i keep full albums on my hd but create playlists for favorites. my collection isnt that big in filesize so there is no need to get rid of any unheard songs. you never know.

if i only like single tracks from a certain band i throw them all in a "RANDOM - bandname" folder. easy to navigate

dunno what you guys expect but i find this incredibly detailed considering the scale they are going for.

especially the shadowing in some of the interior areas was surprisingly good. dunno if its prebaked or a different technique but compared to its predecessors its pretty damn impressive.

when i said out of date i didnt refer to the resolution of textures, polygon counts or lighting quality but the visual style, their architecture, the ornaments and everything else that defines the look of their fictional world. its quality work and very unique. i love the effort they put into creating a unique world and experience. a lot of games these days just do some fantasy look that has been done before or do real world stuff. what i really mean though is that the whole look of GoW starts to look a bit "old fashioned" after just a few months after release. maybe they went to far and most of their assets are just too similar in their visual appearance so that the look starts to feel worn out too quickly. not sure since i didnt finish the game.

its just my personal opinion anyway. its just that whenever i look at an area ingame i feel like i have seen it before in some similar place.

i agree with bioshock not being perfect in that regard either but it just feels more authentic to me

i cant check out the map cuz my laptop wont run anything newer then source engine but judging from the shots it looks decent. i am just surprised how soon the gears of war style and look started to look out of date though. i guess the biggest problem is that there isnt enough visual connection to real life like everyday products. its something bioshock did a lot better with loads of models of stuff just laying around, cigarettes, booze, tools, magazines and stuff.

ah well thats not your fault though. that was more of a rant about GoW in general. the map looks nicely crafted

    nice read, frie.

i never read reviews on any of the corporate sites. metacritic sure is a nice indicator if you dont trust your source of reviews but if i'm genuinely interested in a game i will try it out no matter the scores. kane and lynch got average reviews but i really like the setting and characters (and even tho previous io games had their deficiencies they were all good games).

i surely can imagine reading a review of a game that has ads scattered all over the page leaves a strange impression. and firing a guy over a bad review cuz of an ad deal is just wrong. but if that was really the case remains to be seen - no need to point fingers before people know what really happened

Most of it, apart from some textures are collaborative work though. For example I designed a lot of those environments initially and Henning would do some textures and models for it.

obviously, like its done at most companies. i could probably add a proper statement about that though

never heard anything about etqw sales.. are there any numbers available?

    hey everyone.

i've been pretty quiet lately as i'm currently applying for industrial design studies but i managed to get my new website done.

it features some stuff i did for etqw. threw some old stuff out and cleaned everything up. its also a lot easier for me to add new stuff now. hope you like it.

i know the url still sucks, plan to get a new one at some point.

let me know if you experience any bugs besides lousy ie(6-) support. i'm by no means a good coder but i'm quite happy with the results. thanks goes out to peter boehme and stellan johannson for feedback on the site.

i know a pimping thread without pics sucks but they're all right there on the frontpage of the new site ;P

here's some more pictures that might help you get on the right track:

this looks a bit crappy but shows the basic approach when you want to sculpt cliffs.

theres some nice technical trickery to get sharp edges onto rock cliffs like chamfering edges on a "messy" rock model (like shown here http://www.valent.us/tutorial/RockwallGiantTut.jpg ) or using flatten in your sculpting package of choice.

it all comes down to you knowing what type of rock you want and how its gonna be used ingame.
