Yeah death of MP3 and OGG.Just get the music uncompressed =)

Btw. I remember reading they said holographic teqnology could get up to some ridiculous amounts of storage... Don't remember how much but a lot more than mentioned in this thread.

    Anyway exciting stuff

I'm guessing that you mean the Holographic memory cube theory.

In theory, holographic storage can have petabytes (1000TB) and even exabytes (1000PB) of storage. But that is in theory, the holographic memory cube and holographic disc are two wery different things. The Holographic disc works much like a normal laser disc but uses holographic principles. Holographic memory cube is a 3 dimentional surface where you can write data, the insane of capacity is based on a principle that if we vary the lenght of the beam we can write data anywhere inside the solid cube, even overlapping each other in different angles.

But that is just very wild theory and pretty much sci-fi at the moment, not even close to holographic disc which is very much like a laser disc and it is real.

    1. why would you need 1.6 tb's2. whats it going to cost

    1. I have worked in a small firm that made tv commercials and done small amount of editing, and I can say that you know those LaCie Biggest discs that hold 2TB? Well, you can wipe your ass with them.

We had a file server with several Terabytes of capacity for all the original video material and the finished products. And a huge library full of DVDs and tapes as a backup.

So that 1.6TB would come in handy as a storage.

    2. They ARE working on it as a viable future media to replace current media formats, so I guess they are going to be as cheap as current DVDs. You know, when you manufacture few hundred billion of something, the production costs are close to nil.

a bridge and a building is allways standing on a earth. Also to build a bridge needs concrete and cement, wich is taken from the mines deep below the earths surface what is earth's own materia.

we are back again on track 1.

    no seriusly..

Holographic technology uses two lasers instead of one, one red and one blue-green to read and write data. The red one conventionally tracks the location and blue-green is used to access the data in the disc surface.

If you need more comlicated explanation you have to check out some internet articles on this, which you might find from sparknote forums.

TB is short for Terabyte or 1,000 gigabytes.

If that 50gig Blu-Ray sounded large, think about 300gig disc.

Maxell says that they have what they need to ship first holographic storage systems in late 2006.

The disc Maxell is offering is developed by InPhase Technologies and it's 300gb storage and 20MB/s trasfer rate is just a pahse one of the format. InPhase claimed that the format can go up to 1.6TB storage and whopping 120MB/s transfer rates. To put that in scale, current gen DVD-9 goes for theoretical 8.5gig and 21 MB/s transfer rate.

Again, like in the next-gen format war, there will be two manufacturers in here too, other side being HVD alliance with their HVD disc developed by Optware holding 200gig capacity and theoretical of 1TB and 1gig of transfer rate per second.

Both of these discs are based on holographic technology.

Anyways, back on topic. Religion isnt racism. It is now in fact you who wants to imprison others for their beliefs. You dont exactly prove that atheism is great

I'm aware of that my prejustice against religions is as bad as religions prejustice against other religions, but it's a necessary evil I am willing to handle in my quest for more tolerant world. People who hate racists for what they believe are also racists, but I don't judge them by that because they also are in a quest for more tolerant world.

Religion is not racism, but it's yet another way to categorise human beings in to sub groups, just like if you are gay or what color your skin is.

I consider Atheism idiotic, why the hell there even has to be a some sort of option if you don't believe in any religion, to me there just are no religions, end of story, I consider them only as philosophies nothing more.

Leave it up to someone to always ruin a perfectly legitimate thread, whether it be discussion about grammar or something completely unnecessary like above. Is it that hard to not respond, or is there something that compells you to be a jackass?

And you were compelled to participate to the thread even if it clearly stated that participation should be concidered as a bad move? You have no one else to blame than yourself.

Posty I have a bad feeling that this thread might take an ugly turn to highway to nowhere.

You would be better off to just lock the thread when there still is a clear argument for and against the topic but minimal amount of "u r gay."

    Agreed?

Typos yes, regular mispellings and AOL-speak no.

But as you can see from your misspelling 'mispellings' even if you know how the word is spelt, you still write it wrong, it's a basic motoric action of the hand, hard to fix. So that is why I said, be civilized with each other, and don't attack them with blind rage, it's not that people make typos and misspellings just to be a jackass.

But you are absolutely right with the AOL slang, that is used just to piss people.

They outlawed racism and there are not hundreds of millions of people in prisons. So what is your point?

actually hundreds of millions have been imprisoned

And it's not necessarily a bad thing, racists should be locked up, and those who can't live without shoving religion to everywhere from politics to opinions about other people and how "worthy" they are should definedly be locked up too. You can believe anything for what I care, it's you private thing, but the minute you start to treat people badly because they are the wrong religion or start to shove it to peoples faces and being a complete dick about it, I say you are not a properly functioning part of the modern society.

I agree with you there posty, we should try to check that what we write is written atleast so that it doesn't make the point hard to understand.

But as it clearly is, political discussion is about opinions, and respecting others opinions and choices. So even if some can stand few typos and few go mad over them, we should try to tolerate them atleast. If you can tolerate others opposing views, you very well can tolerate few typos.

So again, more than anything, let's be civilized towards each other.
