  • Say NO to low FOV Petition - (Idea)

This is the one thing that pisses me off the most about console ports and just developer attitude in general. Low fov's DO NOT WORK on 16:10/16:9 widescreen ratios. So far I've had trouble with:

Dead Space due to low FOV causing me motion sickness so I've been unable to play it again or finish it. What a waste of money that was.

Bioshock gave me headaches from its low FOV but it was just too darn good to not finish.

Borderlands I had to literally go and change all of the game settings to even get to work on a PC but was rewarded with good fun, but was really annoyed that I had to even modify anything.

Single player has no place in a battlefield game for me. It's all about the mp action, yo!

In case no one can be bothered to look at the details:

Doesn't look as impressive in those 2 shots as oblivion first did back in the day, but I'm eager to see more.

One thing I find with BC2 is that I always play as Medic... Some maps don't have vehicles so you would never play as Engineer. Assault is pointless when defending.. And Recon is just rubbish. You can easily rack up points as Medic and Assault, but the other 2 are a lot harder to get high on the scoreboard with.

As recon you take any of the automatic shotguns and use motion mines to scout the way ahead of yourself and flank the baddies. The kill count you can rack up is pretty ridiculous by playing like this.

... We should probably agree to disagree on this point, then I don't like what Valve has done with TF2. They took a game with well-defined, easy to understand roles and then needlessly complicated it with a million different stupid items, imo.

    Agreed.

An almost inconsequential amount of extra damage. It's a joke load out that everyone fell for.

edit: it is not in the same league as MW's stopping power. Not even close.

If it is inconsequential why even have it in the game? Oh wait, it does do something, quite a lot actually.

BC2 is the best multiplayer game after its grandfather 1942, not that bloated mess we call BF2.

Heh, ok. This pretty much says everything but let's go along with this anyway.

    Quote from Erratic

Class consoldiation was the best fucking thing BC2 did for the series, going back to 1942 and taking it even further to make every class feel like they each had a substantial place. Engineers with just shotguns fuck off with that shit.

Class consolation was boring for me, end of. I like diversity and choice. Kind of why I don't just put all my food into a blender, you know? And the shotgun on the engineer was one of the best guns in the game.

    Quote from Erratic

FP melee is generally shit, no need to prolong this. 1 hit knife kills solves this problem

Have you even used BC2's knife?? Half the time it never works, but when it does it may as well be an insta kill attack from god of war... oh wait it is! You press it and it spins the view around and locks on for you while you just watch. The BEST part however, is it makes you invincible while it goes through the attack. Please. It's bullshit.

    Quote from Erratic

What a great way to introduce a mechanic that, for the player who takes the extra effort, gets an almost dead on shot against tanks, and even choppers. Great example of infantry class balance Vs. vehicles. Bravo DICE.

Yeah, ok, I'll just try and save my only spawning tank on the map that we need to push with in order to take the objective while 20 guided missiles fly at me from the other side of the map shall I? Yeah. Fantastic!

    Quote from Erratic

Adds to choice, more granular counters to other loadouts.

That's ok, people need to have their hand held and be given ridiculous extras like mag rounds or else they won't be able to kill jack.

    What made BF2 great:

Big open maps that could have several combat zones dotted around them, no real linearity.

Playing with friends in a squad THAT'S BIGGER THAN 4.

Taking a buggy and literally going off behind enemy lines.

Being your own unit with a group of friends and being allowed to make a difference by yourselves by capping points.

Lots of classes, none of this condensed and unified rubbish.

No one hit kill knife that doesn't even obey the laws of player visibility.

Anti tank weapons took skill, no auto aim tracer rounds.

    Took several shots to die.

    No blood obscuring your vision.

    Going prone.

    No 3d auto spotting.

Reliance on a commander for support that actually mattered.

    Hit indicator.

No stupid bodyarmour or magnum rounds for fat noobs.

And the best one of them all; a huge array of choices. A good portion of today's popular mutliplayer games feel too limiting and constrained. Fucking consoles man.
