alone makes it worth checking out.

    But a beta isn't finished, so surely betas should be posted here in WIP?

    I quite like this, but there are some things that could be improved. First, those decals look horribly out of place. Its not that they are bad pictures or anything, they just don't sit well in the world and look completely unnatural. I'd lose them or do something to them to make them look less artificial - more wear and tear I guess. Second, the map looks too obviously tiered, particularly outside. Each "layer" of the buildings remains at a constant height all around these outdoor sections. The only outdoor shot that seems to break this is the one with the brick building - it could benefit from more variety like this. Third - well it isn't really my place to question your map's name, but its more than a little awkward sounding. Is it a common, or at least easily pronouncable word in German?

  • No more E3?

    Maybe it was a ridiculous media frenzy full of unjustified hype and bullshit, but I'm gonna be sad to see it go (in its current form). I remember sitting up with my flatmates, watching BBC learning zone while taking shifts to shout out up to the minute news from E3 - its geeky, its unnecessary, but it was fun to get a buzz from gaming news in that way. There are gonna be benefits if game news trickles out more consistently over the year as a result, but I quite like everything hitting at once (even if that is less true now than it was in the past). Ah well, change is inevitable I guess. Woulda liked to experience E3 once though

    Hehe, I love how tongue in cheek everything about this movie is Wish Midtown would get around to doing something other than claiming "Forget What You Know" is still their new album - that CD's been out 2 years now guys, we know its out for god's sake. Have they actually split? Is the lead singer focusing on this side project thing now?

    I've high hopes for Stranglehold - the trailer from E3 looked like great fun Beautifully destructible environments looked to be order of the day, at least in that bar in the trailer that they took straight from Hard Boiled.

    Collectors edition Steam account? Don't know what that is, but are you sure it allows you access to non-Valve games? I haven't heard anything about it before

    As for Outerlight's next game? Well even I don't know that yet I imagine it will be a while before anything is announced on that front - for now we are finishing up the retail version of The Ship, and we will be supporting it post release for a while with new features, levels, costumes, etc...

    Thanks for the congratulations Defrag, we were pretty happy with the review. In fact all the reviews so far have been positive, which has made us happy indeed! Will be interesting to see what the more established games media thinks about it as all our reviews so far have been from smaller places. Should be reviews in next months PC Gamer and PC Zone to coincide with the retail release, so we're looking forward to those.

    Oh and Consolevania fans rejoice - videoGaiden, their tiny little mainstream TV games show here in Scotland, is coming back for a second series. First series was just six 5 minute shows around midnight, but this series is six half-hour shows, and filmed in a studio! Madness. Hope such an "upgrade" doesn't ruin the style of the show, but its good to hear that the BBC are taking it a bit more seriously this time around.
