This is true. I tend to keep mine close to 1280x720 (on a 1900x1200 res monitor), so not unreasonable to expect some smaller windows on other resolutions.

I'll poke at the stuff later this week to see if I can bring it in a bit. Won't be much, but probably enough to make it comfortable for 1024.

The only minor complaint I have is that on 1024x768, the site borders right up to the edges of the browser and this doesn't look so good. It'd look much nicer if there were at least the same amount of space between the design and the browser edges as there is between the three big images. As it is, it looks quite cramped. This goes for the other page(s) on the site too. Bordering right up against the browser borders is a bit of a no-no.

haha, with all my old site designs people were like, "dude, people use higher than 640x480" and now that I've embraced my higher-resolution overlords it's too wide?????

I can probably pull it in to 980 wide (it's 1000 right now, which would strip 10 pixels off either spacer and put them to each outside edge of the site. Not much, but probably would help 1024 users a bit. I'll look into it. Good news is, if Google Analytics is telling the truth, over 85% of my visits are from higher than 1024x768.

This isn't hooked up for non-direct navigation yet, but have at it and let me know what you think. There's still stuff missing (mostly for the old content shots) and some descriptions in disarray or needing re-writing, but the functionality should all be there.

Meh? good, bad? how's the portfolio vibe? is it too different from the rest of the site? do the text boxes over the images work?

Hoping to launch this this week once I get all the content hooked up (maybe as early as tomorrow night) but I imagine I'll still be tweaking little things for weeks/months/years.

Hey, some nice looking work in here. Characters pull off well in the in-game shots, and the weapons and arms look great too. Doubt you'll have any trouble with the job search, good luck!

no, it's not FMPONE, but it is the same IP another current forum user has had for a few posts.

Unless by some weird coincidence two mapcore posters have ended up being randomly assigned the same IP address, I recommend using the normal username.

Anyone ever wonder what would happen if Carmack, sweeney and the boys at crytek put their heads together and came up with an engine?

it sounds like there's a huge gap between the casual and the competetive player. i dont think that any game should have that, especially not a mmo.

I think any game that has a competitive community latch onto it is going to have that disconnect, regardless of genre. Generally speaking, many of the features that draw a competitive community to a game are counter to features that provide wider accessibility to casual audiences. The Quake series (even Q4 to an extent) remains popular with competitive players thanks to precise and twitchy movement and controls, some intricate trick movement options, and a general perception of being a "skill game" (this debate is always entertaining). Q3, generally the highest pedestal of DM among the hardcore community, was basically a commercial failure, though, as the casual gamer had no interest in any of that. Q4... well, failed for a number of other reasons, but can be considered a similar story.

Natural Selection was just ugly, with a gap that grew into constant bickering and bitter debate between "pubbers" and "clanners" that runs to this day, nearly 5 years post-release. It's cooled greatly since I was last involved with NS, but was a terrible thing to happen to the community.

Which do you pick as a developer? That Blizzard has balanced the two as well as they have is pretty incredible, but the gap remains.

Had id hit their 2003 target, they would have been first to market with it by a good bit - they were certainly the first to show it running real-time in a game.

If you want to get really technical, Secret Service 2 hacked it in before any of those games shipped, but... well...

Yeah, I agree re: the steps... You've got this awesome organic form going on with the house, then obvious brushes as steps. Definitely thinner steps would help, and pulling a few verts could help break things up a bit - might even consider splitting a couple of them for a nice cracked and worn feel.

Might also spend a little more time on the roof - from the second shot, it looks really cool, but up close it looks a little weird around where the left side of the building sticks out.

Really cool vibe overall, though. I like! What's the goal of the battle? DM? SP? general scene-building?

I already started pestering my wife to join me on my quest to finally hit 70 (given that she's got 3-4 70s already, haha)... Stoked to see Arthas show up, and some spiffy sounding stuff in the pipe. Inscription sounds really cool.

If you look past the fact that their sales have gone steadily down over time and that they are developing Rage without a publisher...

You can look at that as a few options a) Activision getting frustrated and dumping id, b) id getting frustrated and dumping Activision, or c) Todd H trying to sweeten the deal for an eventual signing with ATVI.

I'd be happy to share my own personal theory at work tomorrow, but I won't throw any of that speculation on the internets.
