Big fan of both myself. I'm not going to go so far as to say they're the best movies ever or anything like that because there're literally dozens of supremely fine movies I could never choose between, but they're definitely a superb pair of films. I know hype makes a lot of people feel almost obligated to hate something, but there's really not that much to criticise about them. I really enjoyed them as someone who's never particularly been a Batman fan and felt they communicated their relatively complicated plots well.

    I concur

    Wait, what?

Most norwegians load up a big truck and travel to sweden to load up on beer and vodka

Aye, I completely agree with Thrik.

The great thing about internet dating is that you are meeting girls that have the mindset of "I want to find a boyfriend here". You rarely, if ever, find girls with that mindset at bars.

Here are some simple steps you can follow d3ads.

    Either:

Get loads of money, then it'll come naturally, you dont need to do shit.

    Or:

Step 1: If you cant get loads of money then you need to spend all you earn on looking good.

Looking good means looking like everyone else and owning cool stuff. In your case that means cutting your hear and getting a shave.

The stuff doesn't have to be expensive, some new cheap clothes and perfume will do fine. Try getting a car if you dont have one.

Step 2: Find a girl and woo her with your cool personality and cool stuff.

This is the hardest part, especially without money to throw around. And it's generally easier to find chicks outside of a bar than inside it if you dont look really handsome.

    Or

Try internet dating. Worked for me

I think people should be allowed to do stuff that they think are fun as long as it doesnt hurt other people. Buying a purple hat for your TF2 character doesn't hurt anyone. And I wouldn't really go so far as to call them stupid just because they are doing what they think is funny.

Stupid is loathing people that knows how to have a good time

Why should games be different than how the rest of the world operates?

If you buy a car and want to pimp it with a omgwtfbbq stereo, why shouldn't you be allowed? Is that shameful monetization as well by the evil car-manufacturor that allows you to pimp your ride? Or are they smart to allow the owner of the car to do excactly that?

or even a simpler example. Is pimping yourself with a new hat that costs 20$ any different than pimping your ingame avatar with a hat?

If you're one of those that never goes out then your ingame hat probably gets seen more by more people, so its probably a better investment Unless ofcourse you live in a country where a hat is necessary for survival

Skjalg: what do you think of them? I'm tempted to buy one, but I've heard that the black depth is poor unless you set the contrast to 100% and them use a hardware calibrator. I can probably borrow a calibrator from work, but it's hassle

I only use them in visual studio and browsing mapcore/read mail. Everything else is banned, so its hard for me to test the thoroughly, but if I fill up mspaint with a black picture, then it looks really black. I'm loving the flip on the side functionality too, but I guess you can do that with every monitor.

    And Why stop there.

People could pimp avatars, ambient sounds or taunt sounds. Imagine playing a good game of TF2 then suddenly you get killed and the player tosses this OMFGWTFBBQ awesome sound-taunt at you.

You just gotta have that taunt too.

Cant people just pimp maps as well? Why make an entire map when you can just sell a model like "New Water Fountain -> replaces model x for official map y"

Are there robust pre-made freely available FPS frameworks anyone can use out there? Because if so, I might start doing some Unity stuff...

Yes. It all comes with Unity now (no need to even search the forums or wiki for those scripts). When you make a new project you just choose to use the Character Controller assets package.

Only Valve would do something like this and actually be able to pull it off. They think outside of the box; that's why they have Steam and a ton of now very valuable IPs. Whether you like it or not, it's the key to all of their success. I think Dota2 is another brilliant move. It's an unexploited but highly valuable IP. I don't know why neither HoN or LoL could (or would?) call their game Dota2 but appaerently Valve can. Kind of evil in a way I guess, but at the same time; both HoN and LoL where made way earlier, and if they didn't see the value in aquiring actual Dota IP name, I feel like it's their own shortcoming. The original name is always the strongest. It's like Coca Cola and Pepsi.Anyway, HoN is complex but lacks accessability. LoL is accessible, but lacks complexity. With L4D and TF2 on their belt, I think Valve can make a truly accessible multiplayer game, but can they retain the complexity and depth of Dota? Neither TF2 of L4D are complex games, and I think this will be the main obstacle for Valve.

    I couldn't agree more!

haha yeah dux, that is actually how I divide games (crudely) into two genres.

    1. The shout genre

    2. The peaceful genre.

10 Years back I absolutely loved the first genre (CS, Quake, and later on DotA), but now I almost never play a game unless it belongs to the second genre. For example, has a 2 player coop against machine, where I can just relax and enjoy myself instead of pretending im paying some elite sport.

    Valve does something crazy

    Everyone hates it on announcement

    Time goes by

Everyone praises Valve for doing it on release
