There were Sem (Semites), Cham (the blackies) and Jafeth (Whities). Their father was Abraham, who probably lived somewere near Persia, wich would make him most likely a Semite (but they didn't excist yet, at that moment, as you will understand).

Please tell me you're not using the Bible to describe the decemination of the races across the world.

He mentioned Africa because most of the oldest hominid skeletons come from there and then spread outwards to all corners of the globe. It's most likely where we're all from ancesterally.

it looks like he just converted a heightmap to a normal map which should look pretty much thesame ingame?

Nein. It muddies it because most plug-ins for normal mapping in photoshop produce edges about as sharp as pudding.

heightmap that, don't use a normalmap, evillair. The normal map will make the bricks look "muddy" and soft.

Much like the United States, the Empire is not well suited to fighting guerilla warfare. And that was only one skirmish. If there was full on Empire vs Ewoks, there would be no Yub nub, eee chop yub nub, toe meet toe pee chee keene, g'noop dock fling oh ah singing. Ewoks would get f'ing smoked.

    Dude. Ewoks. They still lost.

    How is that relevant

Because you chimed in with a "why bother we have normals" in a thread that negated their very use or at least supposed an attempted use of their renders in non-normal engines. Anyhow, back on topic?

I don't think those renders look half as good as a real, honest hand-drawn or photo-source "traditional" texture, unfortunately.

My normally sane father whipped into a frothy bout of insanity after the 2000 elections.

Dad before elections: progressive, interested in learning, Christian but not nuts. Reads books not from Christian Lifeway stores and used to talk to his two sons about tolerance for all people of all races, religions and sexualities.

Dad after elections: spiteful, bigoted, fundamentalist Christian who thinks that blacks, Mexicans, Vietnamese and well, anyone who isn't white is trying to destroy America. So are all the religions that aren't his. So are all the sexualities that aren't heterosexual. He doesn't read books anymore unless they're from Christian book stores. He can't talk without screaming and frothing.

What the hell happened? I want my dad back. Bizarro dad sucks.

Holy buhjesus that's nutty. Guy's got some wicked airbrush skills, it's a pity I don't like Doom 3 as a singleplayer or multiplayer experience. The tech is good and straight forward though and I dig that.

So, who would win? The Empire's Stormtroopers from the Star Wars series or history's most notorious forces from the Reich?

My take is this: If the Empire invaded Earth in the 1940s and took on Nazi Germany on its home turf it'd get stomped - but just barely.

    Reasons:

Weaponry: Stormtroopers are armed with blaster rifles and pistols. While their technology is superior they are severely wanting in accuracy and training. They couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. Nazi soldiers had rifles, submachineguns and the all-powerful mg42 (regarded as perhaps one of the finest machineguns ever made) and got at least some form of training. The Nazi snipers alone would wreak havoc on the untrained Stormtrooper hordes.

Armor: Stormtroopers have what is apparently white plastic plate armor that can't even stop laser blasts effectively, let alone physical ammunition. They lose even more points in mobility, vision and damage resistance than the Nazis who are clothed in only wool cloth uniforms and metal helmets.

Vehicles: This is where it gets tricky. While the Empire would easily destroy all Luftwaffen air support with its fast aircraft and tracking technology their turf vehicles are screwed. The AT-ATs have huge broad sides just begging for an artillery shell or well placed round from a Tiger tank. The smaller AT-STs would have an easier time but are still top heavy and dependent on a supporting force to keep them alive on the field. What about a death star though? Well if you're all for a pyrrhic victory then go ahead and blow up the Earth, no one wins and in my opinion, that's a draw.

Clones to krauts, the German forces come out on top. Your opinions?

not to crap on your hot dogs here but, if they're for quake 4 shouldn't they be devoid completely of highlights and shadows? You know, for the normal maps...

For best results in Doom3 tech you should place light shadowing and even lighter highlights (keeping in mind the placement and use of the object or texture you're making. IE: if you're making a stationary standalone object you can certainly use more highlights and shadow since the object will always be standing).

Highlights and shadow on a normal-mapped item only exist to emphasize existing shadow and light and to increase contrast on the over-all skin/texture.

That being said, nice set, Eve.
