Congrats on finally starting to sell the game =)

I know some people get offended by anything cash-related, but I was wondering if you guys would please be so kind as to share the amount of pre-orders sold, total, on the release date?

I'd totally understand if you'd want to keep that sort of information secret, but its incredibly useful knowledge for other start-ups to see.

Oh so its a mod? Since you introduced yourself as coming from an indie dev studio, and not like a group of home developers I immediatly figured this was a paid job, but I see now that you posted this in Non-Professional Recruitment so thats my bad

    Good luck with the recruiting!

I like how Sentura goes around bashing blizzard and saying they dont make quality games, making an ass of himself in the process because thats basically what Blizzard does best, then tries to save his ass 1 page later by redefing the word quality to mean 'innovation', only to make himself more of an ass since thats basically what every game company strives for, including Blizzard.

I mean, its okay if you don't like Blizzard for some reason (maybe you got ganked too much in diablo 2 multi player?), but saying that they are not innovative and that their games lack quality and that they are all about the money and that everyone who would even consider working there are slaves.... cmon, do you even read what you write?

Since the majority (like 99.999999999999999%) of the data that is transmitted, and the data that really has been the bottleneck thus far for such a product is the video feed, I merely made the quite logical step of believing you were thinking of the same thing as I.

If you think that transferring key press events is what would be the bottle neck or the hard-to-accomplish piece of this puzzle, then you're in for a big surprise. I mean you can literally fit that into a single tcp/ip packet.

And UDP really is worth it for games, it wouldn't even surprise me if its the number #1 protocol for games. I remember playing StarCraft over IPX, then rejoicing when they added support for both TCP/IP and UDP. (its not a type of connection, its a protocol, a protocol is more about how your packet is made up than how it is transferred). Even by reading like half a page on wikipedia you'd learn why you are coming off as someone that is digging himself deeper and deeper into explaining things away that make no sense.

I'd be more inclined to laugh with you if you were complaining about the impossibility of making something that decodes/encodes movies/video feed as quickly as he states, instead of laughing at you for thinking that its all about the protocol.

Obviously, they are using UDP for the video feed, and I'm perry sure that was what he was referring to when he answered.

They might be using something else for the user input, still no need for making their own protocol when the handshake in tcp/ip is sufficent.

    Quote from Sentura

if their whole premise is to revolutionize the way games will be played using UDP, then excuse me while i laugh some more.

Dont say you know what you're talking about, then post something like this that only shows that you still think you can make something better than UDP (Udp light) for one way transfer of a video feed. And as far as I know, they have always said that they have not revoloutionized how to play games, just how to decode a video feed for so its smaller and easier to transfer via regular protocols. Why they are targetting it for games first is a little weird and what is the most baffling to me. (Why not use this shit for everything?, why only for games?)

SnD is a good abbrevation, so is ES.. MapCore is boiled down to 'core at best, noone would use MC

Thats why MapCore is a good name imo, since it cant be boiled down to something you cant understand if you dont know what it is. If you ever hear a conversation where someone is discussing something and that name pops up you'd most likely recognize and remember the term 'mapcore', while you wouldnt remember an abbrevation like for instance SnD, and most certainly wouldnt remember what it stood for since it probably never came up in the discussion that you overheard (or even was a part of but never asked)...

Just curious, what sounds best to you.

Feel free to add/omit "Games, Entertainment or Interactive" at the end.

I'm not giving you any background story on the names on purpose since I just want to know what you think is the best without any knowledge of what they mean.

Feel free to make suggestions to new ones.

I'd like to add MapCore (Games?) to the list, but I'm not sure how that would fare copyright-wise?

edit: I added it, and if someone doesnt like it they can shoot me (pm me for address!)

    bwahhahahahaa

Why are you laughing? Did you expect them to optimize something that cant be optimized? If you didn't know, UDP just spews out packets in one direction, not caring if they get there or not. Which is basically excellent for video and audio because if a frame gets lost here and there we wouldn't notice. Theres basically no way they can improve on that simple set of logic.

I'm surprised you'd think so with a programmers education.

lol sentura, you make it sound like blizzard doesn't make new games.

For all you know, he's gonna work on their new MMO. And if he aint, then he probably gets to work on either StarCraft, Warcraft or Diablo. I don't really see how that is bad and why you gotta go around acting like you dont want to work at blizzard.
