I was wondering if any of you clever folks had set up a nice twitter follow-list with all the mapcorians who are using twitter? I think I have followed most of you, but it would be great to have an offical list that you could easily follow with just one click.

I have to agree on a darker theme. Going from http://studiostyl.es/schemes/blorange-blue-and-orange to this forum is almost blinding.

That reminds me, I have to install f.lux on this pc.

One mans garbage is another mans treasure. The Taken movies are shit IMHO.

    for real?

Whats shit about the first one? The second one I can see why some people wouldn't like it, but the first one took me by surprise as I hadn't heard anything about it before I saw it.

Ugh dont get me started on how many problems that final teleporter room gave me.

I actually had some problems in the room before, where you had 3 layers of moving platforms you had to navigate in order to hit a button. And at the bottom of the platforms there was some water. I had insane lag spikes in that room which made my fps drop to below 0 (which resulted in me dying 10 times).

The final teleporter room was fine fps wise, it was just hard as fuck

I saw Taken 2 yesterday. I say its not as good as the first, but still better than a lot of the garbage that is released these days.

    About the MeshCollider performance hit.

We noticed it on ponh when we loaded in levels we'd get a huge spike right as the progress reached 100% and it turned out it was because we used meshcolliders on everything. Then we set out to replace what we could with primitive colliders such as box colliders and cylinder and it turned out to be a hell of a lot better performance wise.

Awesome write up Warby. That must have hurt like hell for you typing that up.

I agree on all points except the last bit about unity should have shipped with this functionality as I think that would take away from the fact that unity is made to work however you like and don't force you down a path of how to make your levels.

Strange, exactly the same as mine — this is at the top of forums, right? Is there anything else going on you can think of that might be affecting this, such as using a higher font size or zoom than normal? Any other Chrome people seeing the same thing (most of us use Chrome according to the stats, lol).

Haha yeah I was at zoom level 90%.

    Weird.

Just did some digging into the templates and realised there is actually already a 'go to first unread post' button in place. Click the little blue circle/star at the beginning of the post's row and it'll do the trick.

    Ah, nice.

That sure is a terrible icon though It translates more to "bookmark/favourite this thread" in my head. The arrow that was used before was better

There is one feature I used all the time in the old version but I cant figure out how works now.

I always browsed the forum by checking the new content. Right now that same button is located at the top right "View New Content" and it gives me a list of the threads that have changed since I last visited the forum. Thats great, but there is no way for me to get to latest un-read post. I can skip to any thread page or to the very latest comment as [HP] pointed out, but I cant seem to find the "Go to latest unread post" button.

seem like we're missing skip to last page of long threads too, have to clicks many time

This is also needed for the mobile version (which otherwise look and behaves really nicely). Starting to browse the WIP thread at page one is a bit harsh

    Correct!

I've looked at unity a bit, and I noticed that they now have a node-based shader editor plug-in and a kismet-type plugin for non-coder types like me, has anyone tried them?

Im a little cautious about approaching unity as the vanilla version (minus plugins) doesnt look very artist friendly

I'm not a fan of the kismet-type plugins, but that might be because Im a coder so I dont need them and I just find them a hassle to work with

As for the shader editor plugin, I know warby made some really powerful stuff with that and was really happy with the tool. When it comes to other editor plugins you can find almost anything you need or would ever want on the unity asset store. With that being said, theres built in terrain stuff, lightmapping, lod, occlusion, path finding (navigation), particle effects, physics (that I think is used a lot in the new rovio game bad piggies?), networking etc.

When it comes to actual level design, theres the built in terrain tool that can be used, but other than that you need to model everything in your favourite 3d program and just place them in unity. Everything game play wise like a character that can walk needs to be either taken from the example scripts or from the asset store if you actually want to "play" your level.

Or you could just make a movie
