A part of being professional is to design within the boundaries of your genre and target audience. Some people push the boundaries a little further than others though. If you want to spice up your professional portfolio I would simply go and work on different types of games, there's always so much to learn! Indy development doesnt solve the problem much either, your stuck with having to deal with tiny scoped projects which at least for me at this point would be even more frustrating than the alternative.

Yup in Crysis 2 for example, we didn't build most things to scale, just what worked for game play and felt good visually.

I went to Berlin last year, nice city, maps looking good too!

It's just a big complex board game, that's super addictive

I would get it when it's on sale, I picked it up recently for 10- euros. Civ 4 I played to death so it was a safe purchase.

It's not just the studio or developer though. "Weird" games like Dear Esther or Journey aren't going to be made by large teams unless commercial viability is guaranteed. With the dev costs for AAA games, it's no wonder that progress is in steps (e.g. adding and removing weapons and levels in each CoD), but it's frustrating for people who want to progress in leaps instead.

Yeah, kinda the point about small teams, if you don't want the game to be a huge collection of everyone's ideas and dreams then it's all good. There is absolutely nothing wrong with people making something completely different and exciting. My problem, like MIno is the activist type who truly believe the industry is a corrupt mess

The only thing I dislike about Indy development and attitudes, is the belief they have, that you can't make the game you want with an AAA developer. I'm sure quite allot of the time that's the case, but you can move to other developer. If you don't like making games with big teams that's fine though, at least I can understand it

    I agree with mino,

does anyone know if there's a mod to lock the age? Would be cool to just play fixed age without all the research and progression.
