Gonna be a hot building. I hate how bf2 textures stuff though. I dont like the system one bit. I understand where the strengths could come from, but too me it seems extraneous. Good luck and show us the final result.

My hopes were that people who vote on the poll are people who have actually tested the map. I know that will end up not being the case however, which is disappointing. I also hope that anyone who votes posts a reply and rates the maps and gives honest critique and defend why he voted for the map he voted for.

Sadly we do not have a system in place for good judging. Hopefully that'll be handled for any upcoming contests. I opened up a thread for everyone to discuss themes and ways of judging in the WIP level forum. I hope that can ease people's disagreements.

If you have an opinion support it. For instance, if you dont want custom content, why dont you want custom content? A simple "no custom content" is a poor argument and could be easily ignored. Just my 12 cents.

You may place your suggestions on future contests and how we run them pre and post contest here.

The purpose of this thread is not to get your hopes up but to get a sample of the feelings you guys have about contests. With this information moderators might be able to create more popular contests like the 1024 one we had. Please only comment if you're in fact willing to enter the contest.

Zete/Zeke: You didn't add your name to the title of your map in the format I stated so I put your name on the poll and the front page to the best of my rememberence.

PS_Mouse: My User Error: Correction, I did it right. Something on the forums is messing it up and adding it twice. I dont know what the issue is. I'll bug mojo.

Those bookshelves would've lost books if they had been moved like that. Books on the floor, or lose the books completely.

Interesting. The player space is kinda sparse. The Slanted roof on the 1st floor is a unique architectural element, but comes off wrong. The sky light above seems to be more modern with a more rustic interior and its clashing. maybe if it were wood trim with a little metal around the glass.

Personally I think people who take their time out to at least give the maps a try on the given server they're set on should be judges as is. Ferret, your suggestion is quite elitist. I also believe that gameplay is the same in a given map whether or you are a skilled mapper or a newbie at it. As a mapper, your job is to "sell" your work because it looks good, and is enjoyable to play. Having people judging the contest who are "above" playing it or higher in the industry proves nothing. In the end, this contest wasn't made for the people producing games/mods/etc., it was made for the public, of whom the majority knows nothing about modding.

    My 2 cents

My opinion was to open the polls to anyone who has played the maps. If you've played the maps then you get to vote. This would be honor based. However if we were going to have judges, the judges would indeed be people who have been in the community and contributed work that shows that they understand their field.

A mappers job is to make it enjoyable THEN make it look good. No where did I say that if we go the route of instated judges that they must be professional. I do however suggest they have experience so they understand the mechanics of level design. That, is a valuable judging skill.

The contest was made in a public level design forum by and for level designers. Public may play it yes, but the people who are judging the maps are designers at heart. I'd hope that at least 90% of the people at mapcore know something about modding.

On a side note, there are 16 entries which seem to be too large for the forum polls. I'm asking mojo to look into it but he's a working man. Bear with us.

Rick D I think that you have the best intentions of seeing that each level is graded on multiple categories. Thats great. But as it is right now there is no way for us to easily vote for each map. Further there is no list of judges who are responsible for judging. Each judge should honestly be from the community who has been here over an extended period of time, contributed to the forum in some way, and has routinely produced work that makes him worthy of judging others work. The moderators are currently discussing ideas for how to run contests as well as how to judge them, vote for them, ect. When the new version of the forum is released it'll make life easier for everyone involved.

That being said I think it'll be easier for all parties involved to just do a normal thread poll to vote a community decided winner. There will not be any prizes. Strongly suggest people use their opinions of layout and gameplay to sway their votes and be done with it. Its now almost two weeks this contest has been concluded.

    Thats my opinion~!

ps. mike it actually might be nice if mapcore can host the eventual map pack as its associated with the forums. I doubt it would take THAT much bandwidth but it would help consolidate the hard work the forum members have contributed. Thoughts?
