That sucks and shouldnt happen. Youre the first one who has that problem as far as I am aware off. It might been a one off bad copy.

    Thanks for the comments: )

And yeah its a community site, even without user interaction. Everything on the site is meant for the community so...

A UE3 sound tutorial next month I hope, and after that I hope to finally get into real level design again with UT3

Things as too tilable definitely is too picky, a floating tree and being able to litterally fall out of the map however, isnt really something you want to have in your level:)

Modelling and textures of the statue are amazing, but the problem is, all this isn't standing out because of the complete lack of lighting contrast. It's a shame really.

I know the tech, and I can seriously, without overstating, create the lighting in that level from scratch in less than 30 minutes, rebuild/compile included.

I hope the other levels in the game has better things going.

More post proc options can be found in the inis. So if you want to dump the bloom and dof..

If you want to rebind the tab key = inis.

Imo this is Gears Of War Tournament, weapons aside, this has nothing to do with Unreal anymore. Its as gray, desaturated and techy as GOW where as Unreal meant warmth, mystery and atmosphere.

Unreal means colors, spaceships, aztec temples, castles, caves, and so on. Not gray cities and asian buildings.

Movement is great, as are the weapons, and both have the classic UT feeling again. However everything else is entirely new so it feels very contradicting. On one hand it tries to be the old game, on the other hand it also tries to be something entirely new. Either its this or that but not both imo.

I also agree that lighting is really bad, often non existant apart from a sunlight actor, and almost always very white. Also goes for the post processing but you can turn that off so thats ok.

I also think the game has a huge console feeling to it. Im playing a console port! The interface, hud, even the look of the levels with all the PP make me feel as if Im playing a game on the Xbox.

12 GB is nothing, really. Plenty of games are that size nowadays, and I have stuff on my HD thats twice to three times as big as that.

In our current age of consoles, we need pc games that push the boundaries, and make people upgrade (and thus keep the whole push for better graphics going - no need for more power = no sales for nvidia and ati = the whole thing slows downs)

Most games are just ported over from a xbox360 nowadays, they are limited by what the xbox360 can offer in power. We need games that arent influenced by that crap, and which truly deserve the title "pc game", but that does has a price... The same is true for UT3.

21.1, I havent upgraded my 3D card yet, waiting for Nvidia's new release in December.

With a new 3D card it woud be 24.5 \o\

I doubt how reliable the test is though..Its not like the game is out already.

First pic is absolutely great, rest are cool too, tho as with so many small forests, they sometimes do feel a bit cramped together composition wise.

Can you also increase contrast using color correction? If so, Id stick to the original color, but raise contrast. Its a little washed out now, where as the corrected one stands out more because of a stronger contrast.

It takes relatively long to understand what the hell youre looking at, and even when you finally got it, you still dont make the association with playstation. I dont anyway.

Its also feels pretty sad with its black and white, where as something to do with entertainment should feel happy and joyfull IMO.

Best part is, it prolly took them 6 months to decide, and 5 of our years salaries \o\

Not too good with English? I dont think theyve got "Please no english" area in their office....

For a starters job I seriously doubt theyd make any trouble over you not being all too good with english, although it may mean trouble if for example the lead interviewing you is a foreigner:)

Obviously you weren't aiming for a book of the size of the Encyclopædia Britannica, so it's understandable why you couldn't treat every subject with the same dedication, but still, I found some chapters of the book to be pretty deceiving, in that they did little more than citing some level-design related features and then passed on to something else. It was a good introduction to level-design, no doubt with that, but I was expecting to find something more. I might have been misled by the name though, and by the fact that I'm generally more interested in reading about gameplay than visuals and that the latter was more important than the former in your book.

I know that I didn't touch on everything, it wasn't the intention to do so either, and besides, it is completely impossible to touch on all subjects.

You might have had a too thorough understanding of level design to be a fit for my book. I really aim for beginners and intermediates and I am fully aware that for example a professional or somebody who has been mapping for (example) 8 years probably wouldn't get a great deal of value out of it. However, for a starter I believe my book helps heaps to better understand level design and the reasoning behind things.

I have found these mistakes to be very regular in your book, and those that I knew MS Word would have pointed out for you ended up irritating me a little bit.

With 55000 words I surely believe there are some errors, but I cant agree that its full of errors, and certainly not simple typos Word would have found. Believe me, if it were that simple I would have noticed them.

I just scrolled through the entire thing and the only words marked are gameplay, teleporter, etc.

    Looks really great.

You could also make an in between version. Not entirely desaturated pictures, like nearly black and white but still a subtle color shining through it.

Id love to play the game, but this kind of crap really withholds me from buying it...

It might be true that the whole problem gets hyped up a bit but I dont think you can say that thats a bad thing. You need to bring the message across to publishers like 2k that people dont want crap like this, you cant do that by being all nice and friendly.

300 euro is extremely little. It all boils down to where you work, I would prolly earn a few times more than I do now if I were to work in the USA, but that still doesnt mean they can exploit you...Whats the avg salary in Portugal/Poland? If your 300 euro is well below the avg, youre being exploited.

Being a game tester is a good way of getting into the industry but you'll will need some sort of higher education in English writing.

Depends where the studio is located. UK? Possibly yes, but in Germany or some other european mainland studio, no. Especially at smaller studios and local market studios you can get in without an english education.

The salary survery is american, a european tester would earn 800-1300 euro nett or so in western european countries excluding the UK. Its a crap job but the only way in to some.

I pay around 700 euro rent as well. A rent of 6-700 euro is normal if you don't want to live in the woods.

Insta, any reason why you wouldnt want to live in the woods? Besides your own preference? Im interested in Sweden and would definitely live outside town, any reason not to? Like "cant get out of your house in winter because theres 3 meter snow on the road" ?

You should be happy Slick, the UK is pretty good. Youve got more studios than all other european countries together....

In aevirex' case theres not a single decent studio within a (few?) hundred km around his house. Yay.
