Gonna have to take all this with a grain of salt. Two sides to every story. Right now we're hearding from Adrian that id was evil to him. Remember what happened when Romero left? There was the Romero story (anti-id), and then the id story (which, according to masters of doom was the correct story). Two stories, none of us were there. I'd hate to think of myself as an id fanboy, but I probably am, so there has to be a good reason for id doing this.
Just gonna hafta wait and see. Hope this doesnt put a damper on their next project. I cant wait to see what John Carmack has up his sleeve.
My only complaint is that the hand looks way too big on all the gun models. Other than that, good stuff.
they removed hotlinking to the wmv. heres the page to the link.

I'm shocked that some of the things that guy says he actually believes. Gotta love stupid people.
Quote from kleinlukaYou know, thats why its beta. I thougt this term was more or less understood around these boardsBetas aren't final products.
Yeah, but betas are generally more original content and alot less buggy. The internal alpha we have for bms is a lot more polished than this.
And what is the problem with me voicing my opinion? I would have worded it nicer if I hadent walked away from sow with such a dissapointed look on my face but that was my overall impression.
imho, this was a very dissapointing "beta".
From what I played, this mod is nothing original. Its CS with DOD gameplay that takes place only in desert settings. There are bugs every six feet. No sprites work, damage is unrealistic, flip a car and you fall through the terrain, open the console and just read every line as some kind of error saying "cant find some kind of CS assest because we didnt take the time to remove all the references", no object sounds, skills dont work, maps look incomplete, stall on all weapons animations, and a cs maplist. I could go on but im getting bored just talking about this game.
QuoteI'm sorry to say this, but I think I'm going to cry myself to sleep after playing that
I would be hard pressed to play any future releases of it.
QuoteTo comply with this desire, the level designers decided on a more inclusive process by which they constructed primitive blocky gray levels or fragments of levels that focused on the basic desired game-play experience.
Am I the only one who thinks they never went from this step to the next step? Imo, the fear level design was good gameplay wise, but all the locations (at least in the fear demo) seemed to consist of box rooms/hallways with little to no detail.
Don't get me wrong. FEAR was fun to play and when you go back and look at a game like HL2, you notice that alot of the rooms are box rooms with little to no detail (mostly the rooms near the end of the game), but the plus of HL2 is I didnt notice this until I played it through the second time. With FEAR, I noticed it right off the bat and wasnt that impressed.
Still gonna buy the game, wanna play it, but just thought I'd express that thought. Tear it apart if you want, thats jut my opinion.
QuoteBut what I'm really worried is this: "As of DirectX 10, to be introduced in Windows Vista, 3D features will be bound to version numbers of Direct3D. What this means is that all 3D vendors will support the same features, guaranteeing compatibility across the board. Although this may sound great, allowing for a more standardised games development environment, the reality is that Microsoft will soon be regulating the introduction of 3D features, leaving companies such as NVIDIA and ATI at the mercy of the software giant."
It gets worse. Rumor has it that DX10 is not backwards compatable because it will use an entirely different set of libraries. If you launch any game that is not DX10 in windows vista, vista will emmulate a DX9 enviornment (think of what mac OS10 does for
Dont know about you guys, but I'm not all that anxious to jump onto the vista bandwagon if this is true. Worst comes to worst, I'll do a dual bootup with xp and vista until the hardware is fast enough so I dont even notice the difference in performance.
I'm not saying Daikatana was a bad game. I thought it was worth playing through. What I'm saying is that Daikatana was hyped up to all hell and featured delay after delay after delay. When the game finally came out, it was build on the Quake II engine at the time of the Quake III engine. Fans were dissapointed because it looked dated and did not live up to its hype.
The general concensus was that it sucked. I'm not saying it sucked. I'm just saying lets hope that that does not happen to Nightwatch. Maybe its just me, but I'm detecting similar patterns in the development of Nightwatch and Daikatana.
I'm telling you, they're turning Nightwatch into Diakatana.
QuoteDisplay MoreIndustry Assn. Responds to Violent Game BillThe IEMA urges Schwarzenegger to veto a California ban on violent games.
by David Adams
September 12, 2005 - Late last Thursday the California Legislature passed a bill which would provide stiff penalties to retailers selling violent games to minors, as well as require that mature games be clearly labeled as such. The legislation, Assembly Bill 1179, awaits approval or veto by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Today, the Interactive Entertainment Merchants Association (IEMA) responded to the news, once again describing the legislation as unnecessary and threatening to freedom of expression.
"The IEMA remains opposed to AB 1179 for many reasons," said IEMA president Hal Halprin, "not the least of which is that it is impractical -- in essence creating a California-only class of products requiring retailers to buy, warehouse and distribute California video games separately from other inventory -- it is unnecessary, in that our member companies have already voluntarily committed to carding policies to inhibit the sale of Mature-rated games to minors, and it is clearly unconstitutional. Time and again courts have uniformly held that video games, just like books, movies, and music, are expression that is fully protected by the First Amendment."
Halprin and the IEMA ask Governor Schwarzenegger to veto AB 1179, making its case in pragmatic terms.
"We hope that Governor Schwarzenegger understands and appreciates the lengths to which our members who conduct business in the State of California have gone to fulfill their social obligations on a voluntary basis. It was disheartening to see the bill pass the house and senate, but we refuse to believe that the Governor will allow this matter to become further politicized and divisive -- leading only to a course which would inevitably cost the taxpayers valuable resources, and an unceremonious fate that has been played out in the court system. We instead hope that he will veto AB 1179 and ask that the State work more closely with the games industry in much the same way that it does the music and movie businesses."
The Governor has 30 days from Assembly approval to either sign or veto the bill.

I stand by my original statement that if the Terminator himself signs this bill, it will be the most ironic thing ever.
shit, fine... I... I turned out fine...
Eh, I played plenty of violent games when I was young and I turned out murder.
