First of all, my PC specs (in short)

    AMD 2000+

    1 gig ram

Well, Ive been working on this Source map the last week and i always test small parts of the map out all the time, checking in the compile works as it should. Then suddenly ctsrad/vrad (I checked with both) suddenly crashed my computer and made it restart when it was about 99% done. This ofcourse was a problem i had to solve and i thought it had to do with the map. I had just made round towers and a mountin almost coming out of the first tower (so the tower was embedded into the cliffwall). So i figured the cliffwall had to do it, since the compile worked good when i compiled just the towers.

But that wasnt it, because when i compiled the cliffwall alone, it worked just finet oo. But putting them together on the map crashed my computer. Even if i had them separeted (no brushes touching eachother).

Well, then i thought it might be that i had fucked up somewhere and the easiest way was to just rebuild the entire thing. Afterall it wasnt that much work. And i compiled almost every hour just to catch the problem early if it was to rise again. But then suddenly it appeared again, out of the blue. But now there was nothing that was wrong and when i opened up an old build of the map that I had compiled before, it too restarted my computer.

Well, I've figured out what it was now, and its pretty funny (atleast to me now, since ive wasted my entire weekend with this problem). Im just going to let you guys try and guess what the problem is. My roomate was actually telling me from the beginning what the problem could have been, and he turned out to be correct. I was just stupid not to listen.

    So... GUESS AWAY!

If you look at a lot of the earlier screenshots of BF2 it appears to look much better than the released game. I think what happened was Dice was expecting to release an awesome game about a year from now, however EA being their publisher quickly shut that down, made the game crappier so it can run on more current machines and so they can ship it as soon as possible.

    Yeah, blame EA!!!!1one

minotauro, maybe you should just apply for a state-college or something and try to work yourself into some mod thats gonna make it for sure. + Once per week apply to a different game company over and over again 'till you get a job.

Dont let this thing get to you. All the game designers ive asked have told me that education doesnt really count. its your portfolio! Just do more work and im sure someone like UBISOFT *cough* will hire you

With that that signature you probably wont get hired

I agree with alot of stuff that is in this thread, especially the part where some of you talk about the fact that mods really need organization. It's alot of work holding huge teams together and making sure noone strays from the project and/or runs off with shit. I think the reason things are as they are today is because mod teams have learned from past mistakes.

Some of you say that this is all sad that mod teams are trying to be very professional with contracts and all that, and I agree that it has been taken a little far. I agree to the naming stuff, "Senior Project Game Development Lead Designer" is quite funny But on big projects with 20+ people and different "teams" that work together it really makes it easier if theres 1 leader and say 4 liuetenants, and all the rest has to report in to their respective one, and they report to their leader. This also ensures that the mod can go on 24/7, and not just when the leader is awake
