As much as I wish compiling were a thing of the past, until there's a truly convincing fully-dynamic solution, it's the only way to go for convincing results imo.

I'm still evaluating the engine, but so far UDK has come off much better in terms of flexibility, stability and efficiency. CE3 lacks proper implementation of it's GI and it's been pretty damn unstable for me, I also miss the shader editor and after speaking in length with one of the CE3 engine developers a while back at the Develop Awards, it sounds like they have no plans to update the engine in the future which is a shame. I really think they need to follow Epic's lead and do regular updates tbh. (even if Epic do tend to break things once in a while!)

If you want frequent updates, then I can suggest unity. Its really shaping up to be a really great engine for bigger scale projects.

What intrigued me the most was the fact that people can join your single player game and play as the infected

i am disturbed that baking lightmaps is still "a thing"

Its not really surprising when you think about all the people who still need to compile their bsp maps...

Ugg it seems to be an issue with the latest build of UDK, reverted to an earlier version and the lighting works...

I feel for you man, I hate wasting time like that too.

[Blocked Image: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/deathcrush/bm_c2a4g0003.jpg]Anyone else have this happen in Questionable Ethics? The hole in the wall model was missing when I first used the laser too.

Restarting the game made no difference, I loaded an older autosave and it was visible again, then I died and it was invisible upon reload (fuuuu.jpg). So I went through again without dying, used it and the hole appeared this time. Only bug I've had in the entire mod though, apart from a couple of random crashes.

Did you unplug the power cord at the wall right next to it?

Anyways, I'm at the questionable ethics chapter now and the end fight was fucking awesome. The music was really great there as well.

    I'm really digging this mod.

It's amazing to play an FPS where you are not interrupted by a 5min cutscene every other step!

This fucking this! It is probably what I love the most about valve. Every cinematic they make is for PR purposes only (like tf2), not to do story stuff that they cant figure out how to do in game.

Pretty sure Android is built on Linux and C. Apps can be built using the Java syntax, but the Java engine itself like you might install on a desktop computer isn't used. Similar to how web browsers nowadays all have their own Javascript engines which all use the same language. This shouldn't be a factor entering remotely into your consideration of a device IMO.

They are closer to java than you are letting on. It basically is a custom java on a linux kernel. But that in itself is not so bad. The thing that makes android such a piece of shit OS is that they dont have a dedicated UI thread, so when the java garbage collector decides to run you'll just have to wait for it to finish, fuck you if you were scrolling a list or trying to move the map in google maps or something as easy as typing, lag here I come!!

I was so in love with the open system and everything that android stands for, but I think it has really turned into a steaming pile of shit execution wise. Luckily the new windows phones such as lumia 800-900 are really great performance wise so I dont have to marry apple.

A little late to the party, installing now. Looks like the installer is taking longer time than the actual download. wtf

But I'm gonna fire this baby real soon again

Yeah I guess this opens up the possibility of creating your own steam box (and maybe selling it?).

Create a small hardware box (kind of like boxee) with a custom linux installed that has steam installed and boots steam first thing.

Then we have our steam box.
