At Quakecon they demoed all 3 versions simultaneously. The PC version really shows off the megatextures way better than the 360 version, which is what you see in all these videos.

Looks like the interact prompts are "E" in the latest vid (only watched low-res) - looks like the PC version.

This game appears to get more and more generic every time they show it. I got kind of angry when the gate dropped so the enemies could do their scripted jump in animations before the gate magically opens so another guy can somersault into the room for no good reason. Looks even slower than D3, too.

Did you try voting for more than 3, or cast one vote and then go back and try to cast more later? Those are the only two ways I can think that that'd occur (the latter as a result of not allowing users to change votes)

Insta and Soleval made me laugh but I voted for Insta which made something very efficiency and quite simple. The entry from Puddy also deserve a mention. To be honest I would rather voted for both Insta and Puddy.Great stuff guys!

You know you could have voted for all 3, right?

You can scroll through the shots by clicking left/right on the screenshot popup, or use the mousewheel. The video will also pop up after the shots if I have one

...I wish I had a better way to indicate that, though. It's super slick but not obvious.

And the Door Challenge is in the books! Results are posted here: viewtopic.php?f=57&t=16260

As always, if you have any feedback on this Challenge, speak up! Was the wider voting window better for everyone this round? Does everyone still like the "vote for your top 3" ballot?

I now get paid overtime and it is the greatest thing ever. I'm still full-time, salary, with benefits, but we're trusted to log our own hours each pay cycle (being treated like adults! imagine that!) and any hours over 40 receive full time-and-a-half pay. It means the company now has a financial interest in not crunching, but when deadlines come up and work needs to be done, you get compensated for it. Money isn't everything in life, but if you're working for free, especially if it's mandatory, you're being exploited.

Interesting that you mention that - the big header images were one of the most important things to me in the redesign... I wanted to get some big in-your-face visual elements as part of the browsing to replace the smaller thumbs I've been rolling with for the last few years.

Now to see about some more colorful stuff...

I loved the first two, was hoping to hold off on this one for a bit though (I've bought way too many games recently)... then I watched the Giant Bomb first look last night and ordered it about 2 minutes into the video. It'll be here tomorrow. Can't wait

It was introduced in a semi-recent SDK update... no idea what happened, or if they've even been able to fix it since then. (I'll re-bug my man on the inside )

Do you have a 360 controller plugged in? Check that or other input devices; unplugging my controller fixed it.

I'm in for both of them but... please wait June 17th, I have to work on my end of year project before this day

Right now I'm thinking the mini-challenge (if we do it) would take place June 3rd to 5th, and the Portal 2 pack would run June 17th to July 17th.

Door Challenge voting is up! viewtopic.php?f=57&t=16237 Great work, everyone And major props to generalvivi for helping put this together; I can't speak from experience, but it looks like this was a fun one!

So, two things. I'd like to try one of the old-school weekend challenges in about 2 weeks if any of you guys are interested. I was thinking we could put together a list of HL1DM themes (Xen, Surface Tension, Lab styles, etc. or maybe bust out the Nightwatch textures or something) then draw one out of a hat at the start of the challenge. I was thinking it could run Friday/Saturday and we could get together and play the levels on Sunday. Anyone in? We don't even need a big crew for these small ones - just 4-5 guys cranking out levels could be a good time.

Second, if we want to go with a Portal 2 round that turns into a MapCore community pack, I think we should put a little more advance planning into it - give people time to prepare, figure out how to arrange the levels and link them together (if we do), etc. How do we decide ordering, any level-to-level progression, etc. I know some of you guys are already cranking with Portal 2, it'd be great if you could start pooling together the resources we need to get everyone up to speed and ready to roll. I think this could be a really exciting one since Portal 2 is still so fresh and the community is just getting rolling on it. Might also be great for drawing some new blood to the Core.

    Hello again!

The Door Challenge submissions are in and it's time to get to the voting! We had excellent turnout this round, with 17 entries for HL2:Ep2, the UDK, Gears of War, and Portal 2.

As with the last vote, you may vote for up to three entries. For this challenge, focus on the creativity and technique used to script the puzzle. You are also encouraged to play the levels (if possible) before viewing the videos. We have a few entries still pending video submissions; look for those to pop up soon.

Here are your submissions - good luck to everyone who entered! Please VOTE CAREFULLY - There are a lot of "Door" names on the list.

That's a wrap! I'll be getting the voting thread together shortly so we have a bit more time than last round; I'm planning on closing the voting Saturday night so you'll have just about a week to review the entries.

There's some killer entries here, btw, well done to all
