Yep I got my first job thanks to Evert hosting something like 10 pictures on a colored page

That being said, since it's so easy now to make a nice portfolios using tons of free websites and templates your kind of stupid to not do it. As for if it makes a difference, yes but not as much as people assume. You're work and content matters far more.

Thanks for the feedback! We'll bump it up, and hope it will also be fixed with the hack we got for gamma correction, since Unity doesn't have that atm.Lighting this has been a very hard process since on some monitors, it looks really dark, others have it just perfect (like, you can actually make out the individual things in a bookshelf, but if say a book was open, you wouldn't make out the text), and others again make it look like its daytime in the house and everything looks kinda washed out. But we will definitely work on it and post some brighter screens. We are currently working on a deadline (a little over 2h now) for The Gathering's (lan party in norway) game dev competiton. The response when looking on a good monitor has at least been great so far, so I hope to show it off better and make it look as best we can ^,^

    Edit:

You can try it out now that we have presented it on the compo at The Gathering: http://%7boption%7d

The key to solving that is to use high contrast lighting, make sure you have some really bright lights so no matter what monitor you have the important areas are lit, then settle for somewhere in-between for the ambient ... think doom3 - it's looking great btw

when it comes to brightness even in horror games, it's better to be on the safe side than completely ruin the experience.

A little tip, it's easier to make out what's going on if you treat a map in stages, start with geometry and apply white (gray, pink, woteveryouwant) colours rather than quickly set-up UV's that make the scene look messy ...

once you're happy with the geometry scale, shapes and detail you can then texture the scene

The robots they are using in Japan to get more information of the nuclear leak are using a (standard games console), unreal might be a good choice since the sdk is free.

Printing out technical info from an engine isn't that hard

    Hey welcome!

The ceiling is a bit flat, it's the single part of a corridor you can usually do the most with artistically ... but the actual geometry looks very cool indeed keep it up

Oh very nice, It defo looks like Unreal Engine to me, it's very _smootly_ rendered, the biggest give away!

the rocks material setup just seems out of place ... the water looks very cartoony, the rocks are too dark - just needs a little tweaking to get it all to gel together.

Oh and I hate DoF with passion ;P

Personally I think 60 bucks is double the price a game should be these days, just released or not. I've never bought a full priced game for my PS3 or 360 ...

Damn. I hope no one ever shits on a game any of you spend 2-3 years of your life on as hardcore as you guys have in this thread.

you soon learn to live with it, as the majority of problems are not your making. Even being one of the considered core team members you only make a small number of decisions, so it's quite easy to not take it personally. Unless as a level designer somebody directly bashes your map as being dreadful ;P It's even easier to swollow f you agree with the comments, and 90% of them in this thread I do ... of course the only way to do anything about it now is the next game you make!

Yeah the lighting vibrancy and general "everywhereness" (lol) certainly detracts a little if this was an actual playable level, although by the looks of it this is an artistic showcase so no real harm done, it's beautiful
