Wow, I give my parents a less dumbed-down version of the tech when they visit the office.
I don't get the impression he really wanted to be spending his time on this
(nor do I blame him). Game's looking snazzy, though.

Quote from PolarisGTKRadiant is like a Harley, it doesn't need those fancy extra wheels and whatnot
I'm not talking about extra wheels, I'm talking about wheels that are missing entirely or replaced with something less functional like a refrigerator.
It adds nothing useful except the freelook camera view which, once you're used to the keyboard movement or fly mode, is also a pain ![]()
Quote from FletchYeah, WC 1.6 is just kind of funny. Almost all the hot keys are gone. Buttons are missing. It's like driving your car all day long and then coming outside and finding it has 3 wheels, the steering wheel is a dead cat on a stick, and the engine is a bunch of hampsters in wheels.
you know, that's exactly like going from D3/Q4 Radiant to GTK 1.5, except GTK is like... new.
Quote from ginger_lordFill a swimming pool with coke, drop 20ft wide mentos in it. Run.
That'd be hiroshima-scale, man! ![]()
ack, overlooked this. :X
Well, quite a few of the textures were included with the map pack - we did custom team-colored variations on a number of textures (a lot of the green and orange painted bits were there in the stock textures, so we just reversed that), but most of the textures in the shot you mentioned are in the original game... So yeah, you'd need to get the game anyway to get to them.
Though as far as I know id still frowns on 'their' (because after all, our people painted these
) textures being used in other games, even their own. So your best option might be to try out Q4 if/when you want to use them. ![]()
Not a flat plane - it's just a narrow brush with an alpha on both sides... it's actually two-sided; you can see a little bit of the other side poking through to the left. Might revisit it later, but really it's the least of my worries at the moment. ![]()
Prey's only been going in its current state for a few years, though, and at Human Head, not 3DR. Can't give them credit for Max Payne either ![]()

Q4 SP... early intro area of a little mostly walker-based map pack (3ish maps, most likely). Sort of an Air Defense meets Tremors theme going on...
Everything that wasn't stock content originally is stock content now.
Just patch the game up and you'll be good to go.
Quote from PolarisI heard somewhere (I think on the pipeline or func_msgboard) that Lunaran made the source files for some of his textures available in the past. Do you know if I can still get those? I would like to know how he works and such
Just asked him - he said they're "somewhere" and that he's "gotta get all that stuff online." So yeah. Check back!
Quote from mabufoI buy my own games as well - but the law is in place to more or less protect children. Here in the us if you are under 18 you are a child, a minor - no questions asked. Even if you consider yourself an adult - the government does not. Most stores already don't sell M games to kids under 17 anyway - so they aren't seeing much change if you ask me. I really don't see the problem.
The problem is this law bypasses and ignores the ESRB in favor of their own qualifications for what is considered inappropriate. You'll undoubtedly find T-rated games being restricted as well.
In the grand scheme, just saying "well, these kids shouldn't be buying the games anyway, so it's not a problem" doesn't help things. The biggest issue with all of this isn't that kids can or can't buy M rated games, it's that no other entertainment medium (save for porn) is under anything other than a voluntary ratings system - MPAA ratings, for example. By allowing the government to step in and do the job the retailers are doing already (no better or worse than they are for movies, music, books, and what have you), you're giving them the leverage to not treat games as an equal medium.
Re: Oblivion, they had plenty of M-rated gore content in it already; that game was at best a low M from release, regardless of any hoopla over boobies.
...I'm posting them here because he told me to when I told him to. Set is based off some older Q2 textures with a dash of Q1 computer textures for your brush monkeying enjoyment.

I didn't make a map with them this time, but don't let that stop you. A lot of stuff in this pak will accept a color key if you put it on a func_static, namely all the glowy crap, so don't browse the list in the editor and feel like you're stuck with the presets. More info is in the readme.
oh yeah: There's a new weapon spawnpad .lwo in the pak but KFS says he can't get it to show up in the model browser. It's there, though - models/mapobjects/power/pad.lwo - if you want to place it by force.

My map with them is sadly unfinished thus far
But I'll show some shots here when appropriate ![]()
oh, Fletch, your story introduced discussion of an awesome (like horrifically terrible style) new game after I shared it with a few people at the office.
sadly I don't see it ever seeing the light of day...
Quote from TaylorI've no idea why a single player campaign for a FPS is getting so many 'votes.' Don't get me wrong, OpFor was rad, but hardly the most expanding thing ever.
Op4CTF kicked ass - I ordered a Gearbox shirt just because it had the powerup icons on it.
the powerup mode was pretty cool, too, but came a little late unfortunately. Heard about some other great stuff in the pipe from a couple of the designers, but sadly those things never really got finished.
I really enjoyed Blue Shift for what it was, too. I think what made them so special was just the alternate perspective of identical events, rather than stuff like, say, the Q2 mission packs that is a completely different person, different place, different circumstances. Gearbox did a great job taking a familiar framework and mixing it up just enough to be something really impressive.
Also have to place votes for lord of destruction and winter assault (d2 and dawn of war, respectively). New DoW expansion also looks like it should be really good...
Valve didn't even own it until post-1.6, did they? Still all Ben Morris up to that point. Is that even the right name?
I'm lame - GTK 1.5 is now up and running on my end ![]()
You don't... own... a copy of Quake 2? ![]()
I lost the entire first 6 months of my work except for the first (and most terrible) room I did in one fell swoop... and not just in one map.
Oof.
