Good call on making this topic btw :) I actually started making a .doc file a while ago about useful CSGO links/tutorials/whatever, but I got busy with other stuff.

Anyway, I'll be posting here whenever I come up with new stuff that could potentially be helpful to anyone.

WarOwl video about player perspective and angles, which is pretty much a must-see for every CSGO level designer out there imo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5e8HZqF3cyk

AlexG (worldofleveldesign.com) about CSGO layout design:

How to design gameplay map layouts

6 principles of choke point level design

From top down layout to BSP block-in workflow

More from AlexG about CSGO on worldofleveldesign.com: http://www.worldofleveldesign.com/categories/cat_csgo.php (covering Getting started/Basics, Gameplay/Map functionality).

@Squad It is your duty to write such an article. I'm sure you have plenty of time seeing as you can't take part in this competition

yeah, because I'm not working on anything atm :D

    Thanks, Vilham :)

I used a ton of references. I can surely post some of them, but it would help if you said what kind of stuff you are looking for. References for general areas? References for how to "dress up" parts of the map? Quite some areas in the map are based on existing places, but they're from all around the world. Maybe I could write a "making of" article about it if there's some interest for that?

I would love for Assassination to return, really had a lot of fun with it back in the 1.6 days.

It might be worth to evaluate the gamemode as a whole to make it more viable for casual (and comeptitive?) play. Who knows maybe more than one escape zone works better? What kind of weapon should the VIP get (maybe even map dependant)? Can he buy grenades? ...

Can't think of any other as_ map other than Oilrig. What other as_ maps existed way back?

No megabump then, didn't notice your post until now :D

Thanks! Feel free to share any smokes or flashes you discover :)

    M-m-m-megabump!

Got an extra smoke and some pop flashes.

This smoke should work very well in combination with the balcony smoke to get into B real quick.

I don't know how much of this anyone might know, or are at liberty to say, but I have a question...

Is it imperative for maps to have custom content to be included in the operations, or is it more the case that the people capable of creating custom content are just that much better, that they could create a map using stock assets and still be chosen for an operation?

I'm sure there's an FAQ somewhere regarding this, but not one I can find. It's just that every time a new operation lands I have a pang of motivation to fire up the bellows again. I'm under no illusion that my map will probably never be operation ready, but I want it to match the criteria as closely as possible as best practice for future projects.

    Thanks

Here's a link where Valve gives some insight in how maps are chosen.

PS: there's this dickhead posting threads on Reddit claiming he made Zoo. If you see him, feel free to report him. His posts get reported, but he seem to repost again with the same topic name: Hello, I am Tim Eberardo, creator of the map de_zoo. Here are some of the calls, secrets, and hidden locations in my map.
