my question is whats the point the cs:cs leak was worthless anyways because anytime valve updated the damn thing you could not play it anymore. On top of that you could only play the damnthing on cracked servers which tend to be lame ass anyway. So i mean if the beta is leaked I really don't give a shit because its not worth the D/L anyway

what I don't get is my machine is not much better then any of the previous. Only a AMD 64 3200+ and a 6800GT and thats not much different/better then urbans or mazy's machine. I think that 3DMark is a bogus way to benchmark thing because what gets me is that the first demo is not in my opinion as dense and poly intensive as doom 3 and i can run that at full everything with 45+ framerate. Yet in that first demo my Avg FPS was like 13 FPS. So i don't think its a great way to gage things

there is a tool that you can use http://www.rage3d.com is site that has a lot of ATI tools and such I would also look into the Omega drivers which have a tool that allows you to change that.

thats the thing there shoudl be no reason for 5 lights to get a room lite up. Then again can't you have the actual glass itself for the window have some light ?? or create a new shader that refelcts the light in a better way ?

I am in saying my time in the doom 3 editor. I see some issues with the dynamicness( I don't think thats ever a word) of the lights in the sence that they seem to have issue with lighting and area up if it has any sort of protruding edge.. it just cuts the light off right there. I can show an example of this if needed... Then again I don't know anything about mapping.

the second group of picks is a great example of where doom 3 lighting has some issues. where its hard to have softlight effect where its not dark and its not all lighten up its just in the middle. I do not think you should have to spend a lot of time with lighting. I mean I think one should focus more on the map...

Another thing lighting has some wierd issues with is Shaders... Section_Ei8ht try making water in the game and then putting a light on it and then you will get some wierd ass shit.

the sad thing about doom 3 lighting is that to get it to the point where the light in the room is bright enough you end up using like 12 lights LOL... The issue I think is the fact that Doom 3 is naturally a dark game and the lighting effects refelect that in the game and the editor.. I found myself going back and editing some of the lights in notepad to get what I wanted.

On top of that the lights do not work well with edges. for example in the image of the map above anything that sticks out past something will be dark... with almost no light at all. The light could be the brightest you could get it and it will be black and this is an issue even in Doom 3... The lighting in the game is good, but it as some overall enviorment lighting issues where the light does not cast into areas it should. So to fix that mappers just keep adding more lights and I think that causes more issues. I mean In HL we could put maybe 3 lights in a room and it would be alive... in Doom 3 the avg amount of lights per room was something like 6 or more... I don't think it should have to be that way.

  • August YTD PC sales numbers

well you have to remeber this doom 3 was vastly much more popular in the UK then it was in the US suprisingly enough. Activision numbers show that it sold more units there then it did in the US. Stilling being the number one game in france, aus, and germany. I think these numbers are not really accuratly saying how good doom 3 did.

This report does not account for those sales and on top of that it was projected that in 2005 activision could reach a 1 billion dollar revenue largely due to the sales fo doom 3. So i think those numbers are misleading, because they do not show the numbers as a hole, and for those of you who think a billions dollars for a publishing company is no sweat LOL... this last quarter activision only had 216 million dollars in revenue and with 4 quarters and this is assuming that based on past trends they do not take a hit during the spring time( which they normally do seeing as in the past 3 years they have had renevue for q4 at about 112 million bucks) then it only amounts to about 864 million dollars revenue for the year, so a billion dollars is a pretty big milestone and those sales are pretty much being projected based on doom 3 sales along with a view other titles that have been annouced. This is of course world wide.
