its a good game but its indeed to repetitive and if you ask me the graphics arent that good, ok the effects and shit are the best there are with hl2 amongst its side but if it wasnt for the game being so dark there wouldnt be shit left of it. when you walk around the levels when you have killed all the monsters you start to see so many things that could have been done better for example there are a lot of textures in the game that look like fucking crap and are low res as hell and then ofcourse the statement that it all looks like plastic and i also dont like the characters theyre all ok but nothing special they all are blocky as hell. look at the heads of the human characters their fucking low poly. and yes theres another one! the game is heavy as hell i have an amd3000+, 512 ddr pc3200, gf 6600gt, and it runs fine but its loading all the goddamn time making the game stutter like hell and no its NOT my machine i run hl2 on 1280x1024 all on high with 4xaa 4xantisotropic and it barely gets below 60fps when i did that with doom3 my machine failed misserably so is the engine all that great? yes it is but not on this generation computers they took the big step to early i think they should have waited a year or 2 resulting in more computers being able to play the game (resulting in more sales) and they could have then used more descent HIGH res textures and ofcourse the characters could be higher poly.

eventhough its a freakin scary game that i (tried to) enjoy but i didnt whent further then the first few levels. when i get a pc thats a whole lot faster i will maybe try it again

  • My arch thing model something..

just a thought for the arch texture pic you posted (dont know if this would really be better im f*cking noob at these things) but i think you might want to make the texture just a straight one instead of that arch like and just uvw it per section of the arch (dont really know how to say that hope you understand) it would look kinda messy inbetween but that would only be seen from far away i believe so that wont really be seen. this way your texture would be really smaller so atleast that would be better

just picked this up at [email protected] for more details.

"I am thrilled about joining the team at Epic Games" said Tim Johnson. "I’m a long-time fan of Unreal games and technology, and I am proud to be joining a company I consider to be a world leader in both game development and next generation middleware."

"We’re very excited to have Tim Johnson join Epic Games," said Epic founder and CEO, Tim Sweeney. "He brings six years of engine development experience to the Unreal Engine 3 development team, and he’s already brimming with ideas on how to improve our technology. Tim is a great fit for Epic – he clearly understands all sides of the licensing business, from engineering to customer support to business development. He will have a huge positive impact on our company and our engine licensees."

    just WOW

hmm the room would be really cool with a giant and a little kid (how original) but that would create some interesting gameplay with those portals

you probably clip out of the level so the solution would be to make your map bigger

  • fileplanet deceiving us??

    • rockdude86
    • April 26, 2005 at 5:53 PM

so i went on to fileplanet once again to check if they had any cool stuff for me to download and guess what they have a hl2 lost coast movie!

    quote from fileplanet:

Showing off high-res Half-Life 2 footage of Valve's new High-Dynamic Range rendering, take a trip into the Lost Coast with this high quality video with over one minute of gameplay footage. Simply amazing.

so me downloads it imediatly and watching it when dl completes.

turns it out to be an old "coast" movie we have all seen before

damn those guys how could they do this?? was it a mistake and do they really have this "lost coast" movie or what is it?? i checked planethalflife and they dont have any news on this so whats up with this?

hows that any better in source? I find the texture system HORRIBLE in source...it gives me nightmares!

well google up a texture tutorial for halflife1 (its the same as for hl2) and you will find a lot of tricks for aligning textures (especially for rounded stuff)

and those are things that are fucking tricky to do with the unreal editor

    • rockdude86
    • April 20, 2005 at 5:56 PM

the only thing the unreal editor isnt superior in when you compare it to hammer is its texture aplication tool but he who cares about aligning all that base geometry right

    • April 19, 2005 at 7:45 PM

its not only the importing texture problem i have ran into.

its also so many bugs that there are now in hammer that wherent in the older versions (carve tool now really is totally useless) they even fucked the clipping tool for god sake (when i use it it snaps the point 1 unit next to where i click) wtf did they do that for??

and to make matters even worse sometimes hammer fucks up the grid making it always stick to grid size 1 (only thing to resolve this seems to copy paste your brushes into a new map)

and to finish it off and being a complete hammer basher i HATE the displacement editing! why couldnt they do this more like on the unreal engine, i mean you can only use 2 materials on a displacement that is so crappy man
