A map called crate factory! Brilliant gets my vote

Seriously I like your work, often here at mapcore it seems like everyone crits your web development skills rather than level design/art I got a job with a simple white page and 5 pictures Youtube videos are a great touch, we don't usually have much time to download peoples maps and try them first hand

    Quote from e-freak

There are basically two main distinctions:A) Level Design - Gameplay and Scripts. The Level Designer sets a given area corresponding and within the rules of the Game Design and makes sure he pushes the concept of that to the top.

    B) Level/Enivroment Artist - Look and Feel. The Artist sets the eviroment to life. He gives sense and "real" background to the theoretical and "abstract" world the Designer created.

I do the first, but I give allot of feedback/ideas to the artists and general direction of what I'm trying to do at any particular time. We also have some people dedicated to "Beautifying" levels, their primary focus is just like your video, adding all the little details and composing the art in the scene. I'd recommend getting some basic 3d modeling/2d textrue knowledge for either design or art, you'll need it at some point

In answer to your question about "knowing the tools" I use just about every major part of Sandbox toolset to make levels, I don't really need to use tools outside of sandbox editor. Basically I build a level that can be played from start to finish with all events/cinematics/pacing blocked out roughly allowing people that are more specifialized to get into the gritty little details.

Can take this to a PM if you want, doesnt really belong here I guess

Yup Crytek do Internships, you obiously don't need much experience for that, not industry just a keen talent and all that stuff Knowing the tools is a huge plus of course.

In terms of standard employment it's pretty common to get a job even though you don't meet ALL the criteria, even more so when it comes to visual skills. Some relatively unexperienced people blow the experienced lazy ones out the water Your portfolio often speaks for itself. If your good and a project needs your skills theres a good chance you'd get hired as an Internet/Junior etc

If you're 17 I can safely say by the time you're looking for full time work you shouldnt have much of a problem, if you keep it up

if you're happy to be a level beatification artist then judging from this work it looks like you're ready

It's more about the availability of jobs than anything else, keep an eye out on the website, if you see something there jump at it

If you want cliff sections, make two or threee basic large cliff models and overlap/rotate/scale them slightly differently. Works a treat If you really want to go to town make a few large rocks and add them in too.

No matter how much I love Dragon Age I completed Mass Effect 6 or 7 times (lost count) although Mass Effect is a mixture of every scifi film/production I've ever seen with a cool story it's more original to me than Dragon Age (environments, characters and even story tbh)

Both games are borderline godness to me though, one day hope I work for Bioware ;P
