  • 99 achievements in Orange Box

The achievements are a great idea really, the completists know for sure if they have 100% a game, people can set little goals for themselves, share their game score for obvious e-penis points, and it encourages games to make a lot little things that give positive feedback in the game.

Of course, it also encourages some games to put batshit achievements in them that you couldn’t do with an offical guide or an unofficial guide on GameFAQ’s lifted straight from an official guide (hello Blue Dragon!).

Nintendogs was a launch title for the DS, wasn't it? Which has done stupidly well in Japan.

But that list looks extremely wrong, where are the sports games? Why is this on a website about guns?

Football is awesome, soccer EDIT: is boring . I think the reason why Europeans don't like football is because

they have no idea about the rules, they just see it as big

guys smashing against eachother again and again.

I doubt that's the case, in Europe we have this sport called Rugby, it's like American football only you stop the game less and aren't padded up like complete pansies.

It's not suprising people think of so-called soccer when people say football. Nobody else plays American football and it has very little foot to ball action in it.

Though both bore me to tears.

I have a 30gb iPod video and I want more space... certainly wouldn't want less space for more features. I'd still only use it for music/transfer.

    Or buy it on 360.

Christ, everything about their anti-piracy system just encourages people to pirate it to dodge their stupid bullshit.

I was working in a biggest game industry company in Poland and they payed me 360 euro per month. It's about 4300 euro per year... Slick wrote that LD is earning pounds 30 000 per year? It's 10 000 euro - now you can compare with my earnings...

A lot of people there (in that company) was caddish... Now you know why I leaved that job...

It's all relative though, exchange rate doesn't say everything. The UK is much more expensive. But 30,000 is way out, you're looking at more like 20,000, generally unpaid overtime and a contract that says you'll work more hours than is legally allowed otherwise (though hopefully a healthy bonus because of those last two).

I donno, Heavenly Sword seems decent enough. Gameplay is very much God of War, which isn't a bad thing at all. Also the cutscenes are just drop dead gorgeous. Plus the reviews for Heavenly Sword have been pretty good so far. Not a 9/10 title, but 7s and 8s are also good

I’ll certainly buy Heavenly Sword, but I think it’s more to do with justifying my PS3 than anything else. I personally dislike the newer approaches to combat systems that not only allow, but encourage, you mashing the joy pad like a ham-fisted oaf to launch tens of different combinations that all do exactly the same thing.

    Blue Dragon is great.

But it doesn't surprise me the American reviews it gets are bad. Blue Dragon is a great JRPG, and many people can't appreciate those kind of games. Mainly because they're not used to them. Which is why its doing excellent in Japan even though the 360 sales aren't everything they should be over there. JRPG's almost a genre on their own really.

The demo doesn't do it justice though.

Your post reads as if JRPG’s were some cult genre. JRPGS are a separate genre, have been around since the NES, and America gets more of them than Europe.

The 360 doing badly in Japan is the reason Blue Dragon was made, so it’s unsurprising it’s doing well there. They brought together three massive JRPG names to create Blue Dragon to try and woo them over. Unfortunately it’s FFV’s class system through a series of clichés with annoying characters. It should have been something spectacular.

Edit: I've just thought, basically my problem on both is they're too casual and for people who don't revel in these things. So I'll just shut up and wait for Disgaea 3.

Well, I’ve moved from the West Midlands to Sussex, I don’t really know many people here and have trouble meeting people so that’s certainly a down point, but I’m not living like a hermit and I knew this when I got The Job. I don’t actively disclose where I work on the big census thread because our publisher is wary of such things, and this account has seen me through my angst fuelled e-thug years, but we’ve just announced the project, though little media so far, and I’m just going to worry about that for now.

  • I'm pretty much done with any modern PC games...

PC Gaming has always been a bit of an oxymoron, but it's in a real slump right now. There's so few genres it actually does right, and they are all getting longer development times and designed for consoles anyway (opposed to the previous after-thought ports). My PC is pretty up to date but I've only really used it for Touhou and game dev, and you don't need an up to date PC for Touhou.
