    start - control panel - switch to category view - performance and maintenence - administrative tools - services - scroll down to messenger service - properties - stop and set the startup type to disabled

    hmm thats weird reno, i can run fear really smoothly at maximum 1024x768. sometimes it stutters at unimportant places but never during combat or anything. on the other hand, when i ran the bf2 demo at maximum 1024x768 it ran good but every once in a while i would get these huge lag spikes, it was a bitch because sometimes it happened during combat.
