looks mighty realistic, i like it.
not fake hallways, realistic architecture, something i'm noticing in many maps is bogus realism in terms of layout.
but then again, usually realistic layout isn't as fun to play as unrealistic.
just keep that in mind.
Quote from RDterry schiavo was imprisoned in her own body. B cre@tive

well df
i could create you an example layout of a jail, i've been in a few.
hmm....
a prison or a jail? prisons are much bigger and more secure, jails are pretty small but they don't look like all bars etc anymore in america usually. they are more sofisticated.
pz.
wtf i want one sounds occupying.
yeah you guys definetly need a clear overhead.
for example, draw a layout of the map (top down) then mark numbers on it where key architecture features are and special events and areas.
for example
point 1- In this area it is a cylinderic area with stairs going down both sides of the wall to form a platform at the top. The stairs and the platform should go along the wall to form a half circle form. in the center of the half circle (between the base of the stairs on both sides) is a pillar with 4 head statues on each side of the pillar. look at for concept. across from the cylinder room is 2 tunnels comming in that lead to other areas. Since we are doing a stone/ancient complex make sure it smooths into the area with loose bricks and destroyed rubble. At the top of the platform is a spawn point for the flame thrower with some ammo for it lining the walls behind the spawn point.
basically, if you guys had everything planned out for the map
ie
Map type - DM
our general feel - stone ancient medieval castle theme
layout flow - double loop with a centeral point of combat in the center of where the loops meet.
etc.
Concept sketchings
basically complete a solid form of the map before you begin
and i mean SOLID a good thing to do to make sure everyone is on the same page is to create a little history of the place you are making. For example "This place was used by ancient Skarj as a battle proving ground before ascending in rank throughout their tribe. THe place is long and abandoned with the increases in technology the skarj are using now. Left alone for a long time the complex has succomed to weather and decay." - etc.
Once you have this down, and you guys thuroughly decide what you want to do (and be realistic about your deadline as well) you go at the map full swing everyone knowing what has to be made.
for the bsp creation, lets say this map is a double loop and the loops connect at one center point.
Since it is your project i'd take Center point and loop side 1 and give your other guy loop 2. For your prefab person i would make a sketch of every object you want custom made and tell how it will interact with the world in the design document.
hmm
i'll think of more to do later

i'm schizophrenic
so i know what its like to be in a homicidal state of mind and it is not pretty, your parents can have all the lecutres in the world my mom did an excellent job, no one ever picked on me and i was never felt left out yet i STILL felt homicidal and had a hatred for people.
now, i know i shouldn't access a gun, and i'm diagnosed schizophrenic so i cannot buy one if i tried (luckily gun laws are at least that good).
i don't want to ever hold a gun because i don't know if i would be able to handle myself.
its just something that you can't pin point the cause on, at all.
its not hte parents, the parents could've talked and raised good like the colombine kids parent's did.
it will always remain squarely on the person and how their luck of chance they perceived the world in a horrible way where they would want to kill someone.
period.

watch him pop up and say "APRIL FOOLS MUTHA FUCKAS!!!"
how i learned
- i didn't have the internet
i refered to the manual and its tutorials
then i clicked, trial and error all over the place
it took me a while to get the hang of everything and i didn't start showing signs of talent until about 2002, and i started in 1996, but i didn't start taking it seriously until about 2000.
It takes time and dedication, you need to ask yourself, just how much of your life are you willing to throw away for this? It has lead me to a job in the industry, and i couldn't be happier. But it was a very long journey, full of ups and downs, insults, arguments, harsh critique and some depression.
not everyone follows this same path, but from my experience i can tell you its worth it.
just read the manuals, find tutorials on the interweb, then ask questions if you are still lost. A lot of us are annoyed by the constant questions like "how do i make a ladder?" when there are plenty of resources out there for it.
so if you find yourself insulted or shunned, don't take it personally, most of the time to us you showing no effort to us makes us believe you aren't serious so we don't take you seriously. If you are stuck on a tutorial for example and don't understand something, we are more likeley to help you out with your problem then if you didn't make any effort to learn on your own.
happy mapping!
