Wow this is really a shock. Grin was doing so good and now they release two mediocre(not in art or style) games and loads of layoffs...
What excactly happened?

Why does both suns need to be visible at the same time?
I mean, why cant there be one night-time sun and one day-time sun, and around noon only one is visible?

The first and third screenshot looks awesome, except does the infamous grill got a shadow?
The second screenshot is just too yellow, maybe mix in some other colors?
Anyways, I'd love to test this for you and provide you with more in depth feedback.

I never really understood why The French didnt want to learn English.
Then one day, 50 exchange students from france came to our school and everyone of them was lame and just sat around smoking weed all day.
Then I understood.

engine is not the same as texture color.
Besides, quake spawned a lot of mods (and half-life).

I think theres a big distinction between how Multiplayer games and Singleplayer games are released (especially indie games).
Singleplayer games, like World of Goo, are released with a short demo (a few of the first maps to get you started) and then you gotta buy the full game when you are hooked.
Multiplayer games on the other hand should not be given away for free in the beginning (just at the end after 10 years:P). The steam tactic that many here has posted with free weekends after a few weeks and the game dropping in price over time really works well for multiplayer games since those games usually spread by word of mouth like just "hey dude, come join us" on MSN/Skype. If its free (minus some goodies) when you hear that from your friends then you'll most likely just go with the free version and try to have fun with that, but If you dont have fun with the free version because it hampers you in any way when you play against your friends then you'll start disliking the game and it will just hurt your sales and rep.

To get the comparison between carmack and silverman you have to look at what they were doing when they were both making commercial games- Build engine vs Doom 2/Quake engine (Quake came out half a year after Duke3d).
...and was infinatly better.
Sorry mate, but kleins got a point. Sure he was one of the forefathers of the big 3d games biz we got now, and he could be compared to carmack during that time but he still failed later on, which in turn makes it hard to compare the two now.

looks awesome from those two small screens.
But I want to see more

Wait a second... why don't Americans look for work overseas where the situation is not so bad? Ok sure not everyone can do such a major change in their lifestyle but I find it hard to accept that all 12% are out of work. Not when so many develoeprs are hiring still. Games, Movies and TV industry are familiar with moving aboard to work on projects, it's common practice.
Yeah I think you got a point there, but the article does mention the new entrepeneurism, which indicates that the 12% maybe did find themselves a new job after getting laid off.
