Ask any real game developer there is, they all say that when they envision the game they have all these kinds of ideas and how its all going to be super amazing.

Then they go ask the coders for what can actually be done and they need to cut alot.

Then as time goes by and they realize that they went over their head with the whole thing they cut more.

Then they cut more to save more time.

Then they cut even more because its too advanced, noone will play it.

    Then they cut even more.

Get the picture? Cut more, get down to the basics of what you want, and get down to something you can do with your current staff in a set timeframe. Dont go thinking you have all the time in the world, because you dont.

Your freedom of speech is right up my pale white ass. Funny story, turns out it doesn't extend to the size of your avatar.

You live up to the name, I see Funny though

Also, I just want to point out that the overzealous The Postman here hasn't actually contributed to the political discussion in this thread with his last post and since he's so harsh on us (except you Fletch... favoritism anyone?) I think he should delete his own post(s) just for good measure…

Oh and since many of the last posts by various other people also isn't on topic, maybe you should close down this thread to, while you're at it. Since this debate is clearly done now. (yes that was irony).

They probably respect islam as a religion, but the whole thing about using muhammed in drawings was probably to point out the fact that they were using their religion for a war, which in turn shows that all they ment was that they dont respect Islam (yes, their own religion).

And you state this as a fact?

    I said probably.

    Quote from Kosmo

We decided to take them in, yes.. But does that mean we gotta follow their rules? wheres their tolerance?

Again, how does respecting their religion and culture turns in to "following their rules", soon you will be telling me that "I'm either with you or against you".

    Weird extremes.

If you didnt know, this whole thing started because according to islam, its Illegal to draw Muhammed. Apperantly we broke a law, and should be punished for it.

And yes, either you're actually sympathizing with the crossburning hypocrits or you're not The time where the whole world might have to choose sides might come because of this.

I think you just poo'd on your shoe there.

First of all, if FarCry had just been a new linear boring, no good story etc etc generic FPS shooter as you say, would it be such a huge success?

Second of all, if you haven't played FarCry, your opinions don't really matter here in terms of how generic you think its going to be. (since you dont know what these guys are capable of).

I'd also like to point out that im no big fan of shooters. I used to play every game that was out there before, but I've started to get more and more reserved over the years. There's just a few games that actually stand out in my memory as good FPS games. FarCry is one of them.

RD, respect is the problem, the western artists don't respect Islam, the Muslims don't respect laws.

They probably respect islam as a religion, but the whole thing about using muhammed in drawings was probably to point out the fact that they were using their religion for a war, which in turn shows that all they ment was that they dont respect Islam (yes, their own religion).

I agree with you 100% that freedom of speech is very important. But Denmark, Holland and many other European countries decided to take in people from all religions and all cultures, where is their tolerance? Or don't Muslims count as people?

We decided to take them in, yes.. But does that mean we gotta follow their rules? wheres their tolerance?

I would say, that at this time and age, you would be wise to stay off of religious parody. Just a hint, since crazy fuckers are aiming missiles at each others, and I'm not just talking about USA/Europe vs. Middle-East situation, things aren't so great on the Pakistan-India axel either, not to mention Israel situation.

Just think of what you said here, journalists should be afraid to put their opinions in the newspapers? WW2 anyone? You act like you just want to dig a hole and hide from everything.

You could simply make a bunch of prop models that are just extruded rocks and than place those aruond randomly to give some depth. Or even take wood beams and have them extrude out of the walls some what as though they are for something inside? who knows. Tons of possiblities.

hey great idea (both of em). I'll look into it asap

    Majority rules.

Especially when it comes to terms/expression and the understanding of one word. Just think on it It doesnt matter what the word used to mean, it doesnt matter what you think it means. If the majority disagrees with you, you are wrong.

    It is, infact, that simple.

That yellow light by the fires is to yellow in my opinion, more orange will will make it look warmer and more realistic. Some of the 90 degrees edges could be just a bit rounded to look more smooth. Keep it up.

I've rounded off most edges, but as many other people mentioned i need better arcitecture inside.. I'll see if i can do something cool with wood. (Not much else to use)

    Quote from Schmung

Might want to put some damage into those forts, cannon holes or something similar. It looks a little lifeless somehow, as if it's just been put there. There don't seem to be any signs of it being used. Maybe some more variation in that stone texture? Some more apparent weathering, a bit of bird shit, that kind of thing.

Damage to the castle is out of the question, I decided that when i started to make the map, because almost all castle map that has ever been made is damaged just because it looks better. If i can make this look good undamaged, I think it would be better What i haven't put in yet is banners. Old castles had loads of them, I'll get someone to start working on it immediatly.

    Quote from von*ferret

I do not like the yellow lighting at all. Dont like the colors. Flesh out some depth in those walls with who knows....wood things coming out of them? Just try to get some depth! nice thoguh

Thanks, I'll change the lighting (since everyone seems to hate it ). Now that you guys point it out its fairly obvious that it sux. (In my defence, I used a different monitor setting when i set those values and they seemed okay at the time). I'll also work more on indoor arcitecture. But the thing is, its a fort/castle, it thrives on the simplicity of warfare. But I'll sure try to dig up some more ref's on what they might look like indoors. (Haven't check that part yet).

Thanks for all the C&C guys, expect more pictures later with nice warmer lighting
