Did a quick google search on what engine exactly it's using (something based on the Serious Engine from Serious Sam), but apparantly there's also a remake/sequel that is build on Unreal Engine 3. That may be of any interest to you?

    Looking great, mr.P!

I'm not sure about the fog. The more I look at it, the more I wonder if it looks "right"

Could be the pics maybe, but just behind the map the fog turns into a solid wall (are you using it for VIS blocking perhaps?). I think it'd look better if you could see some distant objects through it. Either by increasing maxdistance or by throwing some silhouettes at the horizon in some places (ie: pic below)

Oh, and those red lights on the crane tower/telecom pole are a bit weak from a distance.

    Looking forward to more progress

what do you suggest? should i change the background, or the color of the text or change the font?

I tried giving it a white grayish drop shadow it made it pop some more.

Load it up on a preview_model and see how it currenly looks. I'd also suggest a more readable font

Can someone make a dds file out of this image so I can test whether my GIMP is gimped or I'm just being completely blind/dumb with this overview.

If you have PS download the DDS plugin. If you don't, search for DirectX Texture Tool and load your radar as a TGA and save it as a DDS. See if that helps.

Also, I've had something similar before (probably just made an error somewhere in the proces) and the only way to fix it was doing it all again from scratch (taking the overview ingame etc). When it's not lining up properly from the first time, it's really hard to fix it.

I'm stilling struggling with the radar. Anyone know how to get the correct values for the text file?

Once you've taken the screenshot you're gonna use make sure you stay in the same position and write down the values for scale, pos_x and pos_y.

I think you need to save VTF as anistropic

Gave that a try, but didn't see a noticable difference. And I'd rather fix it in PS first, as the texture is currently 1024*1024. Want to scale it down to 512*512 when it's finished.

Here's what it looks like in PS (300% zoom):

Do we have a list of the MapCore skins that have made it in? Looks like Pulse is back in this set?

At first glance, Thurnip's Pulse SG 553 and OniLoLz' AUG Chameleonaire is in. Congratz!

To stop Hammer from resetting your video config do the following:

    • Open up CSGO and set your video settings.
    • Go to /csgo/cfg/ and look for the file video.txt
    • Set this file to read-only
    • Voila!

Thanks! I always have to change my resolution after starting CSGO as it always changes it back. This should fix it

The scaffolding (both the metal framework and the wooden planks) are models. Just search in the model browser for something like "scaffold" and it's there. It's only 4 models total and you basically can make whatever kind of scaffolding you need with them.

yeah just rename the dds/txt and the text in the txt file and pak them. Should work fine. Just make sure you have the path set to resource/overviews in pakrat, it may default to the entire directory path.

Yep, Pakrat has a habbit of not adding the correct relative path for overviews by default.

Haven't found it either, but since Arms Race is set up server-side, my guess is that it applies to Demolition too (with a func_bomb_target in the map off course).

    From VDC:

    Quote

Enabling the gamemode Arms Race is a server-side setting toggled by setting the "game_type" command to 1. To properly test your Arms Race map, include "+game_type=1" in the launch options before compiling and running the map.

also, anyone know if its possible to add custom player and weapon skins to a level?

This is just a guess, but if you'd define a custom player model in the .kv file and make sure everything is pakratted, it might work?

Also, there is a grey SAS model, it's just not used in official content:

The balcony seems akward, because it doesn't have a decent support. While a construction like that would be perfectly possible in real life, it would be much more believable if you added some matching support to it.

Shadows on the right side are pretty dark. If it's in a spot with high traffic (the crate seems like a piece of cover), be sure to pay attention to readability. For example, making the wall behind the crate lighter (or a decal with paint could do the job too), or tweak lighting in the spot.

The curved corner right next to the B spot sign could use a smooth group.

    [Blocked Image: http://static.mapcore.org/uploads/monthly_02_2014/post-31085-0-29032100-1391879280.jpg]

The plants on the left side don't really have a base to grow in, which make them look artificial. Add a decal with dirt or something underneath them.

    [Blocked Image: http://static.mapcore.org/uploads/monthly_02_2014/post-31085-0-75352600-1391879292.jpg]

The wall in the center looks a bit bland. Add some dirt, posters, plants, ... to it to break it up.

The floor is pretty flat. If it's not already displacement, turn it onto displacements and add very small deviations.

    [Blocked Image: http://static.mapcore.org/uploads/monthly_02_2014/post-31085-0-82474400-1391879296.jpg]

The awning/porch roof to the right lacks a sense of good construction. I'd suggest turning the bottom side into a wooden texture and adding some extra support to it, so it makes sense (roof tiles can't stay in place by themselver ). That blue plaster wall corner could use a smoothing group as well, it'll look a lot better.

    [Blocked Image: http://static.mapcore.org/uploads/monthly_02_2014/post-31085-0-05035300-1391879311.jpg]

Same thing as in picture 3, that white wall is a littel bit bare. Could use some stuff to break it up (ie: windows, support beams, vines, cracks, dirt, ... ). The benches on the right look a little out of place, there are some stock better ones that would fit the scene better.

Some of the wall textures don't fit together (especially the dark brownes in the back and the brick ones which have an industrial theme to them in the way you used them).

    [Blocked Image: http://static.mapcore.org/uploads/monthly_02_2014/post-31085-0-66378500-1391879314.jpg]

The tunnel is quite bare. Add some trims to make it more interesting. Take into account player readability too, it's a bit dark now. Adding a light source to it will not only improve readability, but also will draw players' attention to it (I assume it's a route or is the SUV blocking the path?).

For the balcony, same as before, add some support to it and perhaps move the window/door above it a little bit down, so it looks like it's a doorway to the balcony.

Lastly, the map could greatly benefit from a nice 3D skybox. It'll make the transition to the lowres 2D skybox a lot smoother, as it is now kinda abruptly (?).

I hope any of this was helpfull, keep at it!

You don't come across a lot of decent skyboxes often, so it's always nice to have more to choose from
