I think Blizzard would be fine with that to be honest.

Quote from Cybbe
Gerstmann was famous for actually being a good, unbiased reviewer, handing out fair grades for everything - successfully pointing out flaws and strokes of genious in mechanics of games and hardware alike. Not being afraid of the fanboys, he valiantly assumed the role of being the one honest person you could actually trust to make a review that was at least in-depth, well-thought, and had viable arguments pro and contra.
Right, which is why he gave THPS3 a perfect 10 in every single category, I notice that wasn't mentioned in the fix, though taking 'fanboy' out of context (of needless controversy) is better material.
QuoteI fear that the example set will only serve to further cave in reviewers to give amazing scores to shitty games in fear of losing their job.
Online review sites have always been at the beg and call of their advertisers - IGN have been pretty notorious for it. It’s just until this point here has been no (known) incidents where one has done anything so heavy handed about it. Like I said (though I skimmed over it as other posts have covered it), I feel sorry for the guy, it’s horrible this happened, a terrible realisation of how these sites are run and in no way do I think this is a 'good thing.' But please don't pretend his dubious reviews are suddenly him standing against the tide and saying how it really is.

I can do that too Nexus, and I predict I’ll be wearing your skin as a casual jacket.

Gerstmann was infamous for being a bad reviewer, handing out a perfect ten for THPS3, sub-par scores to Twilight Princess, and having fanboys foaming at the mouths. I’m not in anyway trying to suggest what happened to him wasn’t horrible or was, in some way, overdue - but he was one figure at Gamespot known for creating unneeded controversy, and I imagine this was the angle taken when Eidos loomed over him like a softly spoken mob-boss that was oh so very disappointed.

I'm one of those annoying people who will listen to anything, though metal (with the \m/ and everything) would be the main genre. But to save you all time scrolling past a giant post that makes me look cultured/edgy, I'll stick to the progressive/post stuff I listen to at work, which is 90% of my music listening time.

That page spits out 20 MySQL errors, but it’s probably for the best. Online review sites are hardly the most reliable of sources (I’ve never read a single review on IGN after they gave God Hand 3/10). I flicked down the reviews at metacritic and a lot of people are ragging on the game, and series, for having cumbersome combat – despite that being intended in all survival horror games so you don’t go around blasting the shit out of everything with poise.
I’ve got a PSP and it does look really good (I had no idea it was a PSP game when I originally saw it), but I have yet to buy it. I emulated Silent Hill 1 on it before and it was just so hard to get into it while travelling, which is kind of the point. I imagine I’ll pick it up at some point, though.

If you just read the letters with stars on them in the Super Mario Galaxy logo, it says "U R Mr. Gay." I don't own a Wii so I can't add anything more insightful than that I'm afraid.

The Double Fine FAQ Page has a little ditty on this.
Quote from Tim SchaferYou should hang on to that idea until you’re ready to make it yourself. Because if you send it to us, our lawyers will jump on it like a hand grenade and not ever let us see it, for reasons only they understand. I’m sure your idea is great, though, and you should really try to make it some day. So stop showing it to people or else it’s going to get ripped off (by someone far less scrupulous than us).
As I understand it even if a company does like an idea it's sent, it wouldn't be able to create it due to all kind of problems with copyright anyway. If you want an idea to become an actual game, I don't think sending it a company, no matter what your credentials, will have a result.
There’s plenty of scope for designers, though it’s an esteemed position. But writing is certainly an avenue you can pursue to that goal.

Are you expecting one? Hydeph out-dickheaded me by a mile.

Sigh. I accept the burn, I realise my original response would look overly trollish to people who don’t know D3adlode and I are basically virtual fuck buddies.
I know people still map for Half-Life. I’m well aware people still map for Doom and Quake, and I think it’s very impressive what crops up for those engines by enthusiasts. But I still think engine is relevant here, what D3adlode is trying to do is horror, specifically survival horror - this is a genre that is 90% presentation and almost relishes in bad gameplay mechanics*.
If you’re going to do a project where presentation is, essentially, the biggest part of the game, then I think the most logical thing you can do is take big steps in that direction. Like having an engine where your flashlight isn’t going to be a vertex light. Is it really such a giant taboo to point this out?
Ever play the original Resident Evil after it had aged? Especially after the GameCube remake? I loved that game, but going back it was so feeble. The greats of Half-Life horror like Afraid of Monsters and They Hunger lack immersion now because the engine is washed out. Ever play Code Veronica? Okay, that had other problems, but looking like a PSX game didn’t help.
Look at the reference from Silent Hill 3, the most effecient way to make something resembling that is developing on a newer engine, isn't it? And has a larger playerbase, and develops more relevant skills...
It's okay, I had reeses for breakfast.
* Ex: combat is clumsy and awkward so you don’t actually try and kill things. Silent Hill in particular has all the grace of a Thrust spaceship piloting through a bowl of treacle with a nailed plank strapped to it

The room looks a bit too tall. But other than that my only comments are the engine is shit, your tools are shit and nobody plays HL anymore.

Heh, pretty clever. Though it wears a bit thin after a while.
My favourite stand up at the moment is probably Dara O'Briain.

If I was going to make something up, it’d be a bit more impressive than that. Maybe they could’ve thrown flash bangs through the window and riddled a mannequin full of bullets (which my friend animates using voodoo magic). The GF just panicked, told the police and where they were. Phone wasn’t answered, so they sent some people to check it out. They'd already contacted the club they were at and verified it was probably BS - they didn't burst through the windows or anything.
Track the phone? I can't remember saying they were somewhere wierd, in fact "his house" was used in the description. Though they were actually at a club when the message was sent.
Edit: Actually, I'm pretty sure he's a goon. So I imagine it'd be posted on GB if you've an account.

Not fake at all.

I know somebody who was out with a friend, his friend recieved got a text message from his girlfriend and allowed him to text back whatever he wanted, and made a big deal of not looking what was sent. The reply was “cant talk now, in a hostage situation,” which was funny until the armed police showed up at his house at 5 in the morning.

From what I hear the experience of Crysis is so magical and amazing it’s comparable to a unicorn pissing a rainbow into a pot of gold. However, until I upgrade my computer I’m trying my hardest to avoid it because one game isn’t worth that kind of money.
And I’m not going to appreciate any kind of irony when I now tell D3adlode to stop convincing himself Half-Life 2 is rubbish, and just upgrade to play it properly.
Though to be honest, I don’t like the way the FPS genre is going. The parts of an FPS I like are the ones that make up the acronym. Less emphasis on vehicles, plots, squads, physics and your open, believable, living-breathing worlds – and more emphasis on me running around in the open, circle strafing monsters and blowing their faces off with a shotgun.
Quote from clayman10/10 in the swedish magasine GameReactor.. How this be possible? =)
Well, Halo 3 had fourteen 100% reviews last I checked.

Navigation is poor because this is the most bloated website ever. Why are there entire sections devoted to 360, PS3, Wii, PSP and DS when there’s going to be sod all content for them? Why is it graphic heavy and why are they so much bigger than they need to be? Streamline guys! Web 2.0!

Don’t ask about my motherboard and what my favourite game is. I don’t know the answers to these questions!
