HL1 is based on the quake 1 engine. It has some bits taken from quake 2.

As for your mod, there is no point whatsoever to work on HL1. Your so called improved gameplay or physics will in no way match source's capabilities. You don't have that much freedom over HL1.

Second, your posts so far indicate that you are inexperienced with modding meaning that people won't take you very seriously.

Third, the media is quite unimpressive and newbish.

    (Spoilers)

Where is that hydra thing? Where are my beloved bullsquids and zee itchiosaur? Where did all the new aliens go that were seen in the concept art?

The striders weren't as cool as in the trailer as they didn't do much other than hang around and shoot.

Judging from all the content I've seen so far: no. Source remains blocky. Just look at the blocky unrealistic cliffs in HL2 and CS:S.

So much to learn. How about placing some nulled world brushes inside the terrain in order to vis block it? Is null still in use?

I know the new format is vmf but you can also choose rmf from the open menu so there should be a way to port old work as promised. I guess hammer is somewhat buggy in its current state.

How does the light_dynamic work? What's the resizable sphere for?

How do you open an rmf in the new hammer? What settings do I need to take into consideration? Currently, Hammer crashes when I try to open an rmf.

Where is the surface editor for making terrain? How exactly is terrain created?

I still think the colors look too washed out. It makes it look flat no matter how detailed or how complex the brushwork is. Red is red, not sandy brown with a hint of red and so on.

There should be more white wall surfaces in contrast to the sandy brown.

Also the buildings in the third pic don't really fit in as the architectural style is different. The structure looks more like a castle with the peaky towers.

    No problem

I found it on the same site as the one ya posted.

Now let us pray for Bush, God's 2nd son right after Jesus.

    Quote

Notwithstanding the advice, the President’s foreign policy revealed a flair for saber rattling. He warned the world that “nations are either with us or they’re against us!” His speeches, often containing allusions to biblical passages, were spoken with the certainty of a man who holds the authority of God’s wrath on earth, for he not only challenged the evil nations of the world, singling out Iraq, Syria, Iran, and North Korea as the “axis of evil,” but he wielded the sword of punishment and the sword of revenge against his own people: the American poor and the middle class who according to the religious right have earned God’s wrath by their licentiousness and undisciplined lives.

To the middle class he said, “I’m going to give you clear skies clean air and clean water,” then he gutted the environmental controls that were designed to provide clean air and water. The estimated number of premature deaths that will result: 100,000.[5] He said to the poor and to the middle class: “I’m going to give you a prescription drug program, one that you truly deserve.” Then he gave the drug industry an estimated $139 billion dollars in increased profits from the Medicare funds and arranged for the poorest of seniors to be eliminated from coverage, while most elderly will pay more for drugs than they paid before his drug benefit bill passed.[6] After that he arranged for the dismantling of the Medicare program entirely, based on the method outlined by his religious mentors.[7] He said to the people of America, “I’m going to build a future for you and your children,” then he gutted their future with tax breaks to the rich and a pre-emptive war against Iraq, and the largest spending deficit in history.[8]

I just can't stop laughing at that picture! It's hilarious!

Even though it's curvy, it looks extremely simple and repetitive. The brushwork could be more varied and detailed.
