Please change that Godawful default HL1 city background. There are so many better ones out there.

What has levellord done again? Pretty much everyone I've worked with from the guildhall has been pathetic. We had a bunch of testers from there for a short while who were just horrible. We had a few guys involved in our SDK that could not level design to save their lives. We have a couple programmers who so far have been completely disapointing.

Levelord designed a great deal of Duke Nukem 3D's levels, he's a legend.

That doesn't make the Guildhall infallible though. You can't create talent, only nurture it. Have these disappointments come through the Gearbox COGS scheme?

Hey man, suggestion for your next texture release: Please have the textures in .VTF format and also make sure you add .VMT's to all the textures. TGA format does not work with HL2.

Ah I think he knows, he's offering these up for any game but just used HL2 as an example.

Way to short to say much about it except that it was far from impressing. Its wierd that they don't let out more media than this. I can only see about 2 reasons:

    - They are far from done with the game

    - The visuals are not worth showing

Or they don't want to spoil new stuff? I pretty much ruined a lot of HL2 for myself by playing the leak and reading copious magazine scans; I want the Aftermath experience to be a more ambigeous enterprise on my part.

And I think the animations look fine. However, if Alyx stomps on every unscripted ragdoll antlion like that, I'll be suprised and impressed.

But this all boils down to the expansion pack disccussion. The original game sets so much for the expansion pack, I mean, I don't think any of you would be thinking OPforce was so good if HL wasn't so good.I know I wouldn't love Frozen Throne so much if I didn't love WC3, so I'm guessing that the Aftermath expansion is going to be as exciting as bleeding eyes, the more I think back to HL2 the more I think that there was absolutely NOTHING great about the game itself, the engine with all it's doodads is very impressive, more so than Doom3, but story was bland as a tall drink of water from a pint. So what more is Aftermath going to give us? More of the uuh.. so good mediocrity that blends to the surroundings, no thanks, I got better things to do.

Uhuh, but then if like me you think HL2 was great...

    Other side of the coin.

I dunno, I quite liked it. It doesn't really show much of the visuals, but certainly nothing to suggest it won't be up to HL2 quality.

At least time they're showing custom cutscenes, voice acting and the Stalkers now having a proper role.

I don't think it'll disappoint, really. As long as they at least attempt to improve on HL2's flaws.

Yeah after thinking it thru this day. I'll start the school this year..There are so many things happening in my life at the moment. Happy things for me. I've found the girl of my life and this school affects a bit to that situation. It's a bit confusing situation to me but everything will go great... I hope.

I need to get apartment and stuff. The school starts in 2 weeks. I don't have much time here... better get things rolling asap.

Wish me luck, I'm DAMN excited to start it. 3D-arts, photography, drawing, photoshop etc. 4 years of this goodness...

You'll make everthing fall into place... you're skdr!

Aye, you can't change the models once they're inside hammer. So if you wanted decals on it, you'd have to make another model. So if you had say, a washing machinne and you wanted dirty, clean and a bit dirty, you'd have to either make three versions, or have them assubobjects or something (not sure if this works in source, but doable in hl). Any world geometry can have decals/alpha layers and all sorts done to it, so you now no longer need dirty/clean/a bit dirty versions of textures.

The model, a washing machine in this example, would have to be defined 3 potential skins in the .qc file. Then in Hammer you can just choose the skin.
