AI having cool movement and basically swarming you + really fucking responsive weapons makes the rage experience well worth the time invested.

The first thing I see when I visit your site (because i quickly switch from one tab to yours when i click the link) is this:
[Blocked Image: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1972432/first_thing_you_see.png]
The point im trying to get across here is that theres a lot of info on the screen and it all just blurs together.
Instead, the first thing I should see when I visit your site is a picture displaying your best work (I just grabbed a quick example that was not taken in a blurred/low res unreal game).
[Blocked Image: http://m.cmcdn.net/13385287/940x503.jpeg]
Because instead of guiding your visitor to your work you should be displaying your work.

alt+f4 always worked like magic for me when I wanted to exit.

...okay so your hardware sucks. Its time to think something is wrong with your hardware if you have issues with multiple games. Maybe you should go on a crusade against the hardware manufacturer instead of the game companies?
-
There are so many hardware combinations that when you target pc for launch and dont have a wide scale beta (like blizz/valve does), then you are almost bound to have a bad launch like this if you are using your own engine.
And I dont think its fair to say that if you are gonna release for the PC market that you should have a 100% working version for the PC. There are just too many different hardware/software specs around to be able to cover all your bases on release.

interestingly enough i think a lot of what they did could be achieved with good meshes and a shitload of decals. which is essentially what they have done, but then baked it all into megatextures. maybe i am missing the point somewhat but there's not a great deal of actual content, it's just reused well and covered in decals.if someone could write a decal system that wasn't a fucking hog then this kinda detail would be pretty easy to achieve and improve upon. still not 100% convinced by megatextures

But isnt that essentially what megatextures is; it is a decal system that is not a fucking hog. What you're saying is essentially true, because if you were to slap 10 or 20 decals on top of each other (like is done in rage), then that would be a memory hog deluxe because of all the blending going on. Megatextures basically just generates a premade texture for you with all of those slapped together and then uses that. Its not really that advanced once you think about it.
On a side note; after the patch I set the texture memory thing to high and now theres no texture popping and the game runs so smooth and is a blast to play

None of the other id software games had "press enter to start", nor buggy menus where the mouse will vanish because it incorrectly assumes that I'm using the 360 controller that ive plugged in. This is all because the game was made for consoles, then adapted for the mouse/keyboard.
I can fully understand the hate that alot of people feel because consoles really are ruining parts of what makes pc gaming so awesome (imo the best controller is the mouse/keyboard). Namely that everything now are being built FOR the game pad instead of FOR the mouse/keyboard). It basically means that if you are using a controller you get the INTENDED experience, whereas if you are using second ass shit like the mouse/keyboard you only get a slap-on-duct-taped-hacked experience. Personally I've always had a console, but I prefer the mouse/keyboard style gaming a lot more. Whenever I play rage I get the feeling that he menus and the like would be a lot better if they had not been built to work with consoles (because that is a severe limitation, and its a limitation that really limits the potential of the mouse/keyboard use.

How am I supposed to turbo boost with the shift key and turn right with the A key at the same time?
Are you sarcastically trollin here, or have you somehow lost a couple of your fingers? (in case you are a big nub;
baby finger = shift,
ring finger = a,
middle finger = w/s,
index finger = d,
humb = space). It uses the standard fps controls since the days of wolf3d.

There are just so many fucking annoyances in the game. the fact you can only get to the menu while you are alive is one of them. I can't even quit the game after a round ends untill the next starts and I can't seem to configure my joystick, I have a Thrustmaster T16000 and the game won't recognize any of the buttons.
They have already fixed the issue with the menu for the release.

holy shit caspian is so awesome

Yeah im gonna have to bite my words because I see texture popping as well. And its really fucking annoying. I know that in one of Carmacks talks he talks about how his entire team runs super computers because they want to save in on those seconds and minutes it takes to compile or load a map.
Well, thats a bad idea if you want your game to run great on low end pcs. I get that carmack want a challenge and solve some problem that noone else even dares to do anything about, but this is not solved yet as far as I'm concerned.
I dont think the problem is that apparent on consoles, tho, because of the technical things as was mentioned here in the thread briefly (that you can program directly to the hardware as opposed to having to deal with layers on top of layers of slow shit in order to do what you want), but also I think its mostly due to the fact that you're playing with a controller and cant turn around quickly as well

People frapsing and saying that they see texture popping is so stupid since the textures are loaded from the same hardrive that they are trying to save a bmp to every frame. No wonder its slow.
Its kind of like blaming low fps on the game you're playing while running 3dsmax, photoshop CS3, udk, unity, cryengine 3, 3 instances of visual studio and watching a replay of your favourite starcraft 2 match on youtube on your second monitor.

So I installed Origin to my game drive, which is separate from my windows drive, and separate from my storage drive (drives are cheap and plentiful). I just noticed that Battlefield 3, installed from Origin (running out of my game drive), was unbidden installed to Program Files(x86), on my windows drive. Good job EA/DICE. That is totally an appropriate call (hurr).
You can change where to put the downloaded games in the settings, but you gotta do that before you start installing them. (So your best bet is to just delete the already installed version and then reinstall at the new location if you want to change.. Its better than steam in that regards imo).
Quote from Rick_DDICE do. That is why they are all playing Caspian Border.
I dont really know what you mean by this, but I cant play Caspian Border...

I think using metro is genius. The biggest problem the Battefield-series has is that their levels are so large and hard to know where you are (especially with the new tech with stuff EVERYWHERE instead of just some landscape and a few landmarks) that new players spend HOURS just getting lost AND getting shot out of seemingly nowhere. Its only after a couple of hours of playing that you start learning the map and the paths/locations that the enemy players usually take. And with a bigger map this frustration and pain obviously only increases.
Taking into account this and the fact that what they really wanna do is lure in all those COD players with something they are used to (no vehicles), then its pretty much a smart move.
The only ones that are biting the dust are the battlefield veterans who are expecting tanks, planes and awesome stuff like that. But who cares about catering to them, they're going to play the shit out of this anyways.

Yeah that was probably a good choice. I've also removed my wisdom teeth with just local anesthesia and I thought it was kick ass hearing the bones grinding and the guy working so hard in my mouth without feeling a thing haha

Anyways, its always sad that so many people have to die before someone important gets the memo.

Laughing gas used to be used at birthings and at the dental clinics up until a few years ago when they got banned. (at least here in norway). I'm surprised that americans still use it with how america usually is.
