tis kewkarse that kami won the thing, but (and no disrespect meant by this) i think the visual quality of the contest winners is rather low considering the potential of the hl2 engine. Cant say about gameplay since I havent played any of them but I still think valve should've given the community some more time so that people could get some more cool looking stuff done instead of having to rushing it.Anyway, grats to kami and mike
My map hit the limits for online play =/

pistol grip doesn't look right. Even though they vary from generation to generation of mp5k models, haven't seen a totally flat one before.

It does look very pretty.

But, performance is awful outside, breaks the limits way too much for multiplayer gaming. It is HUGE. Only way I could see it being the right size is removing all the indoor areas, or wait until hl2dm supports 32 players.

If you want a screen to look good, turn anti alias, ansiotropic and res high, don't photoshop or edit it in any way. It makes you look bad as a mapper.

a remake isn't a copy why don't you think about my example?
Laws for game copywrights and music aren't the same.

yes. but i can't see any problem with that regarding this contest and its rules.btw@ kleinluka concerning your post and person:
if this would be true it would be also illegal to take a picture from a building and making a original texture out of it because you aren't the architect of the building, etc.
i would like to hear some opinions from guys wich know what they are talking about in this situation.
There is a difference between taking a photo and copying someone elses layout and STATING you copied it. If you want to argue all day with us and live in denial, go for it.

Fact is, you said it was a blood remake. Either change that our redesign the map.

Section 9
"9. General. By submitting a Contest Entry, each Entrant warrants and represents that the Contest Entry was created solely by the Entrant(s) submitting it and that the Contest Entry is original."
Copying a layout of someone elses map is a no no.

That is sort of what I thought when I first saw the map. I remember a lot of cool HL maps where it was just detail stuff, but of course those maps were meant for detail and not for playing. I would have been really surprised if this played well. Damn it looks really really nice, and I am sure there a some simple changes/tweaks he could do that could make it all play a whole lot better.
Suchs that its not more circular, if he just would break up the traincars a bit more and tweak the buildings a bit more and make the map more condense then I am sure this could be a number 1 map.
You kinda desribed starting over =(

It looks amazing, but I'm not so sure about layout. You have to work a lot to get anywhere. Hope it plays well for him

It's not really a matter of "they have no talent" as much as it is you guys just don't like that style of music. I don't either. But take away all the digital post-preduction studio enhancements and tell them to sing without having to dance at the same time, and you'll find that they can sing well. Maybe not as well as someone extremely vocally talented, like Celine Dion or those three tenor guys for instance, but well enough for them to have gotten into the music industry. Most of them lip sync only because they have to dance at the same time. It's super hard to do and have it sound good. Why do you think the CD version sounds better than the live version? Because they didn't have to dance in the studio during the recording. But then, by chance one night, the show screws up due to some sound system error and suddenly they're the worst, most talentless singer in the world.
I dislike the teen pop style of music as much as the next guy here, but I'll bet that given the chance and the right setting, most of the teen pop singers could sing better than most of the singers you guys listen to.

All that aside, those vids are fuuny.

They shouldn't even do a live appearence then. Thats what is pissing people off. They coming into there form of entertainment and runing it with crappy singing.

looks neat, but those red lights just seem to clash badly imo. Also might be fun to try some slightly green/blue lights in areas. When a map has all the same lighting color, it seems kinda drab.
Except for the red, I am not a fan of that

Looking good. But looks like there is lotsa detail in the outside areas and filled with railings so its hard to spot enemies. Also looks hard to navigate around some parts like the rubble. In hldm there used to be tiny clipbrushes evrywhere so u would never get stuck walking backwards thru the map.If its koth gameplay then u should make the guy on top very hard to defeat. Ppl love whore spots, just make them hard to get to, but dont balance them out trying to make it fair or ull get a boring map.
I've been clipping every thing off. Not really any stick spots. The top is fun to whore, but once a few ppl get pissed and target him, he goes down fast. I also added a trap to electrify the top, but you can only do it once every 2 min.
EDIT: I'm trying to get a new version today before I head to work, and then post ip on steamforums. I got my friend to lend me a 16 player server in TX.

nice pics dude. is it just me or does the map seem really big?
It was, I really scaled it down though in my latest build, just didn't take pics
(thanks wacko)Had a playtest with 10 people, was some awesome slaughter. More gunplay than most dm maps, but you could own it up with physics as well. I went on a rampage with the green couch for about 20 kills before I died. The firefights can get intense in the area where the overpass is collapsed. Having 4 people all shooting smg's and rockets going off, Crossbows zinging, its quite action packed. I'd say minimum to make it fun is 4.
I've played 1vs1 and we still found each other quite often. I'm gonna guess most you wanna do is 14-16. I will eventually try it and see what happens.
My next build I'll post the link and IP for playing it in my thread. I just need to get my buddy SilentSound to up the player limit for me then change to newer version map.
I guess to describe the gameplay is sorta king of the hill. There is the RPG on the top roof, 357 on lower one. Crossbow in dumpster, and dupes of most weapons lying around under neath the city. You can stay up top a while, but with enough people you go down fairly fast. There also isn't really any place to hide perfectly up top. Explosions will reach you. The balance between moving around and being allowed to pick an area to camp is good imo. Nothing can be overly whored with some changes I made. You are not impossible to kill anywhere.
BTW, trying to work on fade scales sucks. So boring.
