We played it for a bit at work, and people have been playing it at home. From what we've surmised this 100% BEST GAME MADE AND WILL EVER BE MADE is a little off the mark.

I just hope they will get rid of the sudden death, that thing is completely retarded, the gamedesigner who had that idea should be hung up on the public place. How much times did i witnessed the evil dance of 3 engi's per team camping in their basement sticked to their dispensers waiting for the enemy to come in to be slaughtered against theirs sgs ://///

I think Sudden Death is really cool. The problem seems to be more that both linear territory control maps (Well, Granary) will invariably end in a stalemate right now. Ideally you should rarely see Sudden Death, that’s what makes the whole “we changed the rules!” thing so neat.

I think the problem stems from the spawn points simply not moving up as much as they should, allowing the losing team to immediately claw back and deadlocking the centre. If you played maps like Warpath you’ll know that once a team takes a node they practically spawn on top of it, if anything it gives the winning team even more of an advantage. Maybe unfair, but most games ended with a winner.

Played it and I'm not to impressed. The style is great, don't get me wrong, but the gameplay is just boring.

Hmm sorry I thought you said it was highly unlikely to get a spy behind a heavy and kill him.

No problem. I should aplogise for the dickish tone of my response, I had to go and didn't read it back first

Anyhoo! It's probably all fine and I should just learn to kill them and stop complaining. I usually play Engineer but I've definately had the most fun so far as a Solider. Got 8 kills straight assaulting a control point with a Medic buddy, and was making very excited sounds at the PC before I forced myself to stop.

I think the heavy's are very easy to take down. Either the sniper or the spy can easily take them down in 1 shot. not to mention they are the biggest target.

On Attack/Defend maps the chance of you getting a Spy behind a Heavy or a Sniper to land a charged shot before the damage is already done is highly unlikely. They're also the most likely to be healed and charged with invincibility. And while it's possible to prance around as a scout to great effect, at least that takes more than holding MOUSE1 and pointing vaguely in the direction of the enemy.

I think he Pyro feels weak because he is essentially designed to be a short range version of the Heavy, but the Heavy is effective at all distances anyway so he doesn't need some slightly faster, short ranged bastard child.

But like I said this is all knee-jerk and just comparing it to the Heavy of TFC. We'll see.

I really, really like this. I haven’t felt this about a game in a long time. So many things have caused me just to coo and giggle at the monitor - especially the (supposedly) little things like the kill shots, statistics, voices and nemesis system. It’s bares only a marginal semblance to TFC, but I’m going to state boldly after a mere 3 hours play that this seems better and I hope Portal fills the “I must jump about like a fool” void.

My knee-jerk reaction is that the Heavy is overpowered though, it cuts through the Soldiers of TF2 faster than the Scouts of TFC and everyone knows what a great synergy they have with Medics.

That's what the Sudden Death thing is about. Winner gets lowered respawntimers, iirc. But SD usually end up as stalemate anyways, since some shmuck camps to days end.

Just had a hilarious sudden death where an enemy solider and I took each other out by both firing rockets and jumping into the other persons.

Yeah, just ignore me. I'm sure all these people buying it will be happy with their purchase, I'm a bad man. It seems almost like some kind of “in my day” rant, but even more stupid as it’s coming from someone that would be targeted by anyone skilled at them. Possibly with the word ‘whippersnapper’ in there somewhere.

You can try to be innovative, original, try a unique style, tell a compelling story and all the rest of it. But ultimately the people you want to buy your games will still proclaim a generic shooter with enough marketing muscle to move a planet behind it to be the gaming messiah.

I’m not trying to say it’s a bad game or particularly unfun, I'm sure it will be great. But all this hype is unbelieveable, nothing deserves this - especially not Halo. I see terms like 'Halo clones' and I simply don't understand - did Halo travel back in time to invent the power suit, Geiger’s aliens, Ringworld and the whole idea of a Sci-Fi FPS or something? If so I'm not surprised I missed it, but there seems to be a fatal flaw as I still understand it existed afterwards. Am I about to be visited by serious men in big expensive suits?

The day it launches and gets 3 million sales (or thereabouts) in its first hour of release I’m going to be in a corner, with my mind in my happy place, blood running down my chin as I bite down on my tongue to stop the screaming. This may be somewhat hyperbolic.

Edit: Post now makes slightly more sense, while still containing a healthy chunk of ignorance.

CAD goes beyond unfunny into some kind of fucking anti-funny that sucks the funny out of your very being.

The only reason you should ever read CAD is to completely void yourself of humour before reading something actually amusing to amplify its effect.

I don't visit the site often but the good ones go up on the newgroups at work and I've found it amusing. Certainly more amusing than the likes of Ctrl-Alt-Delete who are about as funny as a kick square in the testicles with a steel-toecapped boot.

I'm not saying this is true to everyone, or that they don't also serve the primary purpose of demos, but these betas can still be used as an actual testing period. It just means any substantial issues are going to end up in the patch you download 2 days after release. It's pretty common for massively multiplayer games go gold before the thing is close to being finished and then you downloading the rest of the game a few days later.

Yeah, lamery. I mean I personally don't get off on the whole brutal, graphic killing thing, but if movies like this (this was shown in the UK and also contains a one-shot 10-minute rape scene, but not in this video; it takes about a minute for the violence to kick in) can get away with it then games clearly should.

Well, generally the argument is that violent video games have the added element of being interactive. Of course we know that these fatalities are essentially movies within the game, the people complaining about Manhunt 2 and its predecessor were of course painted a vivid picture that we’re manually torturing innocent people in some kind of murder simulator.

I was trying to find a link to the torture scene in Ichi the Killer (well, one of them - the guy suspended in air) but YouTube has put 18 ratings on all those so you need an account. I find it funny that Irreversible one hasn't been tagged the same.
