  • Crates and Barrels!

Actually it IS very interesting, there are not that many inanimate objects like crates and barrels that have served various purposes but not actually having a real impact on gameplay comparing to, oh lets say, doors or guns, both things that we have seen plenty and people just don't seem to get enough of them.

Who invented the crates and barrels? Who was the first person to say "you know what, we are going to put a barrel in that corner and block that passage with a crate so our hero has to find and alternative way". And another thing that is so amazing is, they both are very simple geometric shapes, they could very well be cubes and cylinders.

That fucking host, they made me actually to go to irc as a secondary source of your half assed jabbering, and not so valuable information.

But nice to see core up and intact.

Well it is cool to actually see how there are two totally different styles of games coming out/or out right now, one group being Doom 3 the upcoming Quake 4 , Prey and Enemy Territories: Quake wars, Gears of War and UT2k7 and the other group being Half-life 2, Vampire the masqurade: Bloodlines, and Sin2. Group number one is very high on detail, they do detail with textures, details with shaders, details with lighting and so on, insane amounts of little bits and pieces of details to see everywherer. Group number two is simple clean world, detail is there where it is needed, and even when it is needed, they are done with textures if possible, maybe using shaders but not overworking them.

When looking the two kinds of games, I have not yet made up my mind which game type I like the most, but I am fairly sure that I will like both of them, not every game competing with each other, so maybe this is just the thing that Will Wright and Saturo Iwata are talking about, taking games again in to a different direction, taking alot of workload off from developers and using resources to different kind of development than just pushing out thousands of models and reusing them to death.

So we should take a look at things from this kind of perspective for a while. Even tho I didn't like the original Sin, who knows, maybe they have incorporated some excellent elements form HL2 which I think has easily one of the best gameplay in every straight forward FPS.

99.999% of the time i'm open to political disagrements and discussions... a few people will always just try to get a rise out of people.. and thats what he was doing..

Yeah but I have been forum moderator and mod team leader and what not, and one thing in that kind of position is what you have to have much more than balls is patience, everyone think they are the funniest guy alive, and everyone has their own opinion, and everyone will still have it even after the kick and bann, fuck things change after the guy who does those sort of stuff gets a grip. I know that you know what I am talking about.

    Quote from Urban

i was refering to his attempt and success at getting a reaction out of me.. he knew damn well what he was doing...

Yeah, and he just got that reaction, just made him happy there.

    Quote from Urban

so one action out of 5 years? wow.. someone is high and mighty.. i guess you have never done something that you might have regret...

Not high and mighty, but if it was the other way around and h2o banned you, I'd still be here. I have done alot of things I regret, and I know I regret those things because someone made me regret them, just like we are doing right now. It's a circle.

    Quote from Urban

like i said.. 99.999% of the time.. im a-okay with disagreements... i have my views and they have theirs... but i dont think you have the right to judge me without knowing the history behind what happened...

You are right, I don't have all the detail, but be real, would h2o have made a thread here if he was the one screwing things up, he would have kept his mouth shut.

So we all just drop this thing and let it die now ok.

    1. not the first time this has happened.. nor will it probably be the last...

Doesn't mean it makes everything perfectly well, look, this is just the kind of thing I was talking about when I posted first "Banned in irc during a political discussion only proves my point that all people who use irc are fuckwads by default." People do this kind of shit without thinking, so once every while they should be able to take some heat because of it.

    Quote from Urban

    2. so for the 5+ years ive been in #mapcore.. i should have them removed for one ban?

You said yourself that this has happened several times before and will continue, it is like a powerhungry cop admitting that he is corrupted by power and we just let it slide.

    Quote from Urban

    3. again, you never being in the channel... and getting 2 min of text really justifes you judging me?

Not the text, but the action, that makes me able to judge you.

I'm sorry if I'm just being honest, but I just can't comprehend the need of some people to just shut down everything when some conversation takes place where people talk something YOU don't agree on.

And besides, h2o saying something that fucked up, you should have guessed that it was a joke, even if it was a bad one.

So I'm confused. Why support an action if you do not support it? It's like Mazy killing a thousand kittens, even though he doesn't support it.

Please Kosmo: quit talking out of your ass.

You are very confused little boy, and I hope you find somekind of peace through theraphy or something, maybe you should take some medicine or something, you are very offensive and you obviously have delucions that everything negative being said in these forums are somehow targetted towards you.

If a man murders his family, an action I do not recommend, I still after the damage is done, really hope that he is incarserated for what he has done. It has nothing to do with me accepting actions he has done. Just like in this particular case, I do not support the actions of the Operator, but if he must do something, I gave some examples he could have done instead of just kicking and banning him my misguided friend.

Yeah, well I never expected anything groundbreaking from F.E.A.R. since it is Monoliths game, they have a habit of coming up with ideas and then underachieving.

I was never taught proper resoning and critical thinking and judging of "facts" and still I manage to do that properly, and I think that it is mainly due to the fact that I do not accept any religion, since I think every religion is against human rights.

But the big difference between scientific "fact" and religious mumbo jumbo is that religious mumbo jumbo is 2000 years old and still thought as correct as it was back then, as of various scientific "facts" have habit of overruling eachother when a newer point of view or study comes around (and here we learn how these facts were actually incorrect from the beginning or the time being), those religious assumptions and opinions have not updated them since they were written. Sure there are different views in different teachings of the same religion, but they remain still different points of view of the same thing which was wrong from the beginning, it doesn't matter how many different views you get from a half truth, it still remains half truth.

That is the most defining difference between a fact which presents itself as sciense and an opinion which is the religion. Sure there are almost religions amongst sciense too, like Albert Einsteins "theory of relativity" which seems to many still being a definining theory even though it has since been ruled "obsolete" by various scientific communities.

    Gibson, Mel

Yeah he would have been awesome too, especially the golden age Mel since the wrinkles he has now (some say they hide Nazi gold in them ) would not be so Max Payne.

What I'm most amazed in this particular situation is that, h2o was not askes to explain himself, nor was he asked to keep his opinions to himself (something I do not support tho) rather he was blindly banned in the first possible moment, I think that the OP was doing pretty bad job and should not even have his privelages, nor should he gain them back ever again.

Maybe if the OP took time to simmer down and ask h2o about it, he would have found out that he was joking and would not have made an ass of himself (yes, saying someone made an ass of himself is harsh, but truth sometimes is harsh).

Pretty sad if you're that narrowminded

Ok, I can bend a bit, not ALL irc users are retards, but this kind of thing happens all too often, people tend to have certain.. let's just say urges to act extremely childishly and retarded in irc, even people who are reasonable upstanding people. There is something that just gets to peoples very soul in irc.

I'm very open to all kind of political discussion, and people who can't stand other peoples opinions about this kind of subjects present immaturity and unintelligence. Same goes with issues about religion and sexuality (read. homosexuality).

No I think that is the irc users that are fuckwads and not me, besides I refuse to use irc other than information gathering channel if any other means of acquiring it doesn't present itself (e.g. developer interviews).

F.E.A.R. is pretty pimpin if you ask me, but nobody did, they never ask me.

But like we already know, it's all bout gameplay, and HL2 has been one of the best games, gameplay vise, so maybe it will transport to Sin too, hmm, maybe, perhaps, I hope so.

Is it important for a player to join a guild?

    Read my post again.

As for some posts, WoW is nothing special in terms of MMOG innovation, but it is extremely basic MMORPG with basic gameplay tested and true, and very very high production values, it is quality all the way, quality graphics, quality sounds and quality scripting, sure there are bugs but that is how games are, especially huge games like MMOGs.

The thing about WoW is that they made a MMORPG that people who don't usually play these kinds of games, would like to play, but they didn't forget the hardcore players either, my guild has couple of them, and they seem pretty happy, but like said here, the end game is pretty boring, but citing my earier post, guilds even this out very nicely, the hardcore players after they hit 60, are going to make new charst to the guild and help out others, and every now and then log their main char to do some PvP or help guildies with very hard quests, instances and raids.

So all in all, WoW is a game best when taken with friends.

How do you know they are the same? Has anyone actually compared them side by side? Has someone asked someone working at Ritual IF they were the same?

I don't give a flapping pussy about this, but some of you seem to be obsessed by these kind of things, so may I present you a possibility to ease your minds.

Prey, it looks like Doom3 part2, and that is much because it is heavily influenced by it and uses it's engine, maybe something like that is happening here? The artists working at the game are looking for HL2 for some inspiration and do things like Valve did for HL2, just because Valve knows how to do things best for their own engine, just like id can do the best things with their engine.

Now that there is a possibility that they are not the same models/textures/whatever you can ease your minds and wait for the release to be sure.

I'm a god, and I really mean it.

I always tought that sciense was about logic and laws, like mathematics and laws of physics, anything related (even remotely) to religion or superstition has nothing to do with sciense or truth what so ever. That is why we have two separate things, and not just one thing that is truth, religion to cover the supersitious things like soul and all that shit, and sciense to cover the things we can actually study and reason as truth.

This all comes down to logic, if you can touch something or someone can present you with anough facts about it, you'd rather believe on that (especially if it is very recent study) than some mumbo jumbo religion that has vague scriptures about some peoples OPINIONS and their side of the story.

Max Payne has been modelled after real people too, in the first one Sam Lake (Sami Järvi) the writer of Max Payne, and second one after Timothy Gibbs since they were "in the money" so they could hire a real actor to pose as the charater and do the comicbook cutscenes.

The strangest part is that, why they didn't model Max after James McCaffrey who just looks too badass, and has actually played several quite similar roles.
