10 000 people completly on the festival.

That is not actually that much. We have a small festival here at Oulu (city roughly 120,000 population) called Qstock and it had around 12,000+ visitors and it's around fourth of the size of the bigger festivals here in finland.

I think they're idiots and i don't believe that what they are doing has anything to do with islam at all.

Idiot is not very good word to use about people who device extremely complex strikes against big cities. I think they are mentally sick, and that is why I think they think they are doing Allahs bidding, and see that USA and the rest of nato warmongers are targetting muslims in their "quest" to rid world of terrorists, and I think that recent actions of Bush goverment has made it pretty clear that they think all terrorists are muslims or muslims are terrorists. Even if they don't actually think that all muslims are terrorists, their actions tell us othervice.

And that is more than a good reason for them to defend Nation of Islam against the forces of evil.

The key to mod work is contribution, usually mod teams have a core team consisting of few people who actually do all the work, but it doesn't mean you can't do anything to the mod. Alot of material is contributed to the mod team, like props, textures and maybe even charater models.

Most common contribution is a map, like most of the official Natural Selection maps.

If you are going to mod and you are a complete beginner, I'd seriously consider modding for UT2k4 instead of HL2. It comes with 3d-modelling tool, Maya PLE and the mapping packet is solid, and there is tons and tons of tutorials and videos (especially the 3dbuzz videos), it is extremely easy.

I have little experience of coding, but good amount of modelling and texturing experience, and absolutely no experience about UT2k4 engine but I was able to do my own weapon for UT2k4 in the matter of days.

Your post was a little misleading about the illinois thing Kosmo. Its not just games in general that can't be sold to minors...

    http://www.firstamendmentcenter.org/news.aspx?id=15592

Doesn't sound like a particularly big issue to me, but it depends on where you draw the line about "extremely violent or sexual" really.

Well apparently the news post at Gamesindustry.biz was rather short on specifics. You know, you don't hear news anymore, you hear opinions.

But the fact still stays, these "extremely violent or sexual" games are rated to only be sold to adults, since I don't believe that they are going to even try to convince anyone that games rated mature are "extremely violent or sexual".

No I don't see them doing retarded shit, since I assume them doing it without me even looking. The fact that illinois is the first to try to get this kind of law through to the voters is just an example that it could happen anywhere, haven't you ever heard of 'someone has to do the first move'.

Although it was stupid to go into Iraq with not even enough evidence of WMD, it was still a step in the war on terror. Sort of. :-/

Yes, a step for the worse, and the London bombing only proofs that, the terrorists all around the world are even more pissed now than they were earlier, the fact that USA and it's faction of ouf of control military powers, spearheaded by some of the most idiotic men in the history of politicians and their inane decisions of locations to attack on their "war on terror" is just a proof that they are just targetting muslims and the terrorists counter it with targetting anything remotely western and christian.

    Quote from de@Gle

Also, uh I was wondering the other day. Why does suicide bombers somtimes target Iraqi civilians? Don't they want to target the US? Its the civilians fault that the US took over Iraq. Why should they pay the price? I just don't understand...

You should consider thinking more about the word 'terrorist' and and less about 'rebel on the path on setting his people free from tyranny'.

The poor bastards have just confirmed that games are considered as bad to kids as tobacco and alcohol, as the state of illinois is trying to pass a law that allows them to fine of 1,000$ if a clerk sells a game to a minor.

Now if I remember correct, the fine for selling tobacco to a minor is 500$ so the state of illinois actually considers games as MORE dangerous to your health than tobacco.

    Uuuuh, shiny.

I have to agree with few of the longfangs here, it looks tad like the c17 maps in HL2 SP but actually not that dull, this seems to have some personality, atleast judging by the material we have.

Why isn't anyone doing maps inspired easily by the coolest map in HL2 SP, ravenholm puzzle part. I think I had the most fun with that place in the whole game.

Funny thing is that, even when a game is considered bad for even a over 15 year old, it is often put in the same place as tobacco and alcohol.

Now let's see, tobacco is the main reason for lung cancer for well over one hundred years, alcohol has been the main reason for liverfailure for about a thousand years, and vaguely a handful of game related shootings has happened around the time of 8 to 10 years. So versus around millions of people dead because of tobacco and alcohol and videogame related killing sprees, yes I can find you why people think that videogames are way worse to their kids than a pack of smokes each day for the rest of their life.

Cause Interplays isn't making FO3 anymore. And Bethesda isn't using the "Van Buren" concept, they are making their own.

    Oh so sad

I tought that they are not going to reuse anything from the Van Buren project, but that doesn't mean that they are asshats, surely they can understand that the original designs are valuable since the team had some original FO developers, so why toss good ideas away and blindly expect that fans will not let the game flop even if it is a game of post-apocalyptic Texas hold'em.

So the real reason like alot of other stuf is : MONEY

That is the easy answer, say what could not possibly come to answer of money in a capitalistic society of the modern western civilization? There just is not such a thing as commonwealth anymore, it is just a monetary gain of specific group, but means to gain the hold are what we are studying here, wy do use a means of region control. I think 99, 99% of everyone at Mapcore realized that money was behind everything before this thread was even started.

Well, I know that even if the game is AO it doesn't mean the retailer is AO.

I had a problem several years ago, where me and my gf were going to rent the Blade Directors cut and the woman at our local video reting store didn't rent it to us because we were under 18, so we went to another place that had a clerk familiar to me (a friend if you will) and he rented it to us.

So the moral of the story, if the local game store was a drug store, I could get any drug available, since I know everyone working there.

Another one I would like to add is, that watching a single episode of OZ or Shield if way more harmfull than a videogame sex scene they can unlock through the internet with some serious knowledge of modifications, period.

I really, really think that valve throws a shit over the fence as what they are concerned about EA, it's just pointless to them to take any orders from EA what so ever.

Valve, manhandling the single most powerfull publishing platform in the internet, also known as Steam, do you really think they are going to bow down and take a dump from EA?

Yes, EA IS very powerfull, but their reach ends where sales end, Valve has a force in their very posession that doesn't just end with distribution, it will, distribute users with patches, modifications and free expansions. So IMO they care about EA as far as they can throw them.

If I had the power of Steam in my posession (and yes, you can make ALL the jokes you can about steam engines and steam technology) I'd kick EA in the nuts as fast as my sales figures were straight down to zero, so no more retail copies of the game is going out, equals, bye bye, EA and its partners and what ever gay shit they were cooking up.

    Oh and >

  • Reason for Console Regions?

    • Kosmo
    • July 30, 2005 at 10:57 AM

First off, Region Coding and Region Lock are two different things, region coding is what we find from DVD movies, and it is designed after the region lock of the video game industry, mainly used in consoles.

Region coding is used to prevent various materials to be sold in other countries where laws differ, examples are banned material from various regions, like pornography in Middle East, Pokemon in Saudi Arabia and Nazi material in Europe.

Localization is one reason aswell, studios tend to make localized versions of movies for different regions, they can thusly control the release date, content and price for each region.

Region lock works prettymuch the same way but is more stricktly controlled because there are only one hardware developer per console, the recent ESRB rating scandals are a perfect example of why region locking was invented in the first place.

And usually games are distributed by different companies to different regions, which prevents companies from "competing" with each other in cross region distributing.

So long story short, both region cogind and region locking are invented to prevent illegal content being distributed and more viable localization and pricing per region.

    :edit:

    Quote

Making the PSP and GBA games region free was the best idea for sony and nintendo, because it allows gamers to play games from other countries of the same frequency. (NTSC & PAL).

The NTSC and PAL are one of the reasons why region coding is used, to prevent content looking different in different regions, so GBA, DS and PSP can be region free because they have their own screens and games are developed to look right on them, so this ofcourse removes the fear of games not working properly on different regions and different systems.

Yes ea has to make a bunch of games at once so the put numbers over the quality so they suck alot

Ah, Alexjfry3, I'm not expecting EAs business with Valve to extendto to the engine level, and even if so, they are not losing money by sold copy, VUG has already made sure of that.

So, in plain english, EA has no risk involved with this deal, BUT they will make what ever profit out of this to "compensate" their so called "loss" with deals, out of reason to man, or man alike (monkey-strike: source, or what feces ever).
