    Azumi

I don't think the film lives up to the thread's title of "awesome", but Azumi is an enjoyable movie nonetheless. Its about a group of assassins raised from childhood with one mission in mind - to kill the Japanese warlords and bring peace to the country. Azumi is the only female member of this group, and though she is the central character, she's not really particularly interesting. I found the movie interesting more due to the side characters, who aren't exactly well developed but are given enough screen time for you to warm to them and care about their fate. It comes across rather low budget at the beginning and seems to ramp up in quality as the movie progresses, ending in fairly big budget style with a massive fight involving hundreds of casualties across a whole town. Its a straightforward movie that probably thinks itself a lot deeper and more noteworthy than it actually is, but its a decent watch if you are into films about ninjas and the like The sequel, which I just watched last night, was much the same but ultimately a lesser film for me.

So what happened to that project? Did it get canned or something? I'd love a next gen killswitch, even if that slot is pretty much filled by GoW now.

You're right, some of the animations really do suck, but oddly, some of the others are really quite good. Walking slowly, for example, makes the character walk with a really cheesy swagger thats really well done, while others, such as the jumping animation, are just laughably poor. Bit of a mixed bag I guess. Anyway, I wouldn't ever claim this is the best looking game around or anything, but regardless, it doesn't look like ass.

Whats with all the negative nancies around here lately? Dennis - granted, the game is completely based upon the GTA series, but its hardly the only game to draw from others is it? Don't hate the game purely because it is derivative, as if you did, you'd have missed out on plenty of classics over the years. It does not look like ass, and given that you haven't actually played the game you aren't really in much of a position to claim that they do. I wish people would give things a chance before jumping on the hate wagon...

I enjoyed it. Seriously - make a big, fat asian guy with ginger cornrows and mangle his face up with the customising tools; you can't NOT like the game when your lead character looks like that yet is still trying to act like a bad ass Dunno if I'll be buying it as there are a fair few games I'm after for the 360 hitting soon (Dead Rising, N3, Test Drive Unlimited, Enchanted Arms), but it might just make the list.

I should probably buy a new desk some time - I bought this one for like £40 or something from Argos when I moved into my own flat during uni, and, well...it's hardly the most spacious of surfaces. Barely deep enough to hold my monitor and keyboard

NormySan, why did you find killswitch so bad? Granted, it wasn't a fabulous game or anything, but it had some really nicely done firefights in places I thought. My biggest disappointment with it was the length - I figured I was just getting into the game when suddenly the end credits started rolling If GoW plays similar to killswitch, but more intense and stylish, then I think I'll be fairly pleased with it

I adore Lost, such a great show. I agree that the first half of season 2 was a bit slow, but the last few episodes in the series more than made up for it. I also enjoyed Prison Break but wouldn't say it was quite up to Lost standards. Looking forward to seeing what they do with the second season - its gonna be pretty far removed from the first by the sounds of things!

Wow, those are pretty damn scathing comments. I've yet to get the demo, but from what I've seen of the game through trailers and screenshots, it looks a whole lot better than you seem to be making out. Now I'm feeling a little less sure about the game...

I wish Amped 3 had just continued in the direction Amped 2 was taking the series. I really was the best trick-oriented snowboarding game, thanks to a great control method and an awesome style system that rewarded smooth use of the analogue controls. Amped 3 just shat all over the great system Amped 2 had introduced - removing any sort of difficulty from the trick system by automating spins to increments (i.e. tap up and you will do a front flip, rather than prewinding before the jump and adding/removing momentum in different directions in the air). They also simplified the style system immensely, which made it feel a whole lot less satisfying to pull off those big slow spins and tweaked grabs. Damn them and trying to "make it more accessible" - SSX already does a great job of that, you shoulda stuck to being the hardcore option!

I've just been playing demos on my 360 lately really - Dead Rising (ace!), Saints Row (make a really fat ugly guy and the cut-scenes are utterly hilarious...oh and the game is a fun distraction too ), and Ninety Nine Nights (disappointing in all ways sadly, but still kinda fun and I'll still buy it) in particular. Just ordered Burnout Revenge for the 360 and Liberty City Stories for the PSP to keep me covered for the next while on the games front.

    Over the years there have been plenty of rubbish peripherals released for games systems. Example? The sound lounger;

    [Blocked Image: http://www.snarkpit.net/pits/reno/random/soundlounger.jpg]

Could that look any less appealing? Apparently it features a subwoofer so powerful you'll feel every roaring engine and brutal punch - and all from the discomfort of some shitty sleeping mat that places you in a horribly awkward gaming position! Only 130 pounds each? No wonder that guy bought a second one for his mate!

What pants peripherals have you guys come across? Anybody laid down the cash for something embarrasingly poor?

I'd buy more collector's editions if they didn't put them in shit boxes. I find all these carboard/tin/whatever "special" boxes nothing but an annoyance - they look out of place amongst the standard boxes and don't fit in DVD racks properly a lot of the time. I had the option of buying PDZ in regular or special editions for exactly the same price and vouched for the standard edition, simply because it used the normal box style.

Fun fun fun I agree with Mazy that it could get old kinda quick, but I love my 360 for short burst games and this seems like another good one. Great looking too - the zombie animations are great!

Arches along curves - that musta been rather hellish Worth it though, its looking very cool. Fetter's advice about lighting could help break up the repetition people are mentioning, and with some decals and props cluttering up the ground a bit I'm sure it will look uber sexy. Interested to see what sorta map this is gonna slot into

I'm hanging off upgrading my PC until the DX10 cards hit - now just seems a bad time to invest in a top of the line PC setup when, by the way people seem to hype it, DX10 (together with Vista) is gonna change everything.

And Taylor, you are a wise man. If only everybody could see it that way. It's not a competition, nor does it have to be mutually exclusive. PC's and consoles compliment each other perfectly by covering totally different ground, and the ground thats shared, well go with your preference. PC vs. Console arguments are pretty much as useless as MS vs. Sony vs. Nintendo arguments.

Prices on HDTV's aren't as unreasonable as they once were. I just bought a £600 32" Hyundai Q321 HDTV from Novatech and it looks fucking awesome, big difference over standard def sets. Granted, this isn't exactly a Panasonic or Sony here, and it certainly isn't the perfect TV (fairly clunky UI, and the built in digibox is rubbish), but if you are looking for an HDTV to link up to a PC or use with your 360, its a great bargain. Also picked up some Logitech Z-5500 speakers at the same time - not cheap but holy crap my gaming pleasure has increased significantly since this A/V overhaul!

    /sales pitch

Gonna try out this Dead Rising demo tomorrow, been looking forward to it for a while now
