Why do you refer on terrorist acts when a full blown war is at hand? There hasn't been a regular peace in Israeli and Palestinian areas since Isreal was found.

Besides it is very well known that when England was supposed to ratify the state of Israel but hesitated, the Jews made terrorist strikes against England, which makes Israel more terrorist country than Afganistan or Iraq, it was found by fucking terrorists as their own sanctuary.

So don't come to tell me how their tactics differ from each other, they are both murderers and terrorists, should be both blown to smithereens, that war isn't going to ever end since the place has religious meaning to the other and historical meaning to the other party.

Well if you are doing pro graphics design work on your monitor, calibration is a must no matter which type monitor you use.

Colorproofing some photographs on non calibrated monitor is like pissing in dark, you might hit once or twice, but most of the time you are just making a mess.

I just want to say on record, Israel doesn't belong there, and either way, the whole war is pointless, the whole area should be pushed in to the fucking ocean or it should be buried in to 20feet of solid concrete.

For some reason I associate Fear with Max Payne games, the feeling is bit the same and the world is almost like the one from Max Payne (sans the horror) with it's dirty and dank feeling.

One reason I like Fear way more than Doom 3, the action is good in opposite of Doom's everything being just so boring, and the horror even if it is borrowed largely from Japanese horror flics, is way better than "oh, yet another monster x coming from behind a panel in the wall" or something like that.

I definedly agree that sex is a big part of knowing your mate, there are loads of stuff you can learn from her/him if you you listen or are not afraid to talk about, and talking about sex without having it is like beating yourself with a sandpaper.

And as for religion coming in the way of pre-marriage sex is something I'm totally against, if they deny something from themselfs just because some religion says so it's wrong, if they don't want to have sex before marriage but it doesn't have anything to do with religion then it's fine, atleast you made your own mind, maybe even weighted and tought about it a bit before making your mind, not just jumping to easy conclusions and letting some 2000 year old carpenter to live your life for you. Besides, it's just right to break up because of this, it just shows that you don't respect your mates opinions one bit if it overlaps with a fucking book, take a grip from reality.

It's hard, since I need resolution around 1600x1200 or even higher when I'm working in Photoshop, and most 19" have native resolution of 1280x1024 but which is perfect for gaming.

Tho most new games support widescreen gaming and there is always the possibility of playing in a window, something I mostly do when I'm playing a MMORPG.

The last place I worked I had two 19" Samsung syncmaster 959NF CRT monitors and I loved them to hell and back. Also at school we had the 19" Eizos (several different models but all pro quality).

So I got love for CRT monitors, but I'd love to go for LCD monitor.

Discussion has evolved from person point of view to company scale, which is also good since different companies and different management styles create different environments for the workers.

Ofcourse these things are rather obvious, company has to make money, bigger corporations have alot more to answer for than smaller companies, and from medium sized company to large the management costs start to rise exponentially, risk taking is not an option because it involves alot more than just the risk takers, and in the worst case, if you take too big of a risk, you might end up losing it all, hundreds of people might end up losing also and you might even end up in jail.

But I think we all know everything about this.

But what changes for worker in small, medium and large company? Even if the large company can support the continuous development more securely than a small company, and because small companies take risks they might backfire. So is it that the larger the company the better you are?

The response times vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, when reading some Thom's Hardware tests it shows that sometimes 16ms and even 12ms response times are in reality 20ms and others go for safe than sorry and note 20ms when their display is actually 12ms.

And nowdays I think they even use new way to measure the response time with GtG (gray to gray) rather than BtB (black to black) which is more realistic in real life use than the BtB.

kleiney, if you are here for the LSD you are way too late, it's all gone.

So I'm curious about your monitors. I'm guessing that because many of you are gamers, you still use CRT monitor, am I right?

But I bet some use LCDs mainly because they are cheap and recently they can handle gaming quite good. So I'm curious about what kind of monitor you have, would you buy a LCD or if you have one, how is it in gaming and your personal toughts about LCDs in general.

I have been looking at the Dell UltraSharp 2005FPW 20" Widescreen monitor and it would suite me quite well since I'm a graphic designer and I need big screen (or rather I have gotten uset to one at work) with lots of workspace. And the screen is cheap but is has only 12ms response time and the brightness isn't that hot at 300cd/m2. I could go with some 19" LCD and if they are cheap enough, I could get two of them which would be heaven.

But, now it's time for your opinions.

Tattooing some game logo somewhere is so... uh, well let me give you an example.

"Hey dude what's that tattooed on your arm" says guy #1

the guy #2 responds "oh, uhh... it's a game that was released around 20 years ago, I kicked some serious ass in it, so I got the game's logo tattooed to my arm"

    *a silent pause*

then the guy #1 says "20 years ago?"

"it was a good game" says the guy #2

"yeah but 20 years ago, that is like so old" the guy #1 snickers

Yeah but sometimes our romantic view of the industry works and some might make millions of their piece of art, just look at Remedy, they have done exactly what they wanted to do and they hit it big, very big.

I understand that money is the necessary evil and sometimes it can fuck things up, publishers have pushed mind numbing mainstream action titles to the market and thusly killed the generic gamers view of anything else like Psychonauts or Mafia, and then the publishers wonder "why didn't our other games make so much money."

I'm going to use Dice as an example, few years ago there was a game called Codename Eagle by Refraction, the games singleplayer was so so, it had some very nicely planned missions with swapping uniforms and stealing vehicles, but the multiplayer.. WOW! Man me and my cousin played through weekends sleeping like some 2 hours and just tearing it apart in LANs and such, it was a blast, one of the best games I have ever played, AND only game you can have a motorcycle jump with it from a cliff jump out of it and enter in to a plane in mid air then jump out of the plane and enter a car when you hit the ground

Then comes a company called Dice, takes out the stupid singleplayer, leaves the multiplayer (because it was the start of the goldenage of multiplayer only games) gives it a WW2 shooter twist, and voila, everything is history. So gamers didn't even know about the game, it sold very poorly and it was prettymuch a flop. So what changed when Dice practically remade the game? Well... EA knows how to sell a WW2 shooter they have molded the market for WW2 shooters that they put out every week killing the market for everything else.

    Quote from FrieChamp

At times you guys bash EA a little bit too much, as if Satan himself was running the corporation, with the goal to destroy all games. You all played BF2, maybe battle for middle earth or c&c generals, black & white 2 just came oiut, the new bond game, nfs most wanted also looks fun...

Well, it's not that EA is bad by default, but such large corporation, has alot of ongoing projects, alot of workers and it has to please the investors, they rush their projects out of the door, and along the way fucking them up. They have to make sure their projects make money so they can keep up all of their projects/jobs/investors, so they don't have the freedom of making what ever they want, and that is why I personally hate EA.

Making games is an artform, something that is made out of love and not for sales.

And nother thing, BF2, Black & White 2 and many other games are not made by EA, but most gamers that are not in to the industry still think that they did, because it is the biggest logo on the box, and first logo to appear in the game intro.

The industry is in a growing point, old methods don't fly anymore, like every other industry game industry hasto evolve too, and the competition will get harder and things will get rough before they will get better, but like movie industry, indipendend movies are celebrated and there is plenty of room in there for a little guy.

Charlie Cleveland aka. Flayra the leader of NS mod team and the founder of Unknown Worlds Entertainment has some pretty good ideas on how indie developer can make it, through a network of smaller developer teams that work on different parts of the game hired by the game developer itself, this doesn't necessarily mean that there is a studio that hires studios to make art for example, it could mean that a studio hires a freelancer to do concept art for them and put his own guys to work on art and programming, and some art is bough from outside (something S2 Games is already doing) and engine comes from outside, this cuts the development costs and time.

I have on several occasions tought about finding my own studio with few of my friends who are also interested in working in game development, we would do graphics design for game developers to fund the work on our own game this takes the risk of working for 3 years for demo and then failing to get publishers interested on our project and going belly up.

One of the biggest problems is that publishers control the market way too much and bigger companies like EA make game development to appear like any other industry with their factory work and dumbed down game concepts.

Project Offset is a great example what a team roughly 3 memebers in size can do when they have the drive for it instead of them working on a game to make them rich.
